Got a call from this number around 9:30 this morning. Didn't recognize the number, and I don't know anyone living in Nebraska. I let the answering machine get it, and all I got was some woman's voice saying something like, "IT'S A SURPRISE!", or something like that (her garbled voice made it hard to make out what she said exactly)

The Person called from this number and said that is for a children's fund...  They help children?  Does not sound legit

Donors Grant Wish of Telemarketer

When someone calls on the phone and asks you to donate to an organization with a name like Children?s Wish Foundation International, wouldn?t you like to think that most of your money would help grant the wishes of terminally ill children? When AIP President Daniel Borochoff got this call at his home in Maryland, he did what any informed donor would do ? he asked how much of his contribution would go to the telemarketing company. The caller, who had identified herself as a telephone solicitor for Reese Brothers Company, asked her supervisor and came back with a figure of ?a set amount, no more no less.? When Mr. Borochoff asked her to clarify, she asked another superior and then stated, ?Almost 100% goes to charity.?

This statement seems curious since the Children?s Wish Foundation?s 1997 federal return showed a budget of $21.3 million, with $12.9 million, or about 60% being paid to Reese Brothers. The actual amount spent on granting dying children?s wishes was reported as $1.9 million, about 9% of the organization?s total expenses, to complete 207 wishes, and another $0.4 million was spent on related services. $11.6 million, or about 84% of this charity?s program service expenditures, were used to ?distribute educational material about wish children to the general public.? The group?s tax-return indicates that nearly all such materials were distributed in conjunction with a fundraising solicitation.

How can a telemarketer that is paid nearly $13 million tell donors that almost all of the money will go to charity? According to state law in Maryland and other states, all money collected by an outside professional fundraiser must go directly into an account controlled by the charity. The fundraisers may receive a large chunk of that money later on, but to say that it all goes to charity is not technically a lie. It is however, very misleading. In a 1988 ruling, the Supreme Court deemed it unconstitutional for any regulator to require charitable fundraisers to say something they do not want to say when speaking to potential donors. At the same time, professional fundraisers have a financial incentive not to volunteer the percentage of each contribution that ends up in their hands.

Giving in response to a slick telemarketing appeal is tricky business. A wise donor finds out what the professional solicitor?s cut is before making a donation.

On Jan. 24th 2013, received a call from this number & male voice asked for a donation for "Kids Wish".  I told hime to send me something & I would consider it.

Received call and when I answered this lady said she was from the Childrens Wish and I told her no and hung up.  I don't make donations from any organization that phones me.

I live in Texas.   Should I contribute to anything,  it would be to benefit all children from all states...

Just received a call. Says they are the Childrens Wish network. I asked if it was Make A Wish and the woman said No, they are Children's Wish and all the donaitions are for Florida children. She wanted to send me an envelope for a pledge. I said she could send it and I would see if I was able to help. But doing some checking on the net it doesn't seem like a good orgamization.

Rec'd a call from them. The lady said she was from the Children's Miracle Network and was asking for a donation. Told her at the time I could not send anything. Can we send you something in the mail and when you can then send us something. Told her a fixed income would not allow it. She hung up on me.

need to report this harrassment from unwanted calls including this one who never leaves a message.

I just pick up and let the phone line stay open.  Yesterday I forgot and had an unknown caller on the line for almost an hour.  The Do Not Call List has certainly turned out to be a waste of time.  I get all  types of solicitations including those that are included on the DNC list.

It's The Make a Wish Foundation. They call and call and call. They thank me for a donation that I didn't make last year and ask for my continued support.

Same story here in that we get multiple calls w/ disconnects and no message.  I called the number and requested my phone number be taken off their list.  My phone # is on the National do not call list as well.

The caller ID says Nebraska, when you answer they say nothing.  They call constantly.  This is harrassment.

They are a fund raiser for various charities. If you call the number someone does answer and you can ask that they remove your number. Well, we'll see.....

I am registered on the national do not call list and am getting calls from this number. When I call back I get no answer.  Would love for this to stop.

Calls all the time, never leaves message.  If I answer, they hang up.  Really tired of this stuff!

The 308-737-3002 number calls us day and night almost non stop. When we answer it disconnects.  When we leave it to the answering machine they hang up,

We tried calling the number and a recording tells us that number is not obtainable.

Who is this number and what are they?  There must be something a person can do to stop this.  How many others of you out there are being harassed from this number?  Any infor?
