Said it was publishers head quarters and it was a preferred customer winning for a sweepstakes from my bank. Then asked to confirm my address. I did like, like an idiot, and then just looked all this up that it's a scam. The number was 310 831 1556. Now I'm freaked out.

So, same story here, but this time it is from 317-452-8849. I didn't answer to begin with, but decided to mess with them. I make the call active, but I do not talk. The girl says hello, hangs up after a few secs. I called them back last night, it just rang and rang. Tonight, the same- except this time they picked up and said Publishers Headquarters. I hung up on the girl. Ha! I plan on doing this every time they call. I actually have labeled them on my ID caller, so I know they're stupid scammers.

Do you jagoffs understand the DO NOT CALL list? I am registered, and if YOU call ME, I can guarantee it will NOT be pretty.

Also, have YOU ever heard of punctuation? Your rambling post could have been written by a 6-year-old. You also cannot spell worth a crap!

if you people took the time to listen and get all your facts straight you would see it's not a scam nor are we trying to steal your info or money! your name is truely entered into an actually sweepstakes their are cash prizes to be won and trips, tv's ect.. But so we can be all clear the main purpose for the calls is to try and gain
subscribers people who enjoy reading magazines to subscribe to just one of our magazines.  in a sense to save them money by allowing them to recive 6-7 magazines of their choice for free or send them as gifts to friends and family members any where in the US. So buy one get 6/7 free. now a days at the market you spend 4.75 on a good magazine or pay 24 something to subscribe to one issue what we do is allow you to not only pay less of a cost but gain 7 more issues for yourself and the whold family throw some in for the kids why not it's free! you all get the oppurtunity to switch and change them anytime thru out ur service no magzine would ever let you do that like buy cosmo you will be stuck with cosmo you cant ever change it for elle during anytime of your service and with us you can as much as you want if you ever get board. And yes I can hear all of you now well why not just say that up front well two reasons one your name was entered in our sweepstakes and they are paid for by baks n credits company's so we are letting you know as a courtesy that in fact true. Second reason if I called you ad said hey you want to buy one magazine and get 6 free you all you would do is just hang up and say no not interested boom it's over. we would like to gain conversation to know you talk and be able to find some interest so we are able to sale you something like any normal sales person would. I AGREE WITH YOU ALL IN A WAY ABOUT US HANGING UP but really some of you are rude as hell and not all of you but just so you understand the second we hear an unsure hesitation in your voice as soon as that N comes out for no we are gone and I'm not saying that's Is right but we don't want to waste our time and sure as hell  don't want to waste any more of yours we move on. I have only been their so long and leaving them next week but I have been their long enough to know its not a scam it's just a different way of marketing to the public and having a few win big and others be able to save some money on magazines. I really hope this helps some of you understand and this in no way was not meant to upset or offend anyone I just wanted to be up front and let the truth be known. I can't speak for ever person that may have said any FU or any other foul mouth word that is sad to hear but as for myself I can say that I just say ok and hang up I never call you back I wouldn't waste my time I have a quota to meet so calling you back would no only waste my time but only prolong the goals I have to meet well one last thing I forgot if you don't give us an answer and just hang up or goes to voice mail we do call backs maybe not the same person but since the caller failed to respond we just try try again :) okay take care all !

I thought I should comment on this. I understand there are a lot of scams out there but how unfair to call this company a scam with out any proof. I don't see anyone who got ripped off leaving a comment on here. I got the same call last year. I did order magazines and I got exactly what I was promised. No money was ever taken without my permission and the service was excellent! I recieved my watch as promised. I did not with the drawing but a friend of mine won the car in the following drawing! Next time do ur homework before bad mouthing a company!

If you don't want to be mark as scam then maybe you should inform your company to have some sort of message on your voice mail. Duh!!!!! That would only make sense.

I just called this # dialed it from the # that appears on my cell.  The guy told me that is not his # and that i missed dialed cause his # is something different.  He has called me more than 1x.  When i asked whom i was calling he gave me several different business names  one was Honeywell.  I WANT HIM TO STOP CALLING!

Yes but the problem is, you are completely unprofessional when calling. Using profanity on the phone to your customers is not going to get you anywhere

Liar ,, or just naive to whats really goin on.. They called my house, asked for my wife and when i said she wasnt here they hung up on me.. Prior to this 3 hang ups. Not very professional..

Unless they tell you that they are calling with Publishers Headquarters with Empire Readers, which is a legitimate publishing company that distributes magazines and has for 39 years. Then they are lying to you. If they tell you about the giveaway, it is the truth. The lists come from cc companies of frequent users of visa or mastercard. The cc companies will not tell you that they sold your phone #, but it happens all the time and is in the "fine" print of your cc contract. Ya might want to read it. Nevertheless, Publishers Headquarters for Empire readers is a legitimate company. If you are getting bogus calls saying they are from Empire Readers, call Empire Readers at (888) 369-7323 and tell them who is calling you. If they are unwilling to give you their local number and a contact, they are not calling with Empire.

Today I received a SPAM text from +1 (310) 938-9781

This is what it said:

"Dear Homeowner, is your mortgage payment too high? Drop your rate to 4% with our national Loan Restructure program.  Text back "YES" for info. 877creditrelief.com"

I have already signed up on the Do Not Call List (which I do every year) and I called AT&T but they were unable to help me.

I'd love to report this so it doesn't happen to me again (or to anyone else) - isn't it bad enough that we get too much spam in our mail and e-mail???

Called two times while I was out, I returned call, they hung up on me, I called again, line busy, busy, busy, then on 5th attempt they would not answer.  All my return calls were within 5 minutes.

This woman called me today from 310-539-3355 said i was entered in a contest and she needed me to verify my address and then read me my address.  When i asked who she was she hung up on me. I reported the publishers headquarters to federal trade commission and attorny general.

we received 3 calls this evening, 2 of which were hang-ups the other asking for my husband by name, when i said that he was unavailable. can i take a message she hung up on me, when i immediately called back it went into a recorded voice saying "Hi it's Megan leave a message, I hung up.  When we tried to call back later it just kept ringing.  We will file a complaint tomorrow in the morning and involve our local police.  Thanks for everyones input!

I just got a call from 4242634972. She asked me for a bunch of info and said that I was a finalist in a contest sponsored by Visa and that I could win between $2,000 and $20,000. She also said that I would be receiving 60 months of free magazines. I asked her what company she was with and she responded that she was with Publisher Headquarters in California. I was sitting at my computer and immediately searched it. I told very nicely that I didn't want to offend her but everything online said they were a company just trying to get info and sell magazines and asked if she would explain to me what they do.... SHE IMMEDIATELY HUNG UP THE PHONE

I got this call just now, and i ended up giving my address.... after that they said they where going to send me a s**t load of mags from thing like, popular mechanic, heath and fitness and what not.  I said no no, i don't want that bull crap and they hung up.


has anyone gotten screwed over on this call?? or aynthing terrible? should i be cautious that i gave my new address?? they already had my old address (my parents house).

Call from M S Inc. 310-370-9781.  She asked for me and I asked who was callilng.  She hung up.

Same thing here, after I identified my self they hung up on me, I waited 15 minutes, called back from a  different number, and got a busy signal.....whats up with that?

You all are so very parinoid when it comes to telemarketing it kind of funny listing because I work for the company that you all our talking about we are a sweepstakes company and we also have a great magazine promotion.So nooooooooo we are not a scam.If you call the the number back of course its going to be busy we are dialing out to our customers.You guys are judging a book by its cover thats pretty sad and then your so quick to call us a scam and in reality you dont no  nothing about our company.by the way Ive talk to so many nice people all over who love to be in our sweep stakes but you all make our company look bad trying to give us a bad reputation.

Wow..i cant believe these accusations!  I am an employee for.the publishers headquarters which is a multi million dollar.company and isnt gettin there doors shut  for  ur credit card/bank.info..instead .of being paranoid and jumping to. conclusions why dont u take a moment to listen to the c.s.r._ our customers are referred to us by financial.instutions and we do show our appreciation to them with prizes,sweepstakes and a wonderful magazine promotion. of course for ur protection as well as our we provide u with a tracking Number! i am a satiasied employee especially speaking to our wonderful cuStomers !!!!!!

a young lady name christy and sherisha called me in guam on 02/11/10 and told me that I won something and ask me some question and enter me on their sweapstake to win 5000-50,0000 dollars,they said that I won magazines and two roundtrip ticket for me and my husband worth of 1600.00 dollars its ticket,they also ask my debitcard number and what bank,what kind of credit/bebit card I have.The telephone number they use is 391-310-6341,but when I call this number I can't get through.

i used to work for this company there just a telemarketer selling magizine subscriptions not a bad deal just a locked in deal for 1 or 2 years. they tell you u have been entered into a sweepstakes which is true and they just want to confirm the address wich they already have and then offer a special on a magizine subscription

It is not a scam, its just that people who are hired do not understand how to explain things correctly! i got a call from them and i was told the same thing, you are entered in a sweepstakes and along the process they are giving the total of 5 differ magazines of your choice for $4.99 a week for 48 months and u get 1 for free. i got transferred to a supervisor after spkn with the young lady and the supervisor was able to explain it more clear. i subscribed with them and i have nothing bad to say about them. my cc hasnt been misused or anything. i do agree they make u believe its scam they need to train their reps better before putting them on the phone. its a great deal!!!
