Never mind.  Creditreport.com is a 7-day trial, then a $14.95/month billing service for credit monitoring.  If you've used it in the past to get a trial, any re-use starts up a re-billing cycle.

Also got the same email but without the phone # from "Terry Long" for a warehouse worker spot.

I don't know if they actually would get the credit report as well, but it's definitely an affiliate link - that site would usually get you signed up into a monthly "credit monitoring" service which you would need to cancel manually by calling a # (usually not hard to do, but I didn't see anything mentioning a 30-day FREE trial, so it's going to likely run you 20-30 out of pocket for that first month if so).

I gave out my cell phone, so I'll see if I get any calls out of this #.  Worst case I can block it.

I'll respond though and see what he "says" or where the interview might be for kicks...if they do...

i'm done looking for jobs on craigslist.  This is the 2nd time some one has tried to scam me.   The 1st time the job was for a secret shopper position, the "company" mailed me a check for $300 and I was supposed to report back to them about the customer service at a business where you wire money to people.  i was supposed to wire them back 1/2 the money, and keep the other 150 as my payment...

after googling that company i found out that the bank would find out theres no such company and the 300 bucks would come out of my own checking account..

Heres my Terry Long response, for a job in Cedar Rapids, IA:

Hello,

Thank  you  for your interest in the job opening. We just received your email and I'd like to meet up with you for an informal interview. I just need you to bring your license, a printed credit report from the link provided below and a printed resume.  Get everything prepared and get back in touch with me.  Looking forward to hearing back from you.

I just received the same type of email for a position I applied for and am SO glad I Googled Jason Davis Craigs List to see all the bad reports on him. The email he sent me was:
Thank you for the interested in the job opening.  When would you be able to come in for an informal interview?  If you have a printed resume available can you please have that ready, a printed credit report (I have provided a link below) and a valid driver's license or photo ID.  When you have everything prepared get in touch with me with a date when you would be able to come in. (link was here)
This was for a graphics designer/prepress/mail data tech person in Ctrl MN. I did not click the link.

I hope nothing comes of this.  I sent a resume with my phone number, date of birth, and address.  Also, I filled out the credit report.  I started looking for the alias Terry Long to figure out what company he/she worked for, and I stumbled accross this site.  I am very nervous and I hope he/she can not obtain any information I have filled out.  Please arn EVERYONE about this person.  The ad was pn Pittsburgh Craigslist for a warehouse worker.

Their still at it again. I got the same message too. From Jason Davis for a Construction Laborer job. Seattle area. I did not call nor did I get a call, but I decided to google his cell number, because I never heard of a (312) area code around here, and I found this site. Good thing to find out, I got suspicious from them asking a credit report. Did research and people say the company gets the consumer report themselves and/or gets it After an interview. I will post an ad up on Craigslist warning others about Json/Terry. Some people. Be careful out there.

Here's their ad on CL: Don't even e-mail them or even click on their link to their credit report site.

Just wanted to add that I decided to write back to "Terry" and let him know that I found out that he is scamming people. It may not accomplish anything, but I felt the need to speak the truth to him, anyway. Here is my reply:

Terry, or whatever your real name is, I just found out that you and your organization are scamming people. So what is the deal? Are you stealing applicant's personal info when they fill out the form on the "free credit report" link you provide, then using it for identity fraud? Or do you get paid to send people to that link?

It's a very tough job market out there, as I'm sure you know. A lot of people are hurting financially. I know because I am one. It is very sad and despicable for you and your co-conspirators to build up job applicants' hope, pretending that your company may be interested in hiring them.

Only a bunch of low-life creeps would prey on people the way you guys are doing. Join the rest of us, "Terry" or whatever your real name is...get out and get a REAL job making honest money!!

I applied for a job posting on craigslist houston and received a reply from Terry Long of Mailstoday.com..."Terry's" reply used the same wording that appears in the replies that others have posted here....It is an obvious scam to be avoided...Don't know if they steal your personal info if you fall for their "free credit report" link, or if they get paid to send people to that link...Either way, the only job it's about is a screw job....

Here is "Terry Long's" reply to me:

Hi  again  I  am  ready  to  meet  up when you are.  Have you gathered
everything   we  need  to  proceed?   Drivers  license,  credit report
bestshortlink.com/c5yav and if possible a printed resume.  Hope to hear from you soon.

I got a reply like the same.
I found this site by googling the phone number.
Most recruiters brag about who they work for, this has no such thing.
Also sent from a criagslist email address.

It's a scam.

I traced the email, via showing headers, and it traced to Houston, Texas.
IP address sent from 174.120.188.98.

I'm an amateur so this could all be wrong.
The linked website could have a nasty cookie embedded in the website, so careful following the link.
