Just happened to me!

I did the same but didn't fall for the download. I looked here so thankfully I am running a full scan and hoping that just the link didn't do any damage. I was stupid to even reply to the text!! Ugh...Damn idiots they are scum of the earth!

This just happened to me, came from a local number 240-428-4166 I tried to open the link and it wasn't compatible with my device. Stupid me wasn't thinking it was malicious I typed the address in my laptop but it wanted me to install a Firefox Flash plug in...should I be concerned just opening up the page?? Ugh my virus protection didn't pick anything up!!!

I run a small full-service web development studio in Santa Cruz and got the following text (including misspellings):

"Hello about your CL post Heres what needs done. HEre are some slideshow pics- ((image-att)) http://vzimg.net/?pix=6777MWK. Need ann estimate."

Upon clicking, the website seems legit, every other slideshows on it seems to be accessible, but his is the one one that requires a plugin, which means he used an FLV format intentionally, perhaps to promote his software plugin and get people to download it. The problem is, the advertisers he uses are the culprit, loading the installation package with bloatware and malware, causing host computers to crash and malfunction.

Please be aware of the following common sense rules:

- Do not download or install anything you are not 100% confident about.
- If you absolutely HAVE to install a plugin for a known file format (such as FLV, which is Adobe's), and such software comes bundles, even if it comes from Adobe, opt out of installing any additional software that comes with it. Some installer are pretty sneaky, but they will ALWAYS allow you to opt out. In this particular case, there is some small text at the bottom of the installation window that says "customize installation", if you hit that you will see check boxes that allow you to avoid installing anything else but the intended package.

It is illegal to force people to download and install something against their will, so such options either are there or the software maker is reported to the FCC and penalized for distributing harmful software.

so I get this text message on my phone -  view these pics and get back to me - well of course I had to send the text to my laptop and I downloaded tmopix and some Generio B***s*** -  turns out to be a scam to steal your personal info - I just spent 45 minutes cleaning this crap off of my computer -

So Karma to those s*** heads that sent me this b***s*** and that Karma is - they get arrested & once in jail the Brothas take care of business

or who knows maybe it's the Spy on us All the Anti American -   NSA - C***Suckers

I just got a text from this number in response to a craigslist ad I have asking me to look at the pics and give them an estimate for some work to be done.  I went to the site and was told I needed to download a special flashplayer.  I almost did but luckily I didn't and i googled the number first and found this site.  Thanks to all of you who posted and my sympathy to those of you who were infected.  I'm going to run a scan now just in case.

I feel your pain. Just happen to me. I did a restore back two days
and so far so good. I'm about to run the virus checker now.

I run a small business and got a message asking for a bid and estimate. I was given a web address for tmopix and it asked me to download software, so I did. My computer crashed and I lost 121 client information and appointments.....I am so upset and I don't know what to do. Can someone help me? Can I Sue that company?

This number text me a link to some "photos" of something I was looking for on Craigslist. I couldn't get them to work (thankfully I checked here first!)

got infected? do a system restore going back 3 or 4 days before and it will flick it off the HDD because date and time stamp see anything after requested day will be ghosted off the HDD and never to return! My brother is a computer programmer and he help me save a million buck fixing my computer!! I thanked him a million. No need to buy Anvi Smart Defender because he and I believe that these are the same people who created the ad malware to get you to buy the program to get rid of the ad malware BECAUSE they have the code to wipe it off. SHAME SHAME these people can't find anything better to do than to go out and screw up people computer.

Scam tried to install harmful software.  After ad o n Craigslist asking if this would work fir me too.   Stupid of me to do so.  

Smart thinking, same thing happened to me through craigslist.

This number responded to my ad on craigslist. Tried to go to the http site they gave me and nothing came up, so I decided to type in the number and naturally, it was a scammer. Thank God I could not get anything up when I typed it in.

Right On, I got the same scammer and am so tired of all of them. You would think with the technology we have today that they could stop this crap or at least pinpoint where and who its coming from.

I send all my spammers the following, little note. Please foreword:

You Moth******ers are really starting to piss me off. Should I EVER, run into a 419er like you. I will rip off your f****ng head and s*** down your throat. And then f*** your dead body.

This number texted me on a craigslist ad with the link to view pictures when I followed the link I had to install software to view the pictures all that did was install a bunch of junk on my computer including malicious files do not trust this number it is a scam

Don't go to link! I had posted an ad on craigslist looking for band posters, got a text asking "will this work for you?" and a link to tmopix.com, I clicked on the link and then was told I couldn't view the pics unless I downloaded some software, I downloaded the software, I was then notified by my Norton internet security that the software was not safe and it was automatically removed. I live in MN and this number is out of CA, called the number and got a "number has been changed/disconnected" message. I recommend just typing the phone # in google to see if its legit before you do anything. and btw 310-307-0056 can go pound s***, f*** off, and die!

This number texted me with a link to a "photo sharing" website in response to a for sale/trade ad I posted on armslist, but the site said I had to download a program to let me view the pics. I called the number and a recording states that it's disconnected.
