Same issue as everyone else.  I told the guy if you are the irs then you already have all my information even my new banking information, so why do i need to give it to you.....Yea, I told Steele Davis with the accent, Ill call him back with the information....Yea right!

Got a call from this number at 0500 PST, at the end of my work day. Didn't answer, they left a voicemail telling me the IRS owed me money or some other lie. Won't be calling back, will be getting another checking account.

Just got an automated call (female voice, similar to the one on IRS automated messages) from 301-887-3758 claiming to be the "Office of Internal Revenue Service" informing me that I had "an additional tax refund" of $2173 (spoken as "dollars two thousand one hundred seventy three") coming to me. Odd, that "additional" refund, since I have yet to complete my taxes this year.

"As a measure of security," the message stated, "we require you to call our our Department of Verification" at the given number to have my "credentials verified," after which my account would be credited.

I didn't call. It was so obviously a scam from the get-go. So many red flags, so transparently fraudulent.

Very interesting(!)  that poster "Jeannine" mentions a "... man with a foreign accent maybe from india..." whom she spoke to after calling the number. It's interesting because I have for months and months been getting harassed by a scammer bill collector (I'm not the person they keep calling for) who has a heavy Indian accent (and who, I've read elsewhere on threads similar to this one, seems to have the bank account and social security numbers of quite a few victims). Actually, that the call  was part of the same criminal operation as the ongoing harassment I'm receiving was the first thing that crossed my mind after I heard the message.

Good job, Teri! Let's report these criminals and shut them down! I too urge everybody to report these fraudsters.

IRS called me regarding my bank account number and them verifying my info and had all my info please tell me whats this about

Sounded too good to be true.  Whenever I receive a call with information of good news, or the famous please hold the line for the next available,  I put the number directly into my google search and find all of these responses.  For something this serious of a scam,  I will not only not be calling them back.  But will also pass this information on to the local authorities and my bank fraud division... would love to see this scammers get there just dues.

I also recieved two phone calls stating i was owed 2173 back from the irs.. when i called the number back a man answered with a forgein accent maybe from india, not sure, anyway he was not american or was he from the irs. when i asked who he was he said from the Irs. and When i said since when is the irs located in maryland..  he then hung up on me. This obviously is a scam!! beware!!

I received the call too.  Did not call them back.  I reported this to the FTC who will be investigating it with the IRS and attorneys.  Not sure if they'll get to it in time before gullible people start giving away their information and money to these creeps.  The government is so slow on acting on anything and it will probably sit in a pile until next tax year!!  But I'm still hoping.  

The FTC said they  need to get a number of complaints before they'll do something.  You can file a complaint with the FTC on line and give them the telephone number 1-800-887-3758 and give them the details of your complaint.  Takes about 5 minutes.  

I urge those who receive this type call from this number to report it so we can stop these thieves.

Received the same call. I called them back and simply said, "Do you think I am stupid?" and they hung up on me. ha ha. People are so ridiculous,.

I received this same call-claiming I had made errors and they owe me over $2000. But in order to get the money I had to pay $171. Really? If the IRS owed me money, they would take it first and then release the rest. This man with an accent had my birthdate, banking information and address. I asked him for his address and he gave Pennsylvania Ave in Washington DC. Needless to say, the call was from Maryland. BIG SCAM!!! How they have all my information is very scary and now I will be forced to change accounts.

just received a call from this number yesterday called back they new who i was they called me by my fullname  telling me that story about iwas owed 2,173 dollars from the irs. it was to good to b true i told them i was going to call my local office to find out was it true.i tried to call them back they kept hanging the phone up in my face when i asked for their address i told them it was fraud and illegal to b having people personal information.the number was1301-887-3758 located in edmonston,md.

Yeah the same thing happend to me i asked them if they were really  the IRS they insisted that they were and even gave me the address located in DC! Im glad I read the post before I just gave away $190. It is really weird that they have your telephone number and you SSN. Beware of this total SCAM.

I too received a cal from this number. Thy left a message, claiming t be the IRS, saying that they owed me $2,173 and I needed to return a call to them so that they cold verify some information before themoney could be released into my account. People be careful of these SCAMMERS. This is so that they could get your personald Banking information

I also got a call from this number stating that I would receive an additional $2179 coming to me.  I called the number and there was no answer - just a beep like for an answering machine.  I did not call back - I assumed that it was a scam.

Big time scam. When I called the number back the "IRS" representative told me that I had made errors on my past returns over the last 5 years and so I would be receiving an additional $2173 refund within 2 days. He tried to get me to give him a bank routing and account number to deposit the money to. When I refused he said he could mail the check BUT first I had to pay a penalty of $190 for making errors. He asked me to load the $190 fee on a Greendot Moneypak and then he could release the funds. I told him I don't know how to do that and he told me to go to Kmart or CVS and they would help me figure it out and call him back tomorrow. I said OK and he just hung up. LOL. SCAM - they also called from 2028007738. The scary part is he did have the last 4 digits of my SSN and my complete home address. Beware!

got a message left on voicemail to call this number because i was due a refund from the government.  The prerecorded message stated they were the internal revenue service.  When i returned the call, the man did give an employee id number, stated his name was John Hudson (which i thought was odd because his accent was ...not from this country).  Anyway so this man knew my name, asked for the last 4 of my ssn, and he had all of my banking information....FULL account number!  of course he told me i was due a refund of 2173 because of past mistakes the irs had made on my taxes.Then he told me i would have to pay 180 4 penalties...if its my money y should i pay? he told me i needed to go to cvs and buy a green dot money card or something like that and to call him when i was there and he would give me instructions.  Needless to say, i did not do this.  I immediately called the real irs, explained what had happened.  I was then told to call the FTC and make a report..which i did.  i also closed my current checking account and I would really love to know how this guy got ALL of my personal information.

Received a call from this number. The representative asked my name. I told them they should have it based on my phone number since they called me. He then told me my name and asked for the last 4 digits of my SS#. I said "Oh no,I am going to report this number because I looked up this number online and know this is a scam and you're gonna ask me for money to deposit money in my account." He replied who told you that Obama.  When I said ok wise guy he just hung up. I know we are all having hard times butDON'T FALL FOR THIS SCAM.

I received a call from them saying that the IRS owed me $2,179 and that I had to pay $180 be cause it my error, im sorry but I feel that if the IRS made a mistake they would call and would not charge you anything, its a SCAM BIG TIME!!!!!!!! I just don't believe them.........

I recieved a call claiming to be the IRS wanting to give me over 2,000 as well, I only had to pay them $200 due to the error I caused and $180 to deposit the money into my account (which they did have my bank correct) and I could send them cash via western union I just needed to call them when I got to western union and follow their instructions.....sounds fishy to me!!!!

As did I...they only wanted to give me $73 extra but still. I'm quite perplexed.
