To anyone just reading into all of this please note that these people are scammers, if you received a phone call fro them pry them for their info... Their address that they give is to the OAG in Chicago. Also as you can guess it is not their address. I have called the SOS in Chicago, IL and gave them all the info. I have also called the OAG for IL and my home state. I have also informed the FTC of the callers. I did research on the phone number and it is a VoIP which is a voice operated IP address... This means that they are calling you from an online software program which means they think they can not be traced. News to them all VoIP are traceable even if they go through multiple towers to get to your phone. IF YOU GET A CALL FROM THEM CALL THE OAG, FTC & YOUR LOCAL GOVERNING AUTHORITIES to FILE AGAINS THEM. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MONEY.

Same think has happend to me. They almost got away with it. At first I was talking to a Chris Walker and then he says that there is an attorney who wants to speak with me which is Rosa Gilbert. When I refused her she tried to get smart and say that I will be picked up tomorrow at my home or work place all because I did not want to pay 1, 000 for a court cost to which I dont even know about. So if you reach a Rosa Gilbert or Chris Walker and that ask you to pay will a prepaid. Greendot pay pak or a Vinilla net prepaid card. DON'T DO IT!

I got a call from them today 8/8/13 while I am @ work. They talking about I got a loan and I need to pay 600.00 or I will be served with an arrest warrant @ work or home. Then he goes to say if that happens you will be entitled to pay 9,000.00. He couldn't give me an exact amount on the loan or when it was supposedly taken out. I am so pissed! I'm like do what you got to do because I have not taken out any loans.

I think the vernacular in legal terminology is "sewer service."

Check it out.  It's a compelling read.
http://web.archive.org/web/20101117070043/htt ... /apr14a_09.html

Attorney General Cuomo in New York filed criminal charges some time ago "against Long Island-based American Legal Process (?ALP?) and its CEO and President William Singler for a fraudulent business scheme in which the company allegedly failed to provide proper legal notification to thousands of New Yorkers facing debt-related lawsuits, causing them unknowingly to default and have costly judgments entered against them without the chance to respond or defend themselves."

Also, "Cuomo announced his intent to sue one of ALP?s largest customers, the law firm of Forster & Garbus, for violations of New York State?s consumer protection laws. According to Cuomo, Forster & Garbus used ALP to serve over 28,000 summons and complaints across the state, but failed to supervise the company and relied on legal papers from ALP that it knew or should have known were false."

JUST FYI to anyone needing to know. The address that these people provide is to the US Attorney's office. And don't let them tell you that their address is 219 S Dearborn Street, Chicago, IL. This is not their office. If you google this address it belongs to the Attorneys office. I also called a true Law office on this street and they had never heard of Baker & Sims. If this helps anyone.

This is without a doubt a SCAM. However I fell for it... Shame on me. But in order to protect the ones that I love I did what was asked of me without research b/c I to once had a loan but I found it strange that these people wanted a Greendot pay pak which is not refundable in case of a fraudulent charge. They use this as a way to get money from people who work hard for their money so they dot have to. If anyone receives a phone call fro them get their address physical and mailing research it before you hang up. If you get it post it. Also go online to FTC and file a complaint. If they get enough complaints on these people they will have to do something... I am looking to get these people one way or another even if I have to exhaust every option I have. I will call them non stop busy signal or not until I get y money back. This money they say you owe is only part of it. Once you pay they continue to request more money. And threatening a new mother with jail time is unacceptable. I will make sure every person I can tell this to knows that these people are doing this and they will continue as long as they are free from our prison system. THEY ARE NOT LAWYERS or a LAWFIRM. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANYTHING. Request for proof of paperwork to be mailed to you. They will not give you a confirmation number nor d they email you. once they have your money they hang up on you.

2. As "A Debt Expert and Counselor" stated you can't go to jail. Debt Prisons have been abolished since the 1850's.

In conclusion, I agree with user ShillKill "You are a liar and a fraud"

Very good points you have added to the discuss.  I would also suggest those called find the website for "Clerk of Courts" office in their local county.  Many have a free "case inquiry" or "case look up" system.  They can search under "civil" or "small claims" court for their name being listed as a "defendant"

Just one additional cautionary point.  If you fail to show up for a court date the court will enter a default judgement against you in favor of the collection agency.  Their next step is to file for a wage or bank account garnishment with the courts.  Some (many?) of these shady agencies use "shadow service"  meaning they claim to the court that you were served when in fact you were not. There are reports of numerous cases in NY where the first people ever heard about any court action with respect to their debt is when their employer notified them of the garnishment.  It would pay for those who have been threatened with a lawsuit to verify with their local court system how service of a court summons is handled to avoid becoming the victim of a "shadow summons".

What part of "You CANNOT be arrested for a debt" are people not getting here? The laws on debts in the US & Canada are VERY specific. Read over the laws of what debt collectors can/cannot do (not that they all follow it), & remember - you MUST go to court for a debt collector to have ANY judgement against you. As well, court dates are a matter of public record. If you get a call (from these fakers) & they say you have a court date (not that these frauds will send you anything) check your City, State, Province web sites. In court you can contest the debt, & the collection agency must prove the debt. As well, even if you do owe (a REAL debt) you can get the Judge to arrange a settlement & payments. It's not black & white. If you see ANY comments on 800 notes from ANYONE who says they were arrested over a debt - IT. . . IS. . . A. . . LIE!

You are a liar and probably are one of these scammer yourself!  Shame on you!

We do not have Debtors Prisons in the USA.  Even IF you owe a legitimate debt, there are very specific processes legal debt collectors MUST go thru to collect.  Even then, if you don't pay, unpaid debts are a CIVIL matter and NOT a CRIMINAL matter.  You CAN NOT be arrested for not paying a debt - even a legal one.  The worst that can happen is the people that you owe money too can file a claim in civil court.

And since most State's have laws on online and payday loans, and even license and regulate lenders, you will find that many of these online and payday loan companies are NOT licensed in your State and are thereby operating ILLEGALLY.  Many of them are not even in this country (hence the Hindi accent)!!!  Guess what - ILLEGAL LOAN = INVALID LOAN.  You owe them nothing, it is null and void.

Crawl back in the hole you came from and stop trying to scare good, honest, hardworking people, Sandra (or Sanjay or Sandhi or whatever your real name is).
