I received the same check and letter as Jeff Stubblefield reported receiving (but from EDGE MARKETING COMPANY instead) which stated I had been "selected as the lucky winner of the $9700.00 cash prize" along with "my first check" in the amount of $996.88. The letter then instructed me to "contact Jessica Marks at 289-892-4745" for further details regarding my prize. It also stated that the enclosed check had "NOT BEEN ACTIVATED" and that the funds would not be made available to me UNTIL I CALLED THEM to confirm I had received it. However, I made several attempts to reach this number (long distance, out-of-the-country phone calls) but was unsuccessful.
I was still skeptical (but also secretly optomistic) so after I carefully scrutinized the letter (which had several minor items that didn't seem quite right to me, but weren't enough to entirely discredit the letter either) as well as the check itself (which I have to say was done so well that it just about had me fooled into believing it WAS actually a REAL check and a VALID OFFER), I brought it in to my bank and after some research and a phone call to the bank on the check, they determined that it WAS NOT VALID.
