Never answer unsolicited emails, texts, or phone calls claiming to be from your bank.  Do not take their word for it.  How do you know if they are real or a scammer?

If you have any doubt, just call the number the YOU KNOW to be correct.  For credit card accounts, just use the customer service number on the back of your card.  For bank accounts, use the number on your records.  If the fraud department was really trying to contact you, they'll be able to transfer you easily.

NOT Newark.  Thieves like you should be strung up by your gonads to a high voltage fence.  Get a job.  You cost me two weeks' worth of headache by catching me off guard.

Go straight to H-ll.  Do not Pass Go, do not collect $ 200.

The person you spoke to probably didn't realize it was their "call-out-only-phone-number" because you can not call them back on it and the 800 numbers need an extension number or it hangs up on you.

Your best bet will always be to call the number to Customer Services 800 number on the back of your credit card, and as I have been saying, in case your entire wallet has been stolen [unless your mate / partner has the same card and they are with you] give your credit card number and this phone number on the back of your card to a trusted friend or family member to notify BOA that your card has been lost or stolen to provide you with a measure of security.

I am glad they called when I made a strange purchase [ that looked suspicious to them ] to keep my credit cards safe. Nice service with all the identity theft going on these days, which is frightening when you think of it. Depending on your card services, ID theft is horrible and takes forever to get it corrected.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that no one is out to get you.

Actually, they live on Earth unless you know something that the rest of us don't.

Just call the number for Customer Services on the back of your credit card [store it with a trusted family member or trust friend in case your wallet is stolen and call them to have your card account closed and send you another one] to be sure you get to the right people to help you.

But, hey, what do I know? I am a Martian.

Actually, FIA Card Services is NOT a collection agency except to collect payments for your credit card. They provide processing for BOA AND my personal bank so both cards I have were provided to me by FIA Card Services originally, but BOA later told me I could just send the payment directly to them, which was fine for me.

FIA Card Services is in Dallas, Texas and only deals with issuing credit cards [legitimately] and your bill will usually have their information on it.

So, all is okay even though I heard some slightly negative things about FIA CC cutting down your spending limit if you are flatulent in the least.

Hope this helps.

Yes, it is legitimate. Bank of America Card Services calls to check if there are any suspicious purchases on your card to confirm that it was you that made them as a security measure to protect you from card theft.

I really appreciate this service because of the security measure it provides to protect the use of my credit cards.

You can not reach them by calling the 302 area code number in Delaware, and the 800 numbers they give you on the recording requires a extension or they hang up on you.

Just call the Customer Service Number on the back of your card [ record this number and keep it with a family member or trusted friend in case your card is lost or stolen so your card can be frozen and not be used to drive up a large bill by a thief or finder of your card.]

If you lose the card or its stolen, you will not have the number on you because they may have gotten your entire wallet so it makes no sense to keep it on you, unless you are with your spouse and they have the same credit card in their wallet and its with them and you.

Part of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions.  Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.

The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.  There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

It's legit. It's the Bank of America Fraud department. In my case I had made a change to my account and had received 2 calls on my land line from BofA confirming that but asking that I call IF those were not valid. I didn't call. Apparently, since I had changed the mailing address on the account they felt it necessary to get a verbal confirmation so they called my cell phone - which isn't listed on my account and this time left no message. So when I saw that people were saying it was BofA I called using their 800 number and the fraud department confirmed that they were trying to contact me. I guess fraud is so rampant these days that they felt the need to go the extra mile to confirm my change. And I appreciate their effort.

It is not legit, please becareful. These people have already used my Bank of America Credit Card because I wasn't careful. They call - They convience - They steal.

Luckily, Bank of America has a security feature on their cards so when you are taken you are not fully responsible, and they will go through each and every charge with you and those you did not make you are not liable for.

But take my warning, please, the people running this scam are not you everyday yokals. I am not liable for the charges because they were not mine - I am still getting calls from 302-458-1590 claiming to be Bank of America with my OLD Credit Card number, and calls from the companies they ripped off in my name because the REAL Bank of America cancelled payment or applied a charge back for purchases that were not mine.

The company using your Credit Card Numbers, also uses your personal information. Please becareful.

Something is fishy.... They called fishing for my personal info. It sounded ok, since they had some of my personal info and transaction history. I did not disclose any info, hung up and called BofA direct. BofA could not confirm if this number and department even existed.... either way, better safe than sorry. Don't give them any info!

I don't see in message that you have prove that it's bank of america  since everyone you call can say that. When I returned this call the lady asked me to give my social security number and of course i refused. A real card services company would never ask you a s.s. number on the phone. and this makes my heart shaking on how many people are getting victims of fraud. i wish i would know how to take care of hunting down those animals.

I got a Call from that 302-458-1590 phone number, which came up on the caller ID as Card Services. The Lady who said her name was Mrs. Groundtree, was calling for my daughter who was not here at the time. I did take a Message and she gave me a toll free number which does not match any of the previous listed numbers on here. When I Informed her that this was not my daughters phone number she did apologize. Anyway, my Daughter does not have a Bank Of America (BOA) credit card, she only has Visa. I Told my daughter to call her credit card company and when she did, they told her there was no problems with her account. I don't know what to make of all these people on here saying it is a legit number, but like was previously stated by others, it is best just to call your credit card company from the phone number that you know is legit. If those phone Calls are legit, they should just inform you to call your credit card company and not bother with a toll free number to call them back! Use your Head and be safe, don't trust anyone on the phone, or internet, unless you are 100% sure of who they are!

Owen, I'm guessing you work for some of these F'ing phishers?
THIS IS NOT A LEGIT BANK OF AMERICA ORGANIZATION.

Verified today, after receiving the same kind of warning call from the 302 area code. Yes, you very well may have had an alert for the attempted fraud against YOU, but that doesn't mean the caller was a legit rep of BOA.

I did the same thing, called the number on the back of my card, and BOA COULD NOT verify any such hold on my account, nor did they know who that number belonged to. Thankfully, there was no fraud attempts on my card, but it never hurts to check. JUST DON'T CALL THE NUMBERS 'THEY' GIVE, call the numbers for your bank or credit card only, as they appreciate people reporting these things as well.

Thanks to all others that posted & saved me & others from such a disaster.

Got a call from this number on 9/8/11.  Woman stated she was our BOA "account representative?.  Wanted me to make a payment on our credit line which she stated was past due.  She also wanted a payment on my husband?s credit card.  Neither account payment was actually due for 2 more weeks.  She knew enough about our accounts to be credible, but something about her attitude set off red flags. She even threatened that we could be foreclosed on if we didn?t make a payment.  At one point, she put me on hold to ?check something? even though she had earlier indicated she had all our account information in front of her.  At that point I hung up.  Next morning my husband called BOA and spoke to several divisions (mortgage, credit cards, and equity/lines of credit).  Each of these divisions stated categorically that no one from BOA had called us and there was nothing in their account systems to indicate there was any reason for us to be contacted. No one in any of these divisions could confirm that the phone number is actually a BOA number.  They all said we should report the call to BOA fraud department.  Don?t give anyone who calls you from this number any information.  They appear to be phishing!

Yes, they left message, I called my card's number (not the one they left) and they confirmed that they had called.  Sure enough there was a charge (confirmed online) for a hotel 2000 miles away on my card.  Card cancelled.  {sigh}

Remember that in January, 2006, MBNA merged with and into Bank of America. MBNA America Bank, National Association, (MBNA) then became a wholly owned subsidiary of Bank of America. In June, 2006, MBNA changed its name to FIA Card Services, so your card may be serviced by BofA or FIA and you may not know it.

Bottom line, if this number calls, call you own card number right away.

This is a scam. Old guy with heavy accent calls and leaves "urgent" message yet somehow fails to say what it is about it. That is the tip off that it is a scam.

If you search the net you will find they are trying to get you to give them info on people they think you know or are related to.

Someone needs to tell them that a legit job is much less hassle than trying to make a living this way..shezz!

I just called the number that the message left it's a 1 800 number.  DO NOT CALL the number on the caller ID.  I just talked with B of A and she said that since I didn't answer the phone it left a number connecting to B of A, but if I had called the number from caller ID it's FRAUD and they would have asked for my SS# or account # .  BEWARE.

So I was called from an unavailable number, and the vm told me to call 1 866 518 1695.  I called them and, after multiple attempts to verify my identity (I apparently didn't have the right password), I received a call from 302 458 0973, which I picked up. After I was on hold for 15 minutes (I had asked for a manager) I was called AGAIN from an unavailable number.  I upgraded to a manager and I asked him to provide any proof that he was who he was, and he pretty much said he couldn't.  I then called the number on the back of my card, and the people at BofA verified that I did in fact talk to someone from BofA.

So, YES my 302 caller WAS legit...but it's SO STUPID that they can't verify themselves when they tell you to call...esp re a fraud / change in personal info situation. It's been 45 minutes since the situation started and I'm still typing this.
