READ When you order a magazine subscription; on your own; your name automatically goes on a list with your address, which magazines etc. Say you order a National Geographic subscription, for 2 years- that goes in a system with National Geographic, you then have 3rd party campaign companies who BUY these lists from whichever magazine companie, and then they will call and call and call to renew your subscription; whether with a discount or a "gift" (Gift vouchers, Gift cards...or whatever they have to offer).
So, when a few of you who have called "National Geographic, orGolf World", whichever, and they told you it's a scam-they're the ones' lying, they don't want you to know that they SOLD your information to a 3rd party company. They ALSO, use the 3rd party companies to market their magazines. So, the actual company (National Geographic) not only SELLS your information, they also continue to profit from the 3rd parties, as they receive money for the magazines themselves.

I have dealt with these people before. I do order subscriptions, but I am fully AWARE of the entire operation, as I didn't (like everyone here) want to get screwed.

Basically, if you like to read magazines; like to keep them coming; some companies allow you to change them without charge, and provide you a list of what they carry.
SO, have them explain the entire service to you, SLOWLY, have their supervisor explain the service. UNDERSTAND your rights: The entire conversation is recorded; as by law, electronic payments by phone HAS to be recorded, and you HAVE to agree to the terms and conditions in order for the contract to be legitimate. You are initiating a CONTRACT by phone, so understand the entirety of the service before agreeing.
This is the magazine callers operation in its entirety. This is EXACTLY what they do, how they obtain your information and how they operate.
I am in no way excusing the S*** customer service some of you are stating on their end.
Just want everyone here to be able to make an educated decision, and to go from there.

Thanks,
Nancy

Before you are deceived by these people like I was, take a look at the mailing label on the magazine in question, and find out when the subscription expires. I didn't, and now my husband's Street Rodder magazine doesn't expire until 2022!

Since there is a civil suit pending, they may be in violation of the law if they are still calling people, or sending renewal notices in the mail.  We received a notice in the mail from them today, which I will be forwarding to the Colorado Attorney General.

You can read a copy of the 64 page court document at the website below. (their scripted sales pitch starts on page 29)

I was Recently Employed by interstate readers league of Atlanta i worked there for two hours and walked out. DO NOT BY IN TO THIS BULL**** you do get ripped off all the "gifts and prizes" are fake false crap, it doesn't matter who u are or when they call your conformation number doesnt change from the previous caller! they promote harassment of the people call and write it off as aggressive sales.if your wondering about the $25,000 thousand dollars they promise your entered to win don't be. the script they had us read, well you can clearly see all they did was white out the year instead of printing new ones, the watches, eh buy your next watch at Wal-Mart it will last longer and you will get to wear. as far as contracts go they barely care about who they sell too you just have to have a way to pay they don't keep records of who buys what other then what you write down at your desk. The subscriptions can not be canceled ever. and the interview process is total crap....my suggestion don't answer and if you do tell em where to stick the scrap paper they are writing your credit card number on!

Also on the Do Not Call list, I get 4 - 5 calls a day from them. I've never answered and they won't leave a message. I figured only a jerkoff telemarketer would call 5 times a day and not leave a message. This website confirmed my suspicion.

i have been recieving multiple calls from this number recently.  Sometimes multiple times in the same day. The same thing happens where there is a computer at first and then a guy saying my name a couple of times. Most telemarketers have the decency to call me "Mrs M" instead of by my first naem.  I put in a complaint with the DNC List.

Called three times today, my wife finally answered they tried to extend US Weekly.  My wife told them we don't subscribe to the magazine.  They then said they were sorry and their records showed we subscribed to US Weekly, then hung up.  Let see if they call back.

Began calling several days ago, called about every two hours stopping at 9 pm and starting at 8 am. Never left a message.  I finally answered today, a woman came on asking for me by name and said she was from TV Guide calling about my subscription (I don't have one). The background was very noisy. Before I could tell them to take me off their list, they hung up without another word. I am on the do not call registry and this the first telemarketing call I have received in many months.

Accidental disconnections always happen. It sucks. I know. Try being on my end when that happens. Equipment is rather old and sometimes if you accidentally bump the cord the wrong way it will cause the headset to not work properly. Sorry for your inconvenience. Reps do their best to work with to cords as quickly as possible to reestablish a good connection. Its not only inconvenient to you but to your rep as well as they loose a possible sale.

answering machines: earn an A for answering machine. Which means your number will be dialed again. Until removed from list. Reps are not allowed to leave messages on answering machines. Have to have a live person. Not to mention it takes up too much time. And reps are able to keep their jobs by making a quota. If that quota is not filled. The company cannot afford to pay to someone who cant make the money. Yes if the rep makes that quota they are given a small reward for that pay period. Which here it is every week. We have to have 9 capped (completed) sales. The company don't see why they should have to take away from other sales reps who are able to make the quota just to pay someone who can not.

I'm sorry to inform you of this but at least here in the United States. It is not harassment if you are not "put on the do not call list". And once you let your rep know those exact words. it still takes about 3 full business days to back fully taken off of just that one location's call list. The "Do not call list" is then faxed to all sister companies. And they remove your number as well. Your telephone number is then so to speak "blacklisted" for 90 days. Then it expires off of that list. If another call is received after that time period, it's because your number was added again to a list that is being sold to different telemarketing companies. The blame for that is usually one of two possible actions. One you applied online for something, such as a credit card or anytime that requires your phone number. Or your telephone company has sold it. I've gotten calls that were place to people that had their phone just activated 2 hours prior to receiving the call. So please do not chew/cuss out your reps that call. Just tell them you're not interested and ask to be "Put on the do not call list". It is not the reps fault. And being yelled and screamed at every time does not help anyone. And neither does just hanging up. That just earns you a temporary refusal code in the computer and your number could be dialed again in 2 seconds or 2 minutes etc.

All calls are dialed by a computer. The reps do not have anything other than a keyboard, a screen and a headset. If you weren't called back. Call back yourself and ask to speak to the first line supervisor or manager. Here in Atlanta his name is Berry. I'm positive that he'll be more than happy to help you fix the error. If there was an error. If you had any past due payments and funds weren't available at the time of your scheduled payment then what happened was that the whole past due amount was taken while the funds were there. If you do not pay your payments on time or payments can not be taken due to lack of funds. They you will be reported to a collection agency.

Actually if you bothered to stick around you would know that the reps do NOT write card numbers down. And as far as the subscriptions, it does end at the end of the 48 months just as promised. The subscription will automatically stop. The publishers may or may not send a form to customers to ask if they would like to renew their subscriptions. But that is all on the publishers. As for the prizes awarded in the sweepstakes, again if you bothered to actually stick around you would have seen them. And let me guess you didn't make the encouraged amount of sales thus you were asked to leave. If that is the case then you need to get your head out of the clouds and own up to your own personal failure. Selling is the hardest part yes. Especially now with the economy the way that it is. And IRL Atlanta does not just take people's money. There is a strict approval. If you make less than a certain amount the customer's order will not be accepted as to not take away from things that should be priority, such as feeding families and paying bills. If the customer is on any sort of disability or unemployment or just child support checks, the customers are not accepted for the same reasons as listed above.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience working there. But you shouldn't bad mouth what you don't have any real idea about. And it takes way more than just 2 hours time to learn and understand the procedures.

Calls to ask me to renew baseball Digest.  My subscription is good thru 2012. Baseball digest prints a message in their magazine saying they never solicit by phone and to refuse phone calls seeking renewal.  When I mention this to the caller they say they got my name from Baseball Digest but hang up anyway after a brief discussion about the matter.
