Yeah, same thing just happened to me. I was at a car dealership all day and gave out my phone number a bunch which leads me to believe they got it through that somehow. Nothing like that has happened before today. I'll call verizon tomorrow and see what they have to say, but something tells me they'll probably say the same thing.

I have been getting these same texts, one before 7AM this morning! I am reporting all unsolicited texts to the FCC. This is ridiculous!
Jody 2011-06-06 20:45:24 Unknown
I'm getting texts for stupid ads for bars in my area to watch football and first drink is free by showing the text. This is the second one I've received.

I just got a text asking if my mortgage was too high, I don't even own a home! I texted back and asked how they got my number, and haven't gotten an answer. Where is the number from anyway?

Same call re debit collection & party at OC fairgrounds, previously replied via text to request removal from their database. BIG MISTAKE! Now they text on my hospital emergency phone number putting real patients at risk. Will report today to FCC and government agencies.

Same message about "Orange County's best Halloween party this Saturday at the OC Fairgrounds". This is the second text I have received with this subject, but gee, go figure that the first text was from a different number.
Nunya 2011-06-06 20:45:24 Unknown
Same exact message about the Halloween party for last two days in a row. Made FCC report both times and will do it every single time. THIS IS NOT RIGHT!
djsera 2011-06-06 20:45:24 Unknown
I just received the same message about the Halloween party.
melanie 2011-06-06 20:45:24 Unknown
Who gave them permission to send me txt? Orange County's best Halloween party this Saturday at the OC Fairgrounds, from the creators of the legendary Atrium Hotel. This is So Cal's only 21+ mega event.
Melanie 2011-06-06 20:45:24 Unknown
I have received those text message before but always deleted them. I did however get one today, "Orange County's best Halloween Party this Saturday at the OC Fairgrounds, from the creators of the legendary Atrium Hotel. This is So. Cal's only 21+ mega event." I would consider that to be legitimate. There is a National Do not call list for Cell Phones. I don't know the website address though.

The message that came to me was:
Orange County's best Halloween party this Saturday at the OC Fairgrounds, from the creators of the legendary Atrium Hotel. This is So Cal's only 21+ mega event.
I have no idea who this is, but the phone number that came up on caller id was: 1 (310) 694-1413.

I got a text message to my cell phone from this number.
"Is your credit card debt $10,000 or more? Our debt relief program can lower your payments immediately. May we please give you a call?"
This call was made at 9:37 AM (Eastern Standard Time) on 10/20/09
I tried to call the number, but SURPRISE, I get the greeting of "I'm sorry, but the person that you have called has a voice mailbox that has not been set-up yet." Hmmmmm, imagine that! It was just what I expected.
I am guessing that this is someone trying to phish for info.
I called AT&T Wireless and told them about the text message. They did not have a fair solution for me. (BAD AT&T!!!!!!) They said that if the number came from a company and was a different amount of digits in the phone number, they could do something about it, but because it came from a regular 10 digit phone number, they could not do anything. Now they did offer to let me subscribe to an addition service that would allow me to block the number, but yea right!!! Why should I have to pay every month for someone else's wrong doings? I told them that I thought that this was an unfair solution. He agreed with me and stated that he would mention the situation to his manager. Well, at least its something. I doubt that it will go any further though.

You can file a complaint for unsolicited advertising text messages with the FCC (FCC Form 1088) at https://esupport.fcc.gov/form1088/1088gform.do
You can attach a screen shot of the text message you received.

I have my cell phone registered on the "Do Not Call" website (http://www.donotcall.gov). I have registered a complaint against this phone number twice in the past 3 months.
I will also file a complaint on the fcc website listed above.
Everybody has to complain in order to get something done about these intrusions!
I also recommend complaining to your politicians. LOUD and OFTEN! If they get tired of us pestering them, they'll stop those who harrass us.

Is your mortgage payment too high? Our program can lower your high payments immediately. Would you like to learn more about this? (text message)
Anonymous 2009-10-28 17:46:45 Unknown
I received three: from (310) 694-1413, (213) 309-1582 and (310) 721-3876. I submitted a complaint to the donotcall.gov website. According to the OC Fairgrounds, the company promoting the party (and in charge of advertising and marketing) is OWL Enterprises, www.owlus.com, (714) 658-1033 or (800) 893-9932. (Ironically, they do not accept calls from blocked numbers.) They have not returned my voicemail asking them to confirm that they have removed me from their list. You can also contact the creator of the Facebook page promoting the party, Owen Gonzales, on Facebook.
