This # has been calling regularly for the last few weeks - a couple times a day!  Never leaves a message.  Annoying!  How do I get them to STOP calling?!

Received 5 calls within a two hour window on Feb. 13th, 2012.  No messages left, just dead air.  Does anyone know who this is? I logged a complaint with the 'Do Not Call Registry'

I didn't pick up becuase I'm switiching to a new phone service but decided to Google them just in case it was from someone I would want to hear from.  Anyway - glad I didn't pick up!

I just started receiving calls from this number today 1-26-12., and I'm in the state of Georgia. Few seconds of noise on my voicemail and when I answered I was hung up on. I tried calling back, but received the message "call cannot be completed as dialed".

Following up on my own post: The AIC has not replied yet. However, I found out that anyone can buy aps for a smart phone, that will disguise your voice, literally give you a different voice.

I conclude that unless you know the caller - friend or family - no phone call can be trusted to who the caller ID says it is.

If they say they're from a political campaign, what are the chances they are spammers/phishers/fraudulent?

If there is a small chance, that still puts EVERY SINGLE CALL UNDER SUSPICION.

Do we have any way to find out if they're spammers? No. Under current laws, we are at their mercy.

The Do Not Call list does not work.
If they claim to be a charity or political organization, which would have a legal right to call us, there is nothing we can do but accept them at their word, or not.

I choose not. From now on, because the technology is so deceptive, I can only choose to regard every caller I do not personally recognize, as a fraud.

Contact your congressman/senator. Demand a change in the law. If you're into activism, get active. Get your organization interested in the issue - whether it's Public Citizen or the NRA. We need to mobilize. This is an issue left and right can agree on.

I just got such a call from 310-215-5555. It was a nice old lady, who knew my first name, and said she was calling for the Art Institute of Chicago. She asked if I could support the AIC with a donation of $50 today.

I was polite...she is an old lady. I told her I was already a member (I'm not) and that I support the AIC with my annual membership.

Call ended friendly.

Next stop: I'm going to call the AIC and see if they are conducting a legitimate funding drive.

Said calling for Obama campaign.  Then I said ok and they hung up.  I tried to call back, but no return calls allowed.  Suspicion, so I went on-line to investigate this number.

I am guessing it's Monterey Bay Aquarium, since someone else posted about that and I have received over 5 letters from them asking for donations over the past couple weeks. Also, it may be a "fake #". A lot of places use those when calling out because people don't answer blocked calls. Like ATT u-verse uses 222-222-2222. Which leads me to believe multiple "call centers" can use the same "fake #", meaning it may have been the Monterey Bay Aquarium for some of us, but a totally different company for others.

Two calls this month so far.  Same no message, and cannot be called back with a hacky "This call cannot be completed" message.

Their regional phone numbers are on their site, lower right hand corner of "About US" section.

Same as others have reported--getting daily calls for a couple weeks that are hang ups when voice mail picks up. Caller ID says Los Angeles, CA. Reverse look up didn't pull up a name.

anyone know who/what this is? They asked for my dad and since I said he wasn't here they thanked me and hung up.

They've been calling my house every day for more than a week, twice on Friday.  When the answering machine picks it up there's just dead air.  Message line says it's from Los Angeles.
