Person with accent keeps calling stating he's calling from The National Fraud Prevention Center, provides a case # and states that a bench warrant has been issued against me for fraud. He stated that I had not paid my taxes. When I stated that the IRS has not contacted me he says they are bigger than the IRS. When I asked for more information he hung up on me, but keeps calling my home. I've refused to answer the calls but he's left a message on my answering machine and keeps calling me. The number he's calling me from is (202-241-7693 Washington,DC)

A local # called stating they were the Philadelphia police called telling me to cooperate which puzzled me. I was getting nervous it wasn't till I spoke to them again and the man officer jimmy brown stated I could pay using gift cards I purchased at cvs. I then knew it was a scam. Thanks for posting your stories

I am so upset this company just contacted me and told me that i have three counts of fraud filed against me. And i need to make a four hundred dollar payment today, or they were going to arrest me. I called them back told them that i reported them to the BBB, and the FBI where i reside. The man said thank you have a good day. Just awful that people could harass people like this, and get away with it.

Tonight about 7:30 pm  I got a telephone call from the number 1-443- 602-8849, just as you did, saying the very same thing, threatening the very same thing. I only wish I could find these a***s. My husband is going to call the number tomorrow, and if they answer, he will tell them he is the US Marshall, and he will find them, and have  them arrested. You don't think this will happen to you. And they all had Foreign accents also.

I got two very similar phone calls from this number 443-602-8849 The National Fraud Prevention Center  stating that I was in legal trouble due to committing tax fraud. I was told that warrants were going to issued for my arrest. The "gentleman" on the other end demanded to know how I was going to resolve this issue and told me I had 15 minutes to give him an answer or the local authorities would be notified. I hung up on him. A few hours later, I got another phone call from a local number from someone stating that he was with the Kennesaw Police Dept ( I have a Kennesaw address but do not live within the city limits or under the KCPD jurisdiction... Huge red flag)

The "police officer" stated he had warrents for my arrest and then made a 3 way conference call to connect me to The National Fraud Prevention Center. Once again I was confronted with the same "gentleman" from before telling me that I HAD to pay this debt immediately or " they would take me down." I was threatened with 46 months jail time, that the IRS would come take my belongings, sell them off to satisfy this debt. When I demanded copies of the warrents, proof of their case against me etc.... The person on the other end threatened me saying that this call was recorded and this would be used against me in court.

Being a Critical Care RN for nearly 20 years, I have a rather refined BS detector. These calls reeked of manure. But I was in the mood to have fun, so I demanded his name, the name of the judge that signed off on my so called arrest warrents, the police officers badge number etc.... They hung up on me. However, because they were impersonating being part of the IRS, I called the IRS today, told them what happened and gave them the telephone numbers that appeared on my caller ID. I hope they have fun with the IRS.

My husband actually got a call that stated that I needed to call a Mr. John Harris at 312.489.8133.  That I was about to prosecuted as well as arrested if I didn't contact him.  Well I called him and he gave me the run around and read a supposed affidavit stating my "crime".  I was actually stupid enough o believe that it was legitimate and sent them money.  I then got a call and he stated that I needed to make bi-weekly payments.  I looked them up today and found out all of the above complaints.  Something is not right!!  I actually got 52 calls from them in a twenty minute time frame!!  I don't think the department of justice is that unprofessional!!!

I just got a call from a so called state policeman stating the same thing -that I had 3 FEDERAL warrants issued agains me by the DOJ.  With all the mess going on in the govt right now, it really worried me.  The man had a very thick accent, and after working for the state for over 22 yrs, I know very few state police that have thick foreign accents.  And I worked closely with the state  police.  He gave me a phone # which rang a bell with me. And I was given a case #.  When I started asking for the "officer's" first name and other info, I was hung up on .  Then I googles the phone # and came up with this.  My next step is to report these people to the BBB.  It is totally unethical to conduct business this way.  I know that I don't have any charges, as I just had a background check run, as I was cleared for housing. I feel much better after reading all the posts on this scam.

My first call came from 1-911 and they said they were from the Department of Justice and I needed to call 1-312-489-8133 and speak to Captain John Harris ID#32BI He kept telling me I was being prosecuted federally and needed to get a Federal Lawyer. I finally hung up on him, he called me back stating he was sending the police. He would not give me any proof of who he was.

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

ABC News released an investigative report on this scam a year ago:

I just received a call from this number 312-489-8133 saying they are from the fraud prevention center and if I did not return the call there is going to be a warrant for my arrest. The guy said his name is John Harris but could not speak very good English but wanted me to give my name and some claim number. I am going to report this incident to the police department because I am not sure what type of scam this could be.

I have received this same phone call. At first they called from a
Police department that is about 2 hours away from where I live.
They left a voicemail staying that I needed to call and
Settle a dispute against me. The number the voicemail was left
From was in New Mexico but they wanted me to call A
an Illinois number. I asked the man if he was with the department of justice
What his badge number, he stated that he doesn't have one due to
Being a federal employee. All federal agents have badge numbers.
This is definitely a scam and I have reported it to my local police
Department.

Got a call telling me there was an arrest warrant issued for me by the Federal Dept of Justice.  Even gave me a "file #". When I asked for his name he gave me a name but refused to give me a phone number where I could check his credentials.  Google the number and thanks to John listing his call I'm not too worried.  Made a threat of being arrested. I checked on line for any such warrant.  None exists.  I don't believe they have an account from anyone with my name.
