Event Reminder
I just received a call from these people yesterday. They left a message on my answering machine. They gave a phone number and a case number. I called the 313-556-2618 number back several times and no one answeres. They Said that they were Summit Collection. I contacted Summit Collection of Detroit, MI and they have no idea as to who I am. They have no record of a debt owed. The case number that I gave them does not even come up in their computer. They said that the numbers are totally incorrect. Apparently these people are pulling a scam by using Summit's business name. I personally have NO DEBT. My bills are paid. I have no credit cards, no loans, and no checking account. Also, I live in New Jersey. So, why would a collection agengy from Michigan be used to collect a debt on me if I really did owe someone. I will be having a meeting with a County Committee that I am a commissioner with. The people on our commission include the County Prosecutor, and heads of various police departments within our county. I will be giving this information on to the proper person. :)

They have been calling for months saying my husband has a warrant. Went as far as calling MY 80 year old grandparents. They believed every word of their crap. Trying to explain to them this is a scam is like giving a cat a bath. :( I'm so disgusted I don't know what to do!! I gave them my attorneys number and told them to contact him. The calls stopped for a few months but today they started back up again!!

It's a scam.  They have been calling off and on for about a year.  Different phone numbers, different people who call, but it's always the same message.  I block the numbers once I get a new one.
The one today said it was an attorney but didn't give me his name.  They make it sound official so they scare you into paying.  But don't give any information or verify any information over the phone. I believe if it is legitimate they would send me something to my home address.  I've lived at the same address for 20 years so it shouldn't be hard to contact me if they are legit.

Same old scam of husband and wife team. GHETTO....Just calling from a new number. Amazing two years later nothing has happened.
When you have an attorney call them, they state you forfeited your rights hiring an attorney (huh?) and good luck in court now.

Got the same call, have been getting them since the govt. shut down, but always from a different number. Said they were the information center, would not give me his name or address. I asked for verification of debt and said I could get it if I paid something to them. When I refused to and said I would wait for it to arrive to show to my council, I said good bye and hung up. He called me back from 610-675-0233 and said "you will get your documents when we see you in court, good luck" LOL...

What a bunch of crap heads. really, I have had these since back in what November, no court yet. they are trying to scam me and this once was from Detrioit. Had Carolinas, Ohio, Texas and they all are IP phones. Also I tried to hide my number and it did not work, how is that possible. I knew better than to call them back as now they will just keep calling me, but I had to tell them off, was it right? HECK NO, did it feel good OHHHHHHHHHHHH yeah...

Just plain ole scam.

I just picked up my message and right away what comes across my mind is that it is a poor way to scare someone to pay a debt and that why would they call from 313-556-2618 with legal threats rather than formally with a proper letter. Anyone calling like that leaving a message, I just don't trust.

These people have called multiple times saying they want a legitimate address to serve me with papers to pursue court . I understand I have some outstanding medical bills and some creditors that are on my credit report these people are not . I have been tempted to call them back with my attorneys name from Pittsburgh so they will stop harassing me for a bill I do not owe they really need to get their facts straight before calling someone or at least send out a letter instead of harassment

I have for a few years now, been receiving calls for a # / 313-556-2618; saying this call is for so and so (recording), that they are calling from "the process and summons division", (no State, or county or city , or company named), they go on to state "they are calling to notify me that there will be two charges filed against me in my county. Looks like fraudulent activity has been filed in my name and SSN;"  We need to make you aware of your legal rights to address the charges prior to them being file against you. You need to do so before you receive your summons at your place of employment or home address. Once your served your rights will be forfeited. Your case number is: (pause for recording of the #), There telephone number is: 313-556-2618.
As far as I can tell they are trying to collect for a pay-day loan company or companies.  Be aware,

I get the same call and have been for 6+ months.  They call from so many different phone numbers it's unbelievable.  Today they called from 313-556-2618 and exactly 20 minutes later called from 610-675-0232 and they were both the same exact recorded messages.  These people truly are scammers....DO NOT give them any information.  If you have an Android phone there is an app in the play store called Mr Number and you can choose to hang up on someone so every time I get one of these calls I choose the phone number they call from to be hung up on.  So, it just picks up and hangs up on them and they can't leave a message.  That's why they keep changing numbers.  I've filed a complaint with the California Attorney General's office and they really won't do anything about it.  They mailed me back a generic response so I guess it's good to have it on file but don't set your expectations too high.

we will really never know if this company is legit. I do know that if you are going to court for something and they  are stating court papers. generally they dont have to sent validation of debt without when its out of collection and is about to be filed. so apparently they are not collectors if they are letting you know abot you problems going to court. i just think you guys are professional debotrs. i use to work in a real collection office only people who  dont pay bills like they are suppose to. they go on the web and do this. i suggest you keep a track of your bills and because i didnt pay my light bill for 5 yrs the bill was in y husbands name . i still owed. i remembered that bill i didnt need validation b/c i owed it. you guys are professional... seriously.

Same thing saying that two charges are being filed against me and fraudulent activity against my name and san. They did not even say my name or anyone else's in the recording. I've reported them once but it doesn't seem to stop the harassment. I had my fiancee record my vm greeting , the message received was not automated. If they were coming after a female then they wouldn't have left a message! Total scam

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I got a message on my cell's voicemail this morning stating that charges were being filed against me for fraudulent activity associated with my social security number! I returned the call, the guy on the phone wanted me to set up payment arrangement or pay right now. But he sure didn't want me to contact the company he claimed I owed, which that account was paid in full years ago. Claims that he represents Goldman and Associates here in Houston, but he couldn't give me an address.The guy on the phone started threatening me and ends with saying good luck in court lol.

It would be really helpful for you to file a police report re. the identity theft.  That way, it's on record if someone does try to take out loans in your name, and you can also get and keep a copy of the report.  If you can afford it, paying for monthly ID theft monitoring would be a good idea.  Make sure your bank or financial institution puts fraud alerts on your accounts, and let at least one of the three credit bureaus Experian, Equifax, TransUnion) know, so they can also put alerts on your files.

As an FYI, if your callers were legitimate, they would also mail a debt validation letter to you showing you owe a debt and they can collect said debt.  In fact, they only have five days from the date of their first call to do so.

I got a message on my cell's voicemail this morning stating that charges were being filed against me for fraudulent activity associated with my social security number! However, the name they said the charges were being filed against is not mine! So I called to find out what this message was about and was put on hold for several minutes. I hung up finally. I called back and was placed on hold again! This time I waited and told them this was for someone else. They said they would remove my number. When I asked what company was calling me they refused to answer and kept telling me to have a nice day!!! I finally swore at them and hung up!!! Who are these people?
