Thanks to everyone who responded.  People who pull this kind of stuff on others are a waste of my oxygen.
I never picked up because the area code was outside my state.  There was no voicemail.  I wasnt' planning on calling back but now I definitely won't.

Called at 9:15 a.m. today.  Said I had filled out an online application for a confidential client of theirs within the last week, which is a lie because I have been working at my NEW job almost a month.

I called back and confirmed my info and all the rest as you guys did.  I did apply for some health care jobs...but the company they named didn't seem familiar.  It would be easy for that to happen, since I have applied for MANY jobs in the past few weeks.   Like a dope, I verified my info.  I hope that I can block all the spam, text messages and so on because of it!

same deal as all of you. i called the number back and ended up talking to a girl with a southern accent which i guess was a little strange seeing as i'm looking for a job in upstate NY. as soon as i told her i wasnt looking for further schooling the conversation ended pretty quickly.  just curious what benefit could come from calls like this? i'm applying for jobs, not schools.  sounds fishy

They left me 2 voice mails yesterday while I was working my just above a scam day job that has declared having your cell phone on your person a firing offense. ( on top of a 2 week unpaid break and claiming that budget considerations are the reason people were asked to sign off on a pay cut) At least I have seen cashable checks from the current day job.

I deleted the voice mails after work, and then tried to call back the  314-735-4800 phone number. Being originally from St. Louis, I at first thought it was relatives of mine, and was starting to get frustrated at the repeated "all circuits are busy" message. I broke through about 10 eastern last night, and it was a recycled "this is employment select, please wait for the next available recruitment confirmation agent" message. I figured that meant they had finally broken the log jam and tried them again this morning on the way to the current, greatly loathed but unfortunately needed for the moment job.

Guess what? "All circuits are busy" and stayed that way all day. So safe at home, having not yet come across my current boss's desk with strangling intentions, I googled the phone number, expecting to get a solid e-mail address to communicate with employment select. Instead, one of the links is to this page, and stories about folks who got scammed.

Not me baby, I'm too precious, f*** off, as Chrissie Hynde said. Screwed and underpaid, but with a shitty job for as long I can maintain my temper and manage to not lash out against the next inevitable encroachment on adult workplace behavior the boss sees fit to try to pull. We ask people on one survey that we do whether or not they have workplace violence prevention programs in force.

How about this for workplace violence prevention- pay your workers fairly, treat them like adults, put the kibosh on people who need petty rules to keep them in line as well as on coming up with petty rules? What would that be like??

I guess kind of like getting a job through a random call from a crew like employment select, or some hottie from Russia actually showing up at the airport after you western union off her $900 for a plane ticket on top of the $1500 for a rapid visa from some place in Russia that the US Department of State or Homeland Security knows nothing about.

Christ on a crutch, can anyone just offer an honest dollar for an honest day's work? And you wonder why the economy is in the toilet right now?

I recieved a call from this company. they are full of sh*t. I believe it is a company from the University of Phoenix....which is a scamming school. They wanted to know my highest education completed. I told them I have an associates degree...then she went on to ask whether or not I am interested in attending school, i told her no, esp. not the university of Phoenix. the classes are over priced and the falcuty sucks. she ended the call at that....what a crock of sh*t. they also wanted to know my cell carrier....why? i told her that information isnt important at this point.

I got a call from this company today.  I answered and it was still a recording, the same recording that was left on most of your VM.  I want to call and investigate, not sure if I will.  Interestingly enough though, I remember getting an e-mail a few days ago about a 'confidential job" or something like that.  I'm going to have to go through my trash folder to find it.
I've been getting a lot of scam mail and checks lately.  I always research it but we should all be careful.  "damn technology" is right!  We post our resumes and apparently any j*** off has access to it.

Also, be sure not to apply for jobs with an email listing ending in @gmail.com. Any viable company would have an email extension that isn't free, or they could use the anonymous one craigslist gives them. Be sure to report any listings with @gmail.com as spam and do your fellow job seekers a favor.

I applied for a job as an Advertising Liason on Craigslist in Charlotte NC on August 7th. I heard nothing back from the "company" and assumed I hadn't been considered. Then, Saturday, October, 11th I got a message from 314-735-4800 saying that Heather from Employment Select was calling to verify my info for a recent application for and Advertising Liason I had submitted. I assumed that once I called her back, she would give me the name of the client she was working with. No. She said I had applied for the job recently (IT HAD BEEN OVER 2 MONTHS AGO) and then she proceeded to ask me questions about furthering my education, cell phone provider etc. I gave her the info she needed and she told me the client would be calling me in a few days to dicuss an interview. Since then I have received several different calls from the same number from with recorded messages like the first one. I called back again, this time speaking to Monica, and asked why she needed my info. She gave me the same line as Heather. I told her Heather had already called me and that I had googled the number and I wanted to her to remove my info and leave me alone. She was very defensive once she realized I thought they were a scam. I asked to speak to her manager and she hung up!!! Please, Don't apply for jobs on Craigslist!!!!! And furthermore, don't give out any info. Simply ask for their manager. They will leave you alone....Hopefully.

I rec'd call from same #, did not answer. There are 2 or 3 job listings on Stl.com (I believe) Jobs are confidential, pay from $15-$2o Hr. Filled out
app. online, & got a call from a lady & she said I'll get a call next day to
critique my resume. they are based in Fla. & she basically told me to redo
resume. How are the unemployed supposed to trust these ads.

These people should be ashamed of themselves.  To prey on people that are spending hours each day trying to find viable employment - what a disgrace!  I've had at least 3 calls from that number (and multiple more e-mails).  They always say they're trying to verify your application information as an employer pre-screen, but I've never gotten anything further from any employers referred through them.  Never again will I waste my time responding to their e-mails (not I understand why they were showing up in my Spam folder) or calls.  I basically had the same experience as everyone else that's posted.

I received a call from them on my cell.  I didn't answer and I am glad I didn't after reading all these posts. Job hunter beware.  The scammers are out there especially on craigslist.com.  I have also noticed that the scammers will send you to a website with a short form application and they specifically have in bold letters to input your cell number and carrier.  I think it is some marketing technique or scam.

My husband keeps receiving their calls on his cell phone.  When you call it back it says all circuits are busy.  ANd this can be at anytime of day or night.  He thought it was weird also that they asked for cell carrier and I thought it was a scam right away when I saw the higher education on the app as I was researching it.  We have since went and changed our passwords to everything as they asked him on the original app what his most common password for the internet was.  Not thinking he gave it away.  And if you read their terms it says they will text your cell phone.  How odd is that.  Definitely a scam.

Be aware about this number they called me but didn't leave a message I tried to call back but didn't get through but when I did they said I applied for a job in July 2008 for ADP and wanted to know if I was still interested.  Since it was long ago I thought maybe I put in for this job but when I checked the ADP site no job was posted on that day or close to it.  I didn't give them no personnal information for all others be careful of this number they are not on the level!
