This number is definitely a scam. I got a call from this number demanding to see my computer remotely as it had viruses on it. It was an aggressive woman who sounded Nigerian.

Last night on Panorama there was a woman who had been fooled by that company into paying for anti virus software which was fake.

If you are called by that number put the phone down at once.

I have found in the UK that the police won't get involved unless there is a crime involved and shouting down the phone is not a crime...

To become a victim in the UK you have to do what the person tells you to do on your computer and when you have a caught their virus and lost data such as online banking details/ website sign-in details such as ebay hotmail ect... then you contact the police.

I have found this to be the case in many countries as the phone numbers they use are either copied from movies or tv shows or are made up using VOIP and can not be traced.

They have in the past cloned numbers so if you call it back you get some innocent person wondering why you have called them.

Also just a note if your daughter is under 18 check with your local police the rules are different for underage people.

Hopes this helps, I'm using information gained from other telecom operators and MS themselves.

Prank Call
I have posted before about this type of call when they have used different numbers.
First call on this number to my landline in the UK.

I see a lot of people who do not know that Microsoft do not know who you are...

Even if you use your real name, address and telephone number when registering a MS product such as Windows, Office ect... Microsoft still don't know what your computer is doing. The only way Microsoft will know who you are and what your computer is doing is when you contact them first and ask for tech help.

The best way of dealing with them I have found is to tie them up in knots...
I run a computer business and when my caller ID displays a number not in the UK format I answer it as my business.

I tell them I'm MS Certified and that I have several computers being fixed and that they are proberly giving out false positives readings.

The other way you can use is to say I don't have a computer or tell them you have a Apple MAC.

They will pyt down the phone before you do if you can convince them you won't be taken in by there scam, normally what happens is that they will list your number as one not to bother with cause they won't get anything from you.

They called us (GTA, Ontario, do not call list) again today.   Man with a strong Indian accent told our daugther that he called from Microsoft about reports that something was wrong with our computer.
Nothing is wrong with our computer and so she did not believe him.
When she started to ask questions, he was mad; he yelled at her calling names and telling what (xxxxxxx) he would do to her if he could.

Is there any way to get police interested in this?

just got a call from "Vertex" 310-599-9211, same scenario, except I said, "that's funny because I have an Ipad, they don't get virus'" The guy didn't know what to say, but I kept him on the line for a few moments, knowing immediately that this was a scam, I played dumb except to repeated ask who he was and where he was calling from. Stupid scammers! But what I am REALLY upset about is that someone apparently sold my home #!

You don't have to make number unlisted just block number. They released cell phones to telemarketers so you can go online and signup for no call list on cell phone, you can google to get the numbers.

They claimed that we had corrupt program files on our computer that would make it crach.  Wanted me to get into the WMI files and check for "Errors" or "Cautions."  From what I understand, these are the files that allow people to remotely control your computer in order to repair it. ( Plenty of those on that old computer.  Then he wanted me to give him remote assess to that computer.  Think not...Sounded like he was from India,m lots of background noise.  Same as the many other complaints.

I just go the same call from "windows" saying that my computer was sending a lot of error reports to them and they were going to walk me through fixing some errors on my computer.  It all sounded fishy so I said someone was at the door and to call me back.  That's how I ended up here.  Damn scammers.

They called us (in Ontario) today at about 2.55pm.  I answered: there was a long silence after which a female voice (NO accent) said: good bye.

Exactly the same happened about one hour earlier - at 1.40pm; There was also a silence and the same female voice said - good bye. However, that phonecall was made from 206-397-1126.

Weird.

Guy with thick thick Indian accent, poor English, said our Windows computer is infected with a terrible virus and they are associated with Microsoft and want to help me.  Bull Crap.  We don't even have a windows computer in the house.   A-holes.

Reporting them to FCC is a waste of time - they can't go after companies outside of the U.S.

These are scammers.  I'm on the DNC list and have reported this series of calls to the FTC.

The ID on the 1st call read VERTEX 310-559-9211, the caller sounded Indian and said that my windows computer had a problem.  I told him I'm on the do not all list and hung up, there are others this scammer has called -

http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-310-599-9211
http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/3105999211

The same guy called a few minutes later, but this time the phone displayed MGL BPO 213-333-2306 and I was told me would call me when ever he likes. Again I am no the only one he is calling -

http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/2133333206
http://www.spokeo.com/213-333-telemarketers

After I hung up, he called yet one more time, this time the phone displayed TACCESS 206-397-1126.  And yet again I'm not the only one getting calls from these scammers -

Called yesterday morning, a woman with a thick Indian accent. Same as the other calls on here that I was having problems, pop-ups, etc with my windows computer. When I asked her where they were getting this information from she said "investigators". When she wanted me to go to my computer I told her no and hung up. Too bad some people might be taken in by this scam.

I got a couple of calls from Vertex but didn't answer the phone.  I found this website and was looking at the info here when they called me back again.  I thought I would have some fun with them, and I  told them the police already knew about my computer problems. The person couldn't even tell I was joking  and didn't even seem to know what I was telling him; he was determined to continue on with his spiel.  I finally just told them not to call me back and hung up.

Caller ID showed caller to be Vertex.   Same computer skam as listed by others.  I tried to mess with them, including threatening to call Better Business Bureau, they said go ahead and call the police before they hung up.  Thick accent, couldn't guess origin.   Does anyone know of software that could be used to robo-call these types of numbers repeatedly?

Received a message said Windows sent message that my computer was having problems.Ater talking for a while so that I could get to understand him(Asian accent) I was able to get from him that my IBM running windows was having real problems.I told him that was strange cause I was running an Apple with Linux.Kept him talking for a while and then informed him why.I told him I was getting a fix on him with my GPS and the RCMP was tracing his number so we could pin his skinny a** to the wall.I asked for a Canadian supervisor, which is my right and they have to comply.Of course he wouldn't agree to this so being a mechanic in the trucking industry for 40 years,I burned his ears with every word I could think of to describe his heritage and I even made up a few
To top it all off I left the phone off the hook for 45 minutes and then asked him if he was done.He said I had not given him permission to do anything. After another 7 minutes of ancestory description(trucker style) he said he didn't think he could help me.I said his next call would be Interpol or RCMP----Have not been bothered since

***BEWARE OF VORTEX OR VERTEX***
***THEY ARE COMPUTER & SMART PHONE HACKERS***
One of many numbers are (310) 699-1931
They hacked in my phone ( I have no computer) and they got ahold of my credit card number ( through me signing into my Capital One online account) and have been putting charges on my credit card ( 2 in 1 day)
1 for &39.95 the other for $49.95! I am currently having problems with Capital One because I noticed the charges while they were still in the "hold" phase and they said they would take care of it. They closed out my old card and sent me a new card but, when I called to activate the new card, I asked about the charges and Capital One acted as if i hadn't notified them at all about the charges? They lied to me and let the charges go through after they told me that they were going to void the hold(s)!  Both charges came through as vertex and vortex!! It's made my life hell! I reset my phone, and all passwords and SOON after, received a text to call the above # then another text w/ link saying I won $1000 gift card!

I have seen VERTEX and the number (310) 599-9211 on my caller ID before, but today they called just as I was coming in and I picked up. Just as many others say, it was a man with a very thick Indian accent calling himself "Michael." He gave the spiel about how he knew my Windows PC was spilling poison all over the Web or something, but he would show me how to fix it. He was very hard to understand and was clearly calling from a boiler-room type of setup, lots of background noise. I finally got through to him that I use an iMac, not Windows, and "Michael" weakly said, "oh . . . OK, take care" and hung up quick. He wasn't rude or insulting, just lying through his teeth. I hope the fact that I spoke with him does NOT mean they think I'm a target now. One time listening to this baloney is plenty.
