If I am right, I think they are targeting parents whose kids are born from 1996-1997 in the tristate area!

BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE!!!!!!!!I FELL FOR IT ON NOV. 28th 20011.  My daughter answered the phone and said to me, "mom, they want to talk to (my other daughters name, mom) i said hello, and they tell me my daughter was interested in improving her academic skills, from (the name of her high school), shes in the ninth grade. they even knew the street i lived on. told me how they have been helping kids improve their skill up  a whole point. since my daughter went to a college fair not more than 2 weeks prior, i was not that skeptical.  Still I told them i would call them back to talk with her.  almost instantly because i knew she is serious about college, i thought it would make a nice xmas present for $199.00.  No they did not mention there was also a fee of $54.95 a month for God only know why, because they said everything was included. when it arrived, i was debating ti hold on to it until xmas.  But somehow the cat was out of the bag, and 2 weeks passed.  her knowing of it, and had (not so much interest), i decided to return it. i called and got my roa number or whatever it was, and someone immediately called me back with all the reasons why i shouldn't cancel.  i did anyway, and within 2 weeks after i canceled, and expected a refund they used my credit / bank card to charge me $54.95.  NEVERTHELESS.... BIG SCAM.  called the bank,,,, had to stop all transactions and will no use of my card for 2n weeks until im issued a new one.

Company is Academic Prep Center - They will attempt to engage you into "trying out" the PSAT, SAT, ACT learning package for a meager $10.00.  Should you not return it within 30 days and don't improve on your test the fee is $59.00.  Should you wish to keep the package it is $199.00.  This is all untrue as you will immediately be charged the $199.00 as soon as you order the product and there is no chance of returning said item as they will not take your call or give you a "return authorization code" when you finally do get through.  I ordered the product in November for my child, attempted to return it within the 30 days with not success.  The product actually caused her to score lower on her SAT.  I have been trying to return this thing ever since and have put it into dispute on the VISA card.  I can only guess that someone involved with the school or SAT organization gave these bums our telephone number.  If they call you just tell them there is no child in your household and maybe they will leave you alone.

Just a quick update.  I sent the email I posted above on the 15th of December, and have not received a reply; nor have I received any further calls from this company.

It is very easy to obtain everything you need on your own - test study materials, financial aid applications, scholarship and grant information, college information - you do not NEED this or any other "assistance" organization to help you!  That's just money wasted, in my opinion.  With the power of the Internet, you can get on any number of sites or forums and obtain everything you need without having to spend a DIME (beyond your Internet service fee, of course LOL).  Whether for yourself or one of your children, college is not going to be cheap; why pay unnecessary fees on top of tuition, books, room/board, and everything else?

they apparently get a list of kids names from schools or something because they called and told me that recently my son (who they didn't know was only 13 yrs old) took the Pre-SAT at school and checked the box that said he was interested in receiving training materials.  Number one, my kid is a brain, so that isn't unlikely that he would have taken and requested the test materials, but Number Two, we live in a very rural school district with  mostly people who are blue collar workers so the odds that the school even gave this test is pretty slim.  I am going to bet that the Academic Prep Center gets their lists from somewhere because when I said to the guy on the phone, "They gave a 13 year old an SAT test??" he said, "Oh, he's 13? Sometimes they screw these lists up." then he hung up on me...

Just taking a stab in the dark here but i think they are trying to sell you a fake SAT study guide that you can buy at the local bookstore...

called my parents home and asked to speak with the parents of my daughter (by her name).  when my father responded that they reached her grandparents, they hung up.  since i haven't lived there since she was five and she is now 14 - i can only imagine they are using a list of kids who were born in 1996-1997 that includes contact information from when they were born.  you know - like those same lists that sent me all the formula coupons and infant life insurance after she was born.....

I got a call from this number, identified as Steve from Acedemic Pre Center, asking if my son plan to go to college after high school. I asked him back how he got my number. He said I must be sign up with their company on-line or during college affair in school. I said I don't remember I sign up anything. He started telling me his web site in very quick tone then hang up.  I don't think it was legitimate. So I check on here, it seems my suspicion was right.

Well, I do have a child who just started high school, but she's not done ANYTHING to warrant this type of company to contact her.  I suspect they're calling because of me, because I just started community college this semester (after being away for twenty years).  They can just STOP NOW - I have no desire to deal with them or any company like them, I'm perfectly happy with my Pell Grant and my straight A's in five classes.  Off to send them a nasty...er, NICE...little email requesting that they cease and desist.  This is what I wrote:

"You are calling the below-referenced phone number several times a day.  I neither need nor want your services; nor do any of my children have need of your services.  This email is to serve as notice that you are to immediately cease and desist in any and all contact.  We are on the Federal Do Not Call list and have been for some time, and have NO business relationship with you; therefore, any future contact will be in violation of the DNC and will be handled accordingly.  Thank you."

APC is simply a reincarnation of the Smart Education Foundation.  Don't trust 'em with anything.  They've scammed countless thousands of dollars from unbeknownst parents...AND THEIR OWN EMPLOYEES.  Academic Prep Center name was adopted after they got in a huge row with the Illinois Dept of Labor as SEF...

Got a call today. She goes into her routine telling me that my son had expressed interest in this info through his school, blah, blah, blah.  I interrupted her and said, "I doubt that because my son has been homeschooled for several years."  CLICK! She hangs up on me!  I'd sure like to know where they got our info from since it apparently wasn't from school. Trying to figure out who to complain to.

This number called and asked for my son and terribly mispronounced our name which instantly alerts me that this was a telemarketer.  I said he was at school and asked who this was - the man proceeded to say I was going to ask for his mom or dad and I asked again - and the man hung up.  My son is only 16 and do not appreciate calls for him during school hours by people who will not identify themselves and are only trying to sell us something.

Received a call from 312.447-5900, the Academic Prep Center stating that my son (whom they named) expressed interest in obtaining help with SAT tests.  Although it is never too early to prepare, I thought it a bit strange since he is in the ninth grade.  I promptly told them no and hung up.  Do not fall for their marketing, it is appears very nebulous to say the least.  They want $395.00 for the prep DVD and it looks like they also charge $54,95 a month.  Dubious value!

and SAT testing.  It also has scholarship info., College tour info.  and other website preparations.
I've tried calling this phone humber back, and all I get is a voice mail.  But before I made the purchase
I said I wanted to call this phone number back to see if they were legitimate.  When I called back they
had someone answer on the first ring.  Since I've been trying to call them back to cancel this purchse all I get is a voicemail.  They have my credit card

I've received three calls from this number in the past few weeks.  Each time they asked to speak to "Olivia's mother or father."  I tell them every time they have the wrong number and that, because I work nights, they are waking me up.  They keep saying they won't call back, but they do.

I agree - this is a scam.  I've tried to call them back to cancel and it continuously goes to a voicemailbox.  I left a message and happened to get a return call yet the phone # they left "cut out" when stating the tail end of the phone number.  I called my credit card company to dispute all charges and stop all future charges, plus sent back what did get delivered via certified mail to confirm per credit card company.

I got the call saying my son (9th grade) had interest in improving his ACT scores and I asked when did he do that and they said it could have been possibly online or during a college fair.  I turned around and proceeded to asked my son if he signed up for anything and they hung up on me.

My solution then next time I see a # I don't recognize, a VERY LOUD whistle into the phone.  Bet that will keep their ears ringing for a while.
