IT SEEMS LIKE A SCAM  IT NEEDS TO BE REPORTED

I also received a call asking for a donation. Claiming this is a rough time for the Chicago Cook County. This needs to be reported

Angela called and asked for me by name and I said i wasnt there.  She said she would call back

when i answered an autobot said 'Please hold for the next available agent'.  I waited about 30 secs of dead silence before hanging up.  whoever it is did not call back.

There are some callers who are exempt from Do Not Call List, including charities, surveys, and political.  However, if you tell them to put you on their own do not call list (note the date and time) AND then they call you again, you CAN report them to http://www.donotcall.gov.

This page about phone scams provides excellent information on how to tell if you're receiving a call from a legitimate charity.  In case you answer the phone from this number in the future, check out the above link.  Don't give out your credit card information without checking them out first.  

For example, you could ask the caller:
"Are you calling on behalf of a charity?"
"What is the name of your organization?"
"Can you point me to a website or another resource for more information about your organization?"
"Can you mail me more information about the charity and how it works?"
"Can you give me a receipt showing the amount of my contribution and stating that it is tax deductible?"

Do not fall for high-pressure sales tactics.  If they are pushy or uncooperative, then hang up and don't speak with them again.  Just because they SAY they're raising money for police, or fire, or military organizations doesn't necessarily mean that they really are doing so.

Just like the others, this number called me and left no message.  Other sites have said that it might be related to policemen or firemen fund-raising.  If so, I have no idea whether or not this is a legitimate charity.

Calls come up Cook County, IL, when answered nobody speaks. Any idea who this is??

I too have received repeated calls, answer, no response and then a busy signal. I too wonder why.

shows up as cook county il call. it's a foundation related to fire/police looking for donations. they call almost every day but don't leave a message.
