Telemarketer
These guys use various names and call from different area codes and spoofed numbers, but they are the same guys (I recognize Mike/Jim/Robert/Steve as all being the same person). They use names like Crown Home Improvement, Pacific Coast Home Solutions, Clearview Home Improvements, Advanced Remodeling Center, and JTB Home Improvement. I have actually had them call 3 times within one hour with the same guy, different name, and different company name. They try to overcome my blocking device by calling me from multiple phones, all showing the same phoney number about 3 seconds apart, just to make me think they are not getting blocked. Talk about scumbags!!

Tell Me More About the National Do Not Call Registry
The National Do Not Call Registry gives you an opportunity to limit the telemarketing calls you receive. Once you register your phone number, telemarketers covered by the National Do Not Call Registry have up to 31 days from the date you register to stop calling you.

Why would I register my phone number with the National Do Not Call Registry?
The National Do Not Call Registry gives you an opportunity to limit the telemarketing calls you receive. Once you register your phone number, telemarketers covered by the National Do Not Call Registry have up to 31 days from the date you register to stop calling you.

Who manages the National Do Not Call Registry?
The National Do Not Call Registry is managed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation?s consumer protection agency. It is enforced by the FTC, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and state law enforcement officials.

10 Years of Do Not Call
Why was the National Do Not Call Registry created?
The registry was created to offer consumers a choice regarding telemarketing calls. The FTC?s decision to create the National Do Not Call Registry was the culmination of a comprehensive, three-year review of the Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR), as well as the Commission?s extensive experience enforcing the TSR over seven years. The FTC held numerous workshops, meetings, and briefings to solicit feedback from interested parties and considered over 64,000 public comments, most of which favored creating the registry. You can review the entire record of the Rule review at www.ftc.gov/bcp/rulemaking/tsr/tsrrulemaking/index.htm.

How Does Registration Work?
How soon after I register will I notice a reduction in calls?
Telemarketers covered by the National Do Not Call Registry have up to 31 days from the date you register to stop calling you.

When I register my phone number, how long until it shows up on the National Do Not Call Registry?
After you register, your phone number will show up on the registry by the next day. Telemarketers have up to 31 days to get your phone number and remove it from their call lists.

What if I change my mind? Can I take my number off the National Do Not Call Registry?
You can delete your phone number only by calling toll-free 1-888-382-1222 from the telephone number you want to delete. After you contact the registry to delete it, it will be removed from the National Do Not Call Registry by the next day. But telemarketers have up to 31 days to access information about your deletion and add your number back to their call lists, if they choose to.

If I registered by phone, will I receive a confirmation?
No, but you can verify that your number is on the registry online at www.donotcall.gov or by calling the registry?s toll-free number (1-888-382-1222) and following the prompts for verifying that your number is on the registry.

I received a phone call from someone offering to put my name on the National Do Not Call Registry. Should I let them?
No. The FTC does not allow private companies or other such third parties to register consumers for the National Do Not Call Registry. Websites or phone solicitations that claim they can or will register a consumer?s name or phone number on the National Do Not Call Registry ? especially those that charge a fee ? are almost certainly a scam. Consumers may register directly, or through some state governments, but never through private companies. For consumers, the National Do Not Call Registry is a free service of the federal government.

What About the Privacy of My Information?
If I choose to register my phone number, how will my information be used and disclosed?
We collect your phone number and store it in the National Do Not Call Registry so that telemarketers and sellers covered by the FTC?s rules can remove your phone number from their call lists. Telemarketers are required to search the registry every 31 days and delete from their call lists phone numbers that are in the registry. Phone numbers in the registry also may be shared with law enforcement to assure compliance with federal and state law.

If you contact us via the Internet, we also collect your email address to confirm your registration request. We will store your email address in a secure manner, separate from your telephone number. We will not share your email address with telemarketers.

For more information about the privacy of your information, please see our privacy policy at www.ftc.gov/ftc/privacy.shtm

Many debt collectors have their calls set up to show "Out of area" in the caller ID. Many phones will block a number, but only some phones will block "Out of area", "Private number", etc. they also spoof their calls to look like they are from invalid area codes (001 as an example). Phone company will tell you that you can't block it because it's invalid.

No, suprisingly it doesn't. And I bet you are one of the derps that thinks that the Do Not Call list stops calls from things you voluntarily signed up for and gave permission to call you. Also, a call center is a real job you moron.

Ah, yes, the Do Not Call list. God you people are stupid. That covers SALES. It doesn't stop a bank you are with from calling you, it doesn't stop a gym you are a member with from calling you, it doesn't stop any other service you are a member with from calling you. Know why? Because when you signed up, you put in your number and GAVE THEM PERMISSION TO CALL. Seriously, common sense people.

Survey
Ok, so let me make sure I have this all straight. You sign up for a service. You put in your phone number. You hit a check box where you agree to be contacted, but then you are surprised when the service calls you? Hrmmm, perhaps you could READ when you sign up for a service. Anyway, the standard call cycle for Angies List is THREE calls, Over the course of ONE week, every THREE months. There IS an automated message left on the first and third attempts. They are calling for feedback, to make the service better for YOU. It is a convenience to most people, and many people have said so. Stopping the call is as simple as changing your preferences. And yet, people have the nerve to get angry and rude when they are contacted. Also, the Do Not Call directory, list, or whatever only stops SOLICITATIONS. As in, someone selling you something, which Angies List isn't doing. Sorry, but your ignorance is NOT an excuse, ever. And not having phone manners at all, which the reps deal with on a regular basis, is just deplorable. Pull your head out of your butt, and go read a bit, before getting indignant that someone would DARE to contact you... Google phone manners, and realize that simply yelling "NO" into your phone isn't going to stop calls. Also, if you are a spouse, check if your husband/wife is giving your phone number out, BEFORE getting mad about calls. I swear, phones have been around for the natural lifespan of pretty much every person out there, and yet people still haven't figured out common courtesy. It's absolutely amazing, there should be a class in school on it or something. Also, for the people who get annoyed about requests for feedback, you are human leeches, so congrats on that.

The Federal Do Not Call list is for ADVERTISEMENTS. Check things before you write. These calls are authorized by you in the Membership Agreement when you sign up. *Sigh* Cannot believe the ignorance of some people, and then the nerve to become angry at callers because you don't read contracts. Just absurd and saddening...
