Had a officer Steven Johnson call me and say if i didnt call him back or have my attorney call him back that he would file charges against me left a 407-477-0175 phone Number,I called and followed up with a complaint i already had with the real FTC the gentleman i talked there told me not to call them back,This is a SCAM if they where a real collection company they would send you something in writeing on how much you owe them, instead of threatening you with arrest or a jail or a court date. They told me all this the first of december and nothing has happened they also will not send any copys of anything to you.I even asked they said you have to go to court before you can get your copys which is BULL,Dont give in if they call you call the FTC and report them.

Received a call again. This is definately a scam. One piece of information they have is incorrect. They have my infor from the various applications i filled out. Do not give in to them. Besides, I am still waiting for them to send the details of the charges to me. They will never send that information as they have no claim against me. Sad to hear all these people giving in to them and losing all that money.

Called number after listening to the message on voicemail. Same message as the last 19 calls. Same information given as the last 19 calls. Past payday loan, still owe, will be arrested if not paid. Again I asked for the name of the payday company, the amount owed, and the date. Could not give me any information. The person's name supposedly is Thomas Kawin with the FTC. I asked for his location. He gave me a Florida address. Strange since the number  I called is a New York number. He said my options were to be arrested, pay the amount he demanded I pay, or go to the courthouse. I asked for the courthouse address. He said it was located in California. I searched for the Florida office of the FTC and found the nearest to be in Georgia.

I have been receiving these calls for a year now.

I am getting harrassing phone calls also. This man has an accent and says his name is Andy Smith or something like that. I did have a few payday loans almost 3 years ago which I paid in full. I have proof that they were paid. I think these people get your info from that and bother you years later trying to make you think that the bill was never settled. If an attorney called me with an american accent then I would probaly think there is a misunderstanding but it is a man calling with an american name that cant speak english well at all. I have asked him to send me something in writing and he is not willing to do that. So for now I thinking this is a scam as well.

A man calling himself Alex Brown called and as near as I can tell, says that I have an outstanding debt for a payday loan. He was  using some sort of device to mask his voice, and apparently couldn't use it properly because it was very hard to understand him. I had been receining calls from an Officer Johnny Smith and then Logan Harris and I told them to quit harassing my friends, and that without proof of the deby, I wouldn'tpay anything. Guess they moved onto another number. Will filde with the ftc on this nymber, too.

WALLINGFORD, CT, August 07, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Better Business Bureau is warning consumers about would-be debt collectors who call "payday" loan holders, threatening arrest if they don't pay immediately.

A payday loan, also known as a paycheck advance, is a short-term cash advance intended to cover expenses until the holder's next payday.

The callers claim they are lawyers with the "Financial Accountability Association" or the "Federal Legislation of Unsecured Loans," and they are armed with stolen personal information from their victims, indicating a major security breach of unknown origin. The names used by the scammers may change with time.

According to Connecticut Better Business Bureau President, Paulette Scarpetti, payday loan holders appear to be particularly at risk.

"Because the scammers have so much information about potential victims, BBB is concerned that this may be the result of a data breach. Thousands of people may have had their personal information compromised."

Reports received by Better Business Bureau and posted online explain the con artists threaten the loan holders of defaulting and claim they are being sued. The imposters threaten the loan holders with imminent arrest and extradition to California to stand trial, unless they immediately wire $1000 or provide bank account or credit card information.

Connecticut Better Business Bureau has advice for consumers who receive suspicious telephone calls about an outstanding debt:

-Don't be bullied into immediate action. Ask the debt collector to provide official documentation that substantiates the debt.
-Do not provide or confirm any bank account, credit card or other personal information over the telephone until you confirm the legitimacy of the call.
-If you believe a debt collector is trying to scam you, file an abuse complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) online at www. ftc.gov, or by telephone at (202) 326-2222. Also file a complaint with your Better Business Bureau at http://www.bbb.org or by telephone at 203-269-2700, ext. 2.

They can't arrest you for a debt.  It is against the law for them to threaten you.  Next time they call, request an address to send a written request for verification of the debt.  If they don't give it to you, report them to the FTC and your state's attorney.  If they do, request in writing that they provide you with proof that you opened the account (signature, etc), the original creditor, the original amount, any and all fees added to that amount, the date of last activity (to check against your state's statute of limitations), their license number (to check that they are licensed to collect in your state.  They cannot continue to collect until you receive it.

Given that they have already violated the FDCPA they probably won't respond.  If they continue to violate federal law, sue them.

This guy named Andy Brown keeps calling saying I have a payday loan out and never paid back. I contacted my bank and they have no record of a deposit from any payday loan place. His associate has called friends and relatives threatening them that they will go to jail. I have never taken a payday loan out of any kind. They have an foreign accent and it is like a middle eastern accent. They are trying to get information to commit fraud or they are scamming. They keep on calling when you hang up on them or when you are even rude to them.

I received a call from Andy Brown also.  He is also calling my relatives.  They got my information from and internet payday loan company, who I never even had an account with.  I drilled him with questions he couldn't answer and finally he hung up and stopped calling me.  But now I am receiving call from another phone.  All of the callers have a thick middle eastern accent.  This is a complete scam!
