I just got a call from "Card Services".  It was Anne this time.  When they call from Michigan, it's Rachel and when they call from New York, it's Rebecca.  And I've had dozens of different calls from as many states, always using a different girl's name.  After reading the posts, I thought I would add my two cents.

Please don't blame the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY.  These are robo-calls that are computer generated.  Unless you have tracking equipment on your phone, you don't really know where these calls are coming from.  The phone numbers they use are not in service and with the right software, anyone can program their own caller ID.  They definitely don't want to offer you a lower interest rate on your credit card or consolidate your credit card debt.  This is the ruse these scammers use to get your personal information for nefarious reasons, such as unauthorized purchases and identity theft.

Sorry for everyone's irritation, mine included.  Just don't answer any calls you don't recognize.  However, if you want to get some of your own back, string them along.  Ask them which credit card they want to lower the rate on.  When they don't know and want you to tell them, insist that they tell you, since they initiated the call.  You can be very serious and mention that with all of the scam out there, they can certainly understand your concern.  You can keep them chasing their tail with this approach for about fifteen minutes and it frustrates the heck out of them.  They will eventually hang up on you.  I've done that when I've had time, just for kicks.  It's mean, I know, but it gives me a perverse sense of satisfaction.

Long story short when anyone wants your personal information and you haven't initiated the call... You know the rest of the story.
