I received a call from this number at 3:30 pm, Eastern, the man on the line asked for Debbie Carty. I use to be that name over 18 years ago! When I divorced this man, I moved to a different place. To my knowledge I owe nothing. In 2001, I filed for bankruptcy and all debts were forgiven, so, no one should be coming back at me for anything.
The man on the line wanted to know my name now and I told him I hadn't been that name for a long time. He abruptly hung up on me. I tried to call this number back, left a message that someone from that number called and I wanted to know what it was about, left my number, hung up.
I have no idea who it was that called, muchless what it is about.
I tried the *67, it goes to a voice mail stating, this party is unavailable, leave a message.

Found their number on a piece of scrap paper by my phone. I used my c ell phone and dialed *76 then their number. THe man who answered said "Hello" and I told him i had found his number on a piece of paper and was trying to find out who this number belongs to. He asked me "what number did we dial when we tried to reach yout"? I explained that I wasn't sure they had called me, that i had found the paper by my phone and asked it this was a business. He replied " That's a nice story" and then remained quiet as if i would explain who i was. I laughed again and asked if he is a business. He responded again "Like I said, that's a nice story" and then I said "Well if you won't answer my question and tell me who you are I'll just google you." He didn't say anything and then hung up. LOL that made my day. I always use the *67 option when I return a call to an unknown number. Most times they can't call you back.

Source RM appears to be a bottom feeder dealing at least to some degree in junk debt.
They are aggressive callers and use Broadvoice communications. They are unswayed by the truth in caller id act, and your caller id will normally have either a city name, or "Broadvoice", the name of their phone carrier.
If you try to call them back, you may appear not to get through, although it is more likely that they are just creating the appearance of a failed call. Your call may be logged by their computer. If you get a person, it is difficult to get any information from the collectors, but the info you need is posted below.

Hey Sick,
Did you read my post? Like I said, Broadvox is the phone company they are using, not who is calling you. Don't believe me? Try going to broadvox.com . Now go to www.sourcerm.com . Which one do YOU think you were talking to? It wasn't a telemarketer, it was a debt collector.
If you read my post you will know what to do. Or you can sit there and blow your own horn.
It is up to you, puddinghead.

The name that appears on caller id for this # is "BROADVOX DISTRI."
I made the HUGE mistake of answering the phone the first time this # called us. The scum bag on the other end of the line insited on speaking with someone I've never heard of. I told him he had the wrong #. He wanted to argue the matter so, I hung up. He called right back and tried to pick up where he left off. I grabbed the air horn we keep near the phone for telemarketers, told the kids to plug their ears and blasted the horn in his ear. I have instructed the kids to "NOT ANSWER THE PHONE" when their # appears on caller id. They can call all they want! No one will ever answer.

This caller appears to be Source RM. If Internet reports are correct, they are a bottom of the barrel collection agency, dealing mostly in junk paper (time barred debts, etc.) with a tendency to violate the FDCPA, FCRA, etc,.
See this site: <http://www.stopcollector.com/agency.php.n=srm> to see one source for these allegations.
I would suggest ignoring or blocking this caller, since they at least appear to be potential scofflaws, and may be inclined to ignore a cease and desist letter once they have found someone to torment.
If you feel you must speak with them, do not acknowedge anything, or offer to make a payment. Be very wary of accidentally re-starting the clock on time barred debt (past the statute of limitations). DEMAND validation. DEMAND everything in writing. DO NOT give them access to your bank account, credit card, or debit card. If you send them money (why?) then use a bank check or postal money order, NOT your personal check and NEVER a check by phone to ANYONE. DO NOT let them bully you. Paying an old debt can actually hurt your credit score! (Strange, but true.)
MOST IMPORTANTLY, read the FDCPA, FCRA, and TCPA laws first. Knowledge is power, and forewarned is forearmed. I have provided links to PDF files of these laws below. You may also find it useful to spend some time on the FTC.gov and FCC.gov web sites as well.
If this collector violates the laws mentioned above then you can sue tham and win. Do not let them create a sense of urgency, or make you feel powerless. You can take charge of this situation if you educate yourself. They are unlikely to take you to court unless the debt is recent and substantial, and they cannot have you arrested.

http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/031224fcra.pdf
http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/policy/TCPA-Rules.pdf
BTW, the caller ID is showing te name of their phone company, not te name of the caller. This might be construed as illegal, if the intent is to decieve with the hope of monetary gain.

Jerks just hang up. Harassment call
| amber 2011-05-04 16:26:59 Unknown |
it IS harassing at this point. Asking for my husband.. these calls constitute harassment and therefore, in the state of Colorado, you can seek legal action, small claims, and sue them.
I am sick of it and am proceeding forward with several harassers.
