They have various names associated with the same and similar numbers:  Value Village, Apogee Retail and say they are w/ NCC.  Of course that is only when you get someone who feels like finishing their telemarketing.  Apogee is a retail thrift store, so now I am hesitant to leave a donation.  Thought it was legit via NCC, probably not.  They do constantly call and NEVER leave messages

The National Children's Center apparently changed their number to 301-422-1212, and now they answer the phone. However, I'd like to warn people about my experience with this organization. They arranged a pick-up date, and we put a huge amount of stuff out for them, and they never showed up. When we called to ask what happened, they said they would come two days later. They never did. When we called again to ask what happened, they said they would investigate and call back. They never did. When we called again to ask what happened, we were told that nothing would be done. Beware of dealing with this unreliable organization.

Telemarketer
A just received a phone call from a "private number" , since my number is on the national do not call registry I decided to play stupid and pretend to only  speak spanish then someone on the other end said they were calling from National Children Center, so I said in spanish that i did not speak english, and the person turn aggressive and asked my legal status and then she said she was going to put me on a list;  I continued to play stupid and said: "SI" so she kept being really nasty and ask, so why don't speak english?, and I said in spanish that it was non of her business and she comes back and asks that if I think it was not important to speak english in America.  Then I decided to speak english and told her that she is not suppouse to be calling me, that I am in the do not call registry and that I did not feel like speaking with telemarketers and hanged up.  I am so upset! My parents and myself are legally here and just because she thoght I did not speak english she assumed that I am illegaly here! my parents have not been able to learn and that does not make them illegal. I can't believe these people are from NCC!!!!!!!

Why do Mr. Billye D. Smith (301 890-3364), of 3562 Childress Terrace, Burtonsville, MD  20866, and Mr. Larry Dorman (301 890-3364), of 3403 Hampton Hollow Drive, Silver Spring, MD  20904, want used clothing? Is that why they want my address? The dog tears up all my clothes.

I received a call from this number recently, too, didn't recognize it, so let the machine get it, then called back with the same results as everyone else.   (number has been disconnected) In the past, when the National Children's Center has called (we donate to them all the time), they've called from a line with the name clearly visible on the caller id (NCC, or Nat Children Center, or similar), which is why I was unsure this time.  Never had a problem with them before - won't stop donating to them in the future... however, I much prefer knowing who is calling & won't pick up the phone if I am unsure as to whether it's them (or anyone else) or not.

I have a hard time believing it is a legitimate charity.  They called 11:30 am on 8/1/07 and asked for my ex-husband.  I said he no longer lived here, and they said "sorry" and hung up.  If it was the Nat'l Children's Center, why would they not have asked me if I had a donation to make?

They called again yesterday (I wasn't home) and today.  When asked to be removed from their calling list, they told me to call the customer service department of the National Children's Center at (301) 595-3840, so I called that number, and the representative indicated they needed my name, address, and telephone number before I could be removed.  I gave them my name and number and told them my address was unlisted, so I wasn't going to give it out, so I asked her to look up my address in their computers.  She then responded, "Sir, we don't have any computers here, so I can't look up your number.  I will need your address if you want to be removed."  What a bunch of crock!  So when I asked how they make their phone calls, she says she doesn't know "nothin'" about that department, so she couldn't any answer.  Am I really to believe they don't have computers?!?!?  Give me a break.

We donated clothes before to the National Children's Center, but I definitely am NEVER going to donate again to NCC or any of the affiliated non-profits of Ellison enterprises.  I'll take the clothes to Goodwill instead.

(I'll also report back if they don't speedily remove me from their calling list.)

We have been donating to the National Children's Center for the past 6 years... They do call and tell us when they will be in our area to pick up donations... They do not take larger items and will refer you to Salvation Army for those types of donations.  The program is called "Household Goods Donation Program".      http://www.nccinc.org/giving/don_HouseholdGoods.cfm
They are a NON-Profit Org. and can call even if you are on a do not call list.  Hope this gives you the informatin you were looking for, best of luck...

I called the CFO of National Children's Center and gave her the link to this website and also name, address and phone number of the caller. I also happen to know the President of the board of directors, so if the CFO cannot resolve this and stop this, I will call him for help.

I don't think "Value Village" is Children's National Medical Center, but the National Children's Center (NCC), see http://www.nccinc.org/giving/don_HouseholdGoods.cfm

NCC used to run their own thrift store operation--5 stores in Maryland, but now are part of the Ellison for-profit thrift store network.  Some of their company names include Corsair, Apogee Retail, Value Village Enterprises and Qivet.

I too receive numerous calls daily from this number, 301-890-3364, which is indeed someone from the National Children's Center.  If you call the number back, a recording indicates it's disconnected.  Verizon tells me this is because this is an outgoing line only, and does not take incoming calls (I guess they'd find all the calls annoying, just like we do).  I called the National Children's Center in DC to get removed from their call list, and they advised me to call 301-595-3840.  I did so and was assured that I would be removed from their call list immediately. We'll see.

I just got a call from 301-890-3364.  No name on the caller id, just "Maryland," which is how cell phones usually come through.  I answered it, and no one said anything right away, so I hung up.  If I don't know the caller, I only give them about a second, because I don't want to talk to anybody that uses a machine dialer.

I see from the posts above that the caller is Value Village.  I get calls from them every couple of months, but usually the caller id shows a person's name.  Value Village is not a non-profit themselves, but they provide significant support to non-profit organizations.  Here in the DC area, they support the Children's National Medical Center, who I can thank for saving my son's life two years ago.

If I get another call from this number, I'll answer it.  The Value Village people have always been courteous when they call, and I'm happy to support them.

thanks for the message.  I also got the call from this number.  Followed your instruction and tried to block it on Comcast service.  After dialing *60 and followed the prompt, a message came on and said that the number could not go through and asked me to try again later.
Were you successful in blocking this number?

As others have said, it IS the National Children's Center.  The first time they called me, I told the girl that I've never heard of them.  That's when I decided to look them up on the Internet. Below is what I found.  The trucks that come to my neighborhood say, "National Children's Center" on them.  Below is what the "Net" says about them.  I'm not sure, though, what they do with their neighborhood collections.

"Founded nearly 50 years ago, National Children's Center, Inc. (NCC) is a leader in providing comprehensive and innovative services for children and adults with developmental disabilities in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
Our mission is to provide a lifetime of opportunities for people in our community with developmental disabilities to live full, meaningful and productive lives."

This does not excuse the way they make their calls but I don't think any of these "Pick up your stuff" charitable places leave a message.

called 3x in one day, the first call at 7:15 AM, the last time being at 8:50 PM!!!!!!  Come on, any time before 9:00AM, is too early and after 6:30PM is too late to solicit, especially if there are children in the house trying to sleep!  I gave to them last month, that is enough for now.  They need to stop calling, because of all their calls and hang ups I will not give to them again!
