Received text message on the Sprint network. Message was from 9099 and said customer issue, visa service frozen. please call at 310 822 5255.  I called number, they wanted me to enter sixteen digit account number, but provided no identification.  Do not enter your account number!

says from my bank and has limited my debit card and to call to reactivate.

I've been getting texts from this # and a bunch of other ones saying all this account bs stuff for months, I don't know how to get them to stop!  It's alot of diff #'s.  My cell carrier said to type "STOP" and text them, but the texts won't go thru!

I also got one of these on Christmas evening.   I'm a Sprint customer with my text messages blocked from everyone except Sprint.  Hmnmm... they say I haven't been billed for it and that they are "working on it".

here's the #s the texts said to call: 313-843-9546 & 303-325-7300. Maybe we should contact Ma Bell and get those #s shutdown.

got one of these a few days ago about Visa, today I got one for AMEX. I'm smart enough to know better than to enter a card #... but that doesn't mean law enforcement shouldn't be going after them. 9099 is a short code # that is used by more than one entity -- you can "rent" such a service for ~$10 / month. Replying to that text will go into an empty void. Does anyone know how to find out who administers that shortcode?

I have received texts from "9099" before with the message that my Sprint bill was due and that I should pay online or by phone, but I've never been instructed to call anyone before. I'm thankful that I didn't call the number!

I got about 5 texts from this # the phone number changed yesterday, total scam, called the bank, they knew about it but did not want any of the info i have

If you've incurred charges because of this event you should report it immediately to your Visa company; hopefully they will reimburse you as this is fraud. Good Luck!

I just got the same thing a bit ago.  The same 313 number.  To stop txt mssgs you have to reply stop to them, though sprint themselves send out via the 9099 user.

same message about visa frozen.. my husband just got one test on his Sprint phone from 313-843-9546... goes back to an actual persons listing..

Got the same message. Sprint said to text "block 9099" to 9999. I got a message from sprint saying it had been blocked, but it did not work.

My husband got a text on his work cellphone. Said his boss got the same text and tried calling the number, only to get a recorded message that it was a SCAM - hopefully they got busted!!

Got the same text message as everyone got. And luckily googled for that number to realize most of them had the same issue.  Was wondering if it has happened only to sprint customers or other carriers as well.

Text came in similar to above saying visa was cancelled. Ignored it but reported it here.

Must be an inside job at Sprint because texting is blocked on my phones but that text made it thru on both of them.  Bet they bill me for them too. Bet I don't pay for them.

I've got the same situation.  No VISA account, I'm nowhere near a 310 area code nor is the HQ for my banks.  I'll be reporting this to sprint.  Glad we have this resource now... Makes it easier to determine if something might be spam.

I work for a card company. We have gotten several calls about this today. Definitely call your credit card number and either place a temporary block or block your account number down and have them issue a new one. Definitely a scam!

I got a text from 9099 at 2:55 p.m. Central time on Saturday, 12/5/09.  Message was "customer issue. visa service frozen. please call at 716 404 2543"

Must be a scam because my bank communicates with me via email or my landline; they don't have my cell #.

by all means, call your credit card company immediately! They will help you with your options.

just got a text from 310 882 5255 telling me my visa account was frozen..my visa account doesnt even have my cell number listed as a contact, and wouldnt be texting me anyway..dont call it dont give your account number, total scam
