(314) 892-7610 said Erika Hembree on the caller ID looking for information on a patient.  She said she was from Traveler's.  I don't trust this.  If she wants information I need a company letterhead with a company tax ID in it and signed by the patient authorizing to release specific information and I want a copy of the patient's ID attached to make sure that is the patient who signed the Hipaa form.  Otherwise stop calling me.

Caller ID said Melissa Gillyon from 314-892-7610.  She said she was calling from AIG insurance and wanted to verify treatment of a patient "Ruth Gaskins".  She said she could provide DOB and SS#.  I explained that we don't give information out over phone, but that she could fax us a release, and I asked her to tell me exactly when the patient supposedly treated with us (dates of service).  She could only respond that the "date of injury was February 2013".  When I asked if she KNEW the patient treated here or if she was just calling various possible providers/offices, she admitted that she was (cold) calling.  Probably a third party investigator for insurance company.

I have received over 20 calls from them in the last two months.  Each time they ask if I have record of a patient, I ask them to fax me a release, and the release never arrives.  Today I have received three calls from them.  I have reported this to my supervisor.  If they are legitimate, why can't they send a release of information?  Because there is no release, therefore, they are unlawfully requesting information.  I will not answer their calls again.

Thanks for posting information on this number.  They keep calling on behalf of Liberty Mutual or Travelers asking me to verify information on patients.  When I tell them to fax me the request, they don't even take my fax number, they just ask detail about what we do.  Next time I'm telling them to fax a request and I'm hanging up.

This company is actually a third party investigator for insurances. They are contracted by insurances to try and catch insurance fraud. They get the person who filed the insurance claims home address and start calling around to see if the person really did receive the care they sent claims to their insurance for. Intertel callers tend to be rude and they don't stop calling.

Someone from Chubb returned my call and said would look into this. Assures not standard business practice and not likely and actual contracted employee.

I received a call asking what type of business we ran.

I was asked if we were an X-Ray or MRI business and I said we were not.

I was then asked what kind of business we were. I asked who I was speaking with - as I was not going to give out random information over the phone. She said her name was Barb and she was calling in representation of Chubb Insurance. She said they do workers comp claims. She said, as I would not identify the type of business that we were, that we were going to be left "unmarked on the list" and someone else would just keep calling again later.

I confirmed her name, the company she was working for, explained I would not give any information over the phone to unknown parties and let her know that if we continued to receive calls we would file a harassment lawsuit.

I said have a good day and she hung up.

I called Chubb insurance to see if she truly represented them and was redirected to 3 different voice mails and the mail room. I left a message but no one got back to me.

There was a lady called from Intertel Inc/Travelers and asked the same questions as other posts. She also asks how far my computer go back. So I have asked her that how can she get  my info eventhough I don't have that patient in my system. She said Travelers Insurance provided. This call must be a scam! Don't provide any info to them.

A lady keeps calling our office from INTERTEL TRAVELERS INSURANCE and keeps asking if we have seen a patient by the name of Susan Sims, Karen Dice, etc. She asks how far back does our database goes and if we use paper charts. She also wants to know if i can search by the Social Security Number or Date of birth. Do not give any info out to this company! I have concluded from research is that they call and ask about very COMMON names so eventually after so many calls they make to many offices, an office will have a patient by that name or similar spelling and they will claim that they insure that patient and need to verify their info and someone would end up getting very personal information.

This very rude lady keeps calling our office.  I have now blocked the number after reading previous posts about her other "indentities".  She claims to be verifying our street address, phone, drs name, etc.  THEN she asked for the corporation credit card?  Does she really think we are that stupid?  If anyone calls from this number, do not give out any info!

they called me and stated they were from CURE Auto Insurance and asked about a patient. Told them I am not aware of that patient and had no record. They asked if my records go back 3 years on the computer which I said does but told them I had nothing in my computer and nothing in the charts...they said thanks and hung up...

They were very pushy & asked questions about our business without first identifying herself. After I interrupted to ask why the information was needed, they said they were from Traveler's insurance, and said the call was about a specific patient, and gave me a name. When I said I had no record of that patient, they continued to ask specific questions about our record-keeping.

Not sure what to think of this...it felt like a scammer call, but we have dealt with Traveler's in the past, so it could possibly be legit. When I Googled the number, the company came up as Intertel, Inc, which apparently has become Mitel according to their website. Didn't see anything to indicate they are actually associated with Traveler's.
