If you have to call yourself "an honest marketing exec" you clearly are not. And if you're going to take the time to write a bogus unbiased review, at least have the decency to make it seem believable.

I worked as a field producer with Heartbeat in Boston about ten years ago.  My role was to meet with business leaders who had responded to our outreach staff with interest in learning more about the opportunity.  I wasn't interested so much in finding the sexiest concept or the next Microsoft, rather an attitude that indicated that it's leader is committed to success and realistic about the role he must play in realizing it,

Heartbeat is a plan and like any other, it must be worked in order for it to be successful. The value is not in the television broadcast, it is in the segment clips provided as the result.  It is incumbent upon the featured business to get these before their prospects, to follow up and to integrate it into their brand.  The production is really quite good, but the benefit of being associated with the show and its people is a huge opportunity in the right hands.

The Heartbeat of America is not a production company or a Chevy truck; it is the courage that allows an actor with an image as a serious young man to put it at risk to find another success in an older (and rounder) body as a self-effacing comedic characte, or a man who puts his career at risk to build a business in a caustic economic climate.

Whether this opportunity will benefit a particular business can only be determined through due dilligence, but this is a legitimate opportunity.   The Heartbeat staff are hard working and competent, and everything that Bert Tenzer has ever said to me has turned out to be accurate.  Anyone considering participating should take the time to meet with them and see if it fits.  I'd hate to see anyone miss out on a potential game-changing opportunity because of an unfounded claim posted by an annonymous blogger with an axe to grind.

I worked for them too. Everything they say is either an out-and-out lie or highly exaggerated. Bert Tenzer owned a chain of video stores in the 70s he sold for big bucks. He likes to pretend that he actually had any kind of career in TV and film. He buys the cheapest time in the middle of the night for these so called shows. He's got to be in his 90s and is a real scammer. The value of what you get is about $1000 tops. He's infringing upon Chevrolet's trademark with the title of the show and Shatner and his reps would be put a stop to the outright lie that Shatner hosts it. Somehow they through enough money at him to tape a generic open for them on the tail of something else he was doing. Suggestion - RUN THE OTHER WAY!

Danny,

I realize you were called and threatened with a lawsuit, just as I was.  Google Ruth Collins,  she was a porn actress in the 80's and you have every right to say how you really feel about this company.
You cannot be sued for posting your previous comment and Collins has been involved in business scams before.  Don't let her bully you.  She's received so many complaints and  bad press they've taken her off the list of Producers (yeah, right.-Telemarketers is all they are) for the show.  She was listed as senior producer and now after her telemarketing scam they have removed her name.  Stand up for your right to comment.  She tried to steal a house she was renting  from my best friend after he died, and that scam didn't work either!  She was evicted.  And then she was evicted again from her next rental with her partner in crime Feliks Parnell and ended up oweing the landlord $40,000.in damages! Beware of this scammer, she's RUTHless!

I received the same letter and phone call. If you post a negative comment with your name, I bet you get a call threatening a lawsuit, probably from  Patricia Allen who called my company and seemed to only repeat the name William Shatner.  You cannot get sued for your Freedom of Speech, and I doubt this company would waste their dwindling funds pursuing any lawsuit when there are so many complaints!  I googled Burt Tenzer, Patricia Allen, and Ruth Collins.  Very interesting.  After finding out their executive producer Miss Collins was a nude actress in many films, I further investigated and found out she is involved in several lawsuits, including one in the 1980's where she was responsible for scamming a small business into closure. You MUST investigate the owner Burt Tenzer, you'll find some interesting facts.  Haven't found anything legal on Miss Allen as yet but it's always wise to do your homework children especially when investing a hard earned dollar.  After speaking with Miss Allen, I have no doubt this is nothing more than a telemarketing scam.

We believe people should not be judged by their mistakes but by their courage to correct them. Here is a classic example: Danny Ray and his Company D. Ray Construction recently posted on this blog false, untrue and highly destructive statements about our company under anonymous names.
On January 12 of this year he posted a rebuttal stating his regrets that he did not "research first and relied only upon this online blog complaint string, mostly posted by anonymous people". He went on to say that he now understands that Heartbeat is a legitimate company and reacted before thinking and truly apologizes for the false statements he posted. Once again is is not the mistake but the way in which one corrects it that reflects their true character.

everyone who is interested.... look for yourself. youtube Heartbeat Of America. first of all it looks like it was made back in the 80s but it is being made today?  now look through the different videos. William Shatner only does the first two questions and they are pre-recorded. he probably recorded it back in 2001 and he is just getting royalties from it not even being invested in the show. (i bet he doesn't even watch the infomercial *eh-hem* the show) the rest of the interview is carried out by some other random person... look at their web site *sniff* smells a little fishy to me, but take a look for yourself.

if you guys are real, then step up your game.
1)fox doesn't charge for interviews and if you guys had an audience then you wouldn't have to charge. (commercials would pay the $15,000 you charge the companies)
2)the production value sucks! I mean, really? how do you expect someone to think your legitimate if you product looks like crap?

We sincerely regret any harm caused to Heartbeat of America, and all of the people involved, especially Ruth Collins.

We did not understand that this was a legitimate company and reacted before thinking.  It is regrettable to us and especially Heartbeat of America that we did not do complete research first and relied only upon this online blog complaint string, mostly posted by anonymous people.  We truly apologize.

QVC takes a huge percentage of everything they sell. So if you want to make any money you better sell a ton if QVC is involved. I can't see this television show partnering with QVC. Heartbeat features companies in which they talk about how it all began and why it works. QVC is a shopping network.I think the show is far more interesting than any paid commercial and you really get a chance to know the people behind the product. These shows are so popular they stream them on lots of media sites on the web.

I don?t know what show your talking about but the Heartbeat of America show airs on America Life Network every Thursday between 8:00 am and 8:30.

You can look it up online on the American Life schedule at: http://www.americanlifetv.com/schedule.

Each episode is a half hour show on just one great company or organization. I?ve watched the show and think it is one of the few positive things on TV. Each week they prove there are still a lot of great companies doing positive things in America.

Yup a real scam. So as she was talking to me, I asked about the cost. I asked real detailed questions. About two minutes into the call, she said she could not hear me cause of the connection and that she would call me back in 10 minutes. What a pleasant way to end a scam. I was real nice to her sort of playing her. In the end, the BBB should investigate. I have lost all respect for Shatner. I grew up in the late 60'/70's and loved the show. What a freeking looser

Just got a call from this same group and they sounded very legitimate, and even had a nice website, but I am suspicious the moment people ask for money upfront, especially $16,000!  I am not in television field, but being in a small business has taught me how to stretch a dollar and for this kind of money, I would be create the news segment myself.

They called and asked to speak to the owner, spoke of William Shatner. The owner of the company does not take calls from people he does not know. He will only answer emails, I offered her his email address, she said " I do not send out unsolicited emails. Then proceeded to ask if I could take down her number, I told her, he will not call you back he only works through email, then she hung up on me. I thought it was fishy, since if you really wanted to interview someone, you would do what it takes to contact them.

We got the call from Patricia Allen today - very insistent on talking to the boss about a possible interview for this tv show, and mentioned William Shatner a billion times.  I suspected a scam and thankfully found this link.  This might not be a "scam" but it sure reeks.  Thanks for the intel.

It says at the bottom of this page to post only truthful information. Where can I start? Please be wary when Heartbeat of America calls you. I would not say it's a scam. It is a real business, which probably will not even be around for much longer because of the bad publicity they attract. They are not good people. They treat their employees like mules. They pay minimum wage and only allow employees to work five hours a day. Add that up and that is really not enough to live on.

I got a call from this company. I googled them and found several companies have streamed there shows on YouTube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH-pmWt95UY
http://www.listal.com/video/6517719#

I also found all these press releases of William Shatner promoting these companies on the web.

http://www.1888pressrelease.com/champ-enginee ... ed-pr-139638.ht

http://www.pr-inside.com/iso-tex-diagnostics-selected-to-appear-r1484640.htm

So I decided I might give it a shot. After talking to one of their producers a few times I was told my company was not right for their TV show. I caught this show a few times on cable at the gym were I work out and I have to say I am much better than some of these clowns Shatner has picked to interview. Why bother to call every company in the phone book if we are not all allowed to get on the show. They even put some mayor on and everyone knows all politicians are liars. I wish I would have found this blog earlier then I probably wouldn't have wasted of this time watching their shows, reading their press releases and wasting my time trying to get my company featured on this show.

This company is owned by Burt Tenzer and he was about 80 years old when I worked for him 15 years ago. I can't believe he is still running the same scam. When I was there we sat in the phone room and hustled unsuspecting merchants for $2,000. I can't believe he is actually getting $15,000. for this junk. The sales reps (telemarketers) are called segment producers, the sales closers are called field producers and the old man is just a washed up news anchor that still wants to maintain his big Malibu lifestyle and younger (although she must be 50 by now) blonde bimbo of a wife. Run do not walk to get away from these scammers.

Yeah - got the same call over here.

Their approach fell on deaf ears from the moment producer "Sandy" started her marketing pitch. In a previous life, I was an entertainment publicist for 8 years; so when I heard her talking about having to pay $16,000... they lost me.

These guys are the worst kind of scam artists. If they had only been up-front about what it was that they were selling, my current company might actually have been interested in perhaps investing some money on producing a good media kit.

Instead, these guys prey on ignorant (and struggling) businesses who may truly believe that having the "endorsement" of a has-been like Shatner would help them get ahead. When the reality is that Shatner is hardly even involved... and, there is definitely no chance for a return on investment here.

Face it. This is a cheaply-produced infomercial... cheap enough that struggling businesses may be able to find the money to buy into it... but substantial enough that this ridiculous operation can continue to operate and appear legitimate.

As far as businesses who HAVE enlisted their services... I'm sure many of them are happy with them (or convince themselves that they are happy with them) only as a psychological defense mechanism. If you had burned $16K, you too will undoubtedly be "thrilled" with the 30-minute end product. Now, tell me if you sales actually improved?

No thanks!

I got the same call and after a long discussion with a few other business owners came to the realization that it is, what it is, an infomercial and you are paying production fees. It sounded great at first all on the up and up, like a nightline or dateline was running the show type feeling, or even that show Made in America type thing. As soon as I brought up that I have a relationship also with QVC and maybe there could be some win win to work together they went right into stammer mode and then I realized it was only about selling me a produced video. If you are in the market for an infomercial then they are probably fine, but don?t be fooled this isn?t a big break because you have a ?special? business. It is a sales tool and they are a marketing company simple enough.
