Received a call from that number today. I use BOA Merchant Services and it is First Data, just a courtesy call from Customer Service to see if everything is okay and if I had any issues and was I happy with the service. It was legit.

They left a message for me. I use square to accept cc payments for my business. My bank gave this company my info to propose that I use their company instead of square. He gave the real name of my account manager at my bank, so seemed legit. caller id said Hagerstown , MD

Don't pickup and don't call them back. This is scam call,
Company keep calling from different numbers, and claiming that they mistakenly transferred money to merchant account so please call us back,,,, No company name, don't even know our names, just blind shot. don't be Stupid to call them .back , since they don't know name yet, pretending like they are merchant company.
When they record message, they didn't record company name (Red Flag)
They didn't know my name (Red Flag)
a generic message reocreded so business ppl think they are related with business and home ppl thinks its from some bank and they panic to call them back.
don't be stupid. make policy . if you don't know the number who is calling you just don't picup.

This number is for First Data merchant services, a credit card processing company. In my case it was a return call from their research dept.

So, I received a call from this number from a guy claiming to be with Associated (the bank I had deposits from my merchant processing). He confirmed my Routing and Act. numbers from the old bank. I called First Data back to confirm that the call was from someone on their end: it was. The man was calling the number on file for my business (my office number) to confirm that the actual business owner made the switch and not some fraudulent attempt to change the account information. I am actually happy to have First Data take that extra step to ensure everything is copacetic, in case someone else happens to try and switch accounts without my prior knowledge.

They are from First Data credit card processing services. We recently signed up to use First Data as our credit card processor and they called to tell us our merchant ID and that our POS terminal was ready for shipment.

First Data Merchant services number. Not a scam
Andy 2012-09-20 23:57:55 Unknown
It says Merchant Services when they call. They claim to be from Well's Fargo. Its a total scam. Dont pick up.
PJF 2012-09-14 02:41:05 Unknown
Did not answer but judging from other responses, it sounds like a scam. I am NOT a merchant, and I do not have a bank account with any of those banks. They called my cell phone.

Correction, it is First Data. My apologies, I entered the wrong number in the look-up and so posted the wrong info to this number instead of the number I should have entered.
Advice still applies regarding giving out info to callers.
If there is a moderator, please delete the previous erroneous post and this one. thnx.
Sorry to all for confusion.

American Express, the collection agency used by American Express. This agency has numerous numbers available to them that they can call from, and part of their usual tactics include calling all of your phone numbers they have on file and then hanging up, this usually several times a day, from different numbers. Don't give your cc any more of your phone numbers. Don't call your cc from any other phones except what they already have on file.
If you don't have AmEx or are not behind in AmEx payments, maybe you are behind in payments with some other cc or banking company that also uses this collection agency.
Ah, don't trust the caller ID name, they know how to "spoof" the name that shows and commonly do it.
If they stay on the line, it's usually to get you to call AmEx (or whatever) for collection. Don't call the number they give you, never trust a calling person to give you the numbers for account problems or resolutions, instead look up AmEx number (it's on the card) and call them...
Point is, you never know if it's just a nasty old collection agency, or a *hacker* trying to get personal info. NEVER discuss account issues with people who call you. If you need to discuss account issues, YOU should instead be the one calling, using the phone number your cc company provides in your invoices or on your card as the number to call.
Be safe! And good luck to ya.

This is First Data Merchant Services.I searched the phone# online and found this page before I spoke to them because was suspicious at first. It sounded like it could be a telemarketer, but they were calling to confirm a change had been made to our credit card processing system that we had requested just a few days prior. Telemarketers would not have known any of this information. The rep was just letting us know the change was completed and asking if we had any additional questions. She also asked if everything else was running smoothly. First Date works with many banks and institutions so they could be calling on behalf of other financial processors. It's a legit number.

It's a merchant services number. Pretty much if you have a business and opened up a merchant account through your bank this is one of the companies that you deal with. All transactions through your business merchant account is processed through them and sometimes they will call and very information. Hope this helps.

Have been getting calls from 301 766-5000 repeatedly for several days. When I answer no one is there.
Very frustrating and annoying. This amounts to harassment.

Have received so many calls during the past month, daily and sometimes 4-5 times a day. My caller ID says Hagerstown MD and I never pick up. Just sick & tired of this nonsense.
Skeetervision 2011-11-08 23:53:07 Unknown
Yes they are shady, and don't disclose all the fees! You have to pry the fees out of them.

I have a business merchant account with B of A. They use First Data Global Gateway to process their merchant transactions (or at least some of their merchant uses). First Data Global also has the "virtual terminal" that I use instead of swiping cards.
I'm reasonably sure that, as an outside processor, they contract with several banks, credit unions, etc, for merchant processing. I've been very happy with their service, and they do occasionally call to make sure that everything is running smooth, and I'm not having any problems.
However, if you don't have a business or merchant account I see no reason why they would be contacting you.

Just got a call from this number about a merchant services account with Wells Fargo which I don't have & that the changes they needed to make would cost $65.00. Not even sure how they got my cell number other than I used to bank at Wachovia... Tried calling back & am told this is a credit card processor for Wells Fargo.

Received two calls from this number today, Sept 7, 2011 BEFORE 9am. No message left. I recently changed account info at Wells Fargo, and they're one of the only groups that has my US number, as I live abroad. Very, very disappointed.
