Kathy, From a current Medallion employee...I'm sorry. With the kind of job that we do its hard to keep employees. Therefore most of the workers are somewhat "new" and have had little training. Like others have said, ask to be put on the do not call list FOR ALL CHARITIES that we call for. There are a lot of them! And hope your talking with someone who actually knows how to work the job. Good luck!

Seriously, you people need to stop calling. I'm busy working and I don't have the time to play your stupid games, calling pretnding your calling from a different company, and acting all vague when I ask for details. I can fricken tell your calling from a telemarketing service when I can hear noise in the background and you refuse to tell me why you're calling. I'm not stupid. All it takes is a google search. So stop calling! We have work to do! You're just pissing us off into not donating to anything ever!

I started working for a company this week that goes through medallion, i hate it but i need the job, i know the call are an annoyance but believe it or not some of the help we had someone donate $5000 today on just one call, if you dnt want them calling just tell them to put you on the Do not call list or they will call you back, if u dnt answer or just hang up on them they will just put you back in the system and someone else from there will call you, theyre not telemarketers either its raising money for non profit organizations, so the national do not call list wont work

What? 5%? Where are you getting the numbers at? I worked the job too, no stupid little quotations necessary. It is a job, making money, doing something that isn't completely worthless. And the numbers you quote are basically completely made up. I don't know the actual numbers, because i have better thing to do than memorize things like that. However, i do know that because of them, several hundred thousand dollars go to different organizations that would never see it otherwise.

As horrible as Medallion is.... phfff. Third easiest job i ever had, barely 3 spots ahead of setting and reading for 12 hours a day.

As for the just hanging up, company policy, as explained to me, is that unless someone at least says hello first, it goes in Not In. And the much maligned phrases are required. As in I barely escaped being written up for not using them.

Received a call from Medallion about the Special Olympics.  I asked how much of the donation actually goes to the Special Olympics.  A supervisor came on and said they work on an hourly charge basis - about $23 per hour.  So anything received over that goes to the charity.  Sounds reasonable, so I donated.

"The caller then started in on a scripted dissertation on how society has not valued people whose mental capacity is not "normal".  If you cannot give me the common courtesy of an upfront honest request without all the guilt laden preaching then count me out."

Let me guess: They said that the athletes were "disabled, but not unable" OR "for years society has focused on what the handicapped cannot do, Special Olympics wants to turn that around and give them a chance to show what they CAN accomplish in life..." All of this crap (which I feel too awkward to say so choose not to) is meant to "pull on your heart strings", Medallion lingo for taking your mind off an amount of money mentioned and onto the cause/need. Always said after levels are pitched and before asking which level you can help with. Lame.

I've "worked" for Medallion for 2 years. Just a few points:

Medallion IS a professional fundraiser, but only certain states require us by law to disclose this information. It is "legitimate", I suppose, but like any other paid fundraiser, little of your donation will be received by the charity being solicited. Typically 5% of your first contribution, 50% of any contribution after that.

Not saying you shouldn't contribute, just stating a few facts.

If you get a call it will likely be the first of many, DO NOT JUST HANG UP. Sometimes that will stop the calling, for instance if I call and you hang up on me you will be resulted as a turndown. But because I work with idiots, some of my coworkers will put your name in "Not In" instead of "Turndown" so my supervisor reassigns leads and we recall people who were not contacted 2-3 hours ago. Usually I'm fortunate enough to be the one to call you the second time and get the verbal beatdown that really needs to go to Joe Blow sitting across the aisle from me. But always answer if you can and ask to be taken off the list because Medallion will DEFINATELY try back at a later time.

Tip: When this happens, and it will, try not to get rude. Not for my sake, you will not hurt my feelings and I'll do my job correctly regardless, but some people take it personally and again...will just put you in "Not In" or "Answering Machine" so we're back at square one. Instead, ask to be put on the Do Not Call List. As horrible as Medallion is they actually have a strict DNC procedure, the caller will tell you their manager needs to get on the line to take you off the list...don't hang up, this will take less than a minute and will actually be done so it's worth the 5 second wait. When the supervisor gets on the line tell them you want off the calling list for Special Olympics and for EVERY OTHER CHARITY that the company calls for (hundreds)--a global lockout.

If I call at a bad time, which will definately happen, try to keep in mind that I do not choose who I call, when I call them, or know how many times you've been called already. I work with many very dumb people and cannot help it.

I go to college and work at a place where I can do homework on the clock while making a very good wage. It's nothing personal, and I promise to quit as soon as I get my degree, but until then...I hope this helps.

After about 10 times of them calling and never leaving a message I decided to answer one night.  The caller then started in on a scripted dissertation on how society has not valued people whose mental capacity is not "normal".  If you cannot give me the common courtesy of an upfront honest request without all the guilt laden preaching then count me out.  I said no thanks and hung up.  I have a special needs nephew with physical and mental challenges and we already support variety club and special olympics and several other charities as well as our local church to the tune of about 15% of our gross income so I am tapped out.

Medallion is a telemarketing firm that solicits money for charities, namely Special Olympics.  They simply will not leave me alone.  I'm all for helping others who are less fortunate than me, but since October of 2007, Medallion has called me something like 10 times asking for money, and each time I asked them to leave me alone.  Do yourself a favor: don't answer when these people call.  They're like a virus.

I have continued to receive these calls several times a day for the past week. I just got another one and it is 5:45 pm on a Sunday.  Leave me alone.  Even when I say please don't call back, they do.
The hint is when they call me by my first name and ask how I am doing.  How rude; I don't know them.
Can't they get the hint!

jennifer you are right. i am a professional fundraiser and beleive me we are strict about the rules of do not call. rule 1 The National Do Not Call List does not include political or charitable organizations. You have to tell evry charity and political call that you want to be on the do not call list. rule 2 failure to comply because evry call is recorded will result in complaint and fine to the call center. you can lose your job at my call center because we are heavily monitored and nothing gets past them. i have been working as a professional fundraiser for 4 yrs. anyone that says that we get the money first is WRONG . None of the campaign money we see it goes directly to them we get paid by the contact so i am tierd of people bashing the people that work tirelessly like myself and help work towards political elections and improve our country with support for charitys and environmental causes. and yes people do hang up and yes we disposition calls as callbacks but if they answer SO DO WE

Calls on a daily basis and when answered, no one is there  -  I have called them to get them to stop calling but I cannot speak to a human being, just a recording.  This should be illegal.  They are driving people away from giving to these charities

I called this number back late in the evening. It seems they are a charity that asks for donations (as indicated by their recorded female response).
