Andrew just called me too. I wasn't on my computer...he said I needed to turn it on. I did not. He was very insistent. I said I wont be available to clear the "viruses" and that I could run a virus scan on my own and didn't need his help. ..told him I would call back if I felt I needed help. He gave me the same number 315-636-6210. total scam. urgh!  the caller, "Andrew" sounded East Indian and like he was in a room full of people, telemarketers.

Same just happened to me at work. Called blocked. Said he was with "windows department". He said his name was Andrew and had a thick Indian accent. He told me I have a virus on my computer and asked me to turn it on so he could remove it. Well, I'm at work so my computer was on. I asked for his number and name and address so i could call back when ready to do so.  He responded with 315-636-6210, Andrew,  88 Brooklyn, NY....... HUH? That is not an address..

Watch out for this one! The web site they gave you is real. It is registered to Microsoft. In the world of scams this is pretty common. They give you a real web site, but fake email/phone number. As you already know, Microsoft does not cold call you.

I received the same call as the individuals listed above.  The tech informed me he was John Miller and had a thick Indian accent.  When I asked him for his phone # and website to verify him, he gave me (315) 636-6210 and www.win32.com.  After I informed him I was verifying his information online as I spoke to him, he quickly got off the phone.  I don't trust it.  I don't believe Windows would make cold calls like this.  Don't trust it.  Check with a technician on your own. I hope this helps.

I received the same phone call.   A gentleman with a very heavy Indian accent asking me to troubleshoot over the phone with him to delete viruses from my computer.  He could not specify which computer was detecting a virus and just kept telling me to go into any of my computers and he would walk me through it.  When I asked him his name he was hesitant then said "Edward Jackson," sounds likey they give out a lot of generic names.  I also heard a lot of background noise, like a call center.  I told him this sounded fake and he kept ensuring me that it wasn't and that I needed to get rid of the viruses on my computer.  I got the callback number, 315-633-6210 and was told he was Brooklyn, NY.  Glad I knew not to fall for the scam!

Just got a call from them, he told me to click on my start button on windows 8. He didn't know anything about windows that he wasn't reading off a piece of paper. He also couldn't provide me with a Microsoft ID number. Scam.

Telemarketer
Received a second call, same scam different caller name, Cavis.  This scam was highlighted on NBC news a few months ago.  The woman interviewed spent $1000s to fix nothing.
The person calling was reading from a well prepared script and very believable.   But could not answer technical questions not on the script, like why is this a problem on my iPad?

Nice try Shill, but it isn't happening! Its a scam and they are not real windows tech support at all!  Windows aka Microsoft does not cold call you!

Its a scam and all they want is your money! They have no way of knowing whats going on with your computer and No legitimate company cold calls like this.  The scam usually entails them taking you to your event viewer which is a internal monitor that logs events on your computer.. Oh sure, you will see the error's logged, but its all a scam to get you to allow them access to your computer. The event viewer is only doing its job and its there for a real tech to look through should you actually have a problem. Then they want remote access! They usually turn your anti virus program off  and give you a big spiel, then inform you they want a small fee to fix it.. several hundred dollars of course! Meanwhile, they have access to all your computer and could be gleaning personal info, downloading stuff to your computer to turn it into a zombie computer to spam folks..

The only persons who should be touching your computer is you, your manufacturer, Real Windows support that *you* have called and/or maybe a real live tech you see face to face!

Same format for me, too.  Only, my guys name was Smith Black with an Indian accent. He was trying to instruct me to open up my computer with Team Viewer so that he could gain remote access and remove the virus that he said was on my computer. He said that he was a technician for Windows but didn't have a Microsoft employee number when I asked him to identify himself further.  He gave me his phone number and said that I could call back.

This guy was not working alone.....there were many more in the background calling other folks.  In fact, it sounded like a full room (20 or more).

Got a call out of the blue reputedly from this phone number.  Man with thick Asian-sounding accent, saying his name was "William Johnson", said he was calling from Technical Services of Windows and that he would instruct me on how to remove a virus from my computer.  I asked for his phone number in case we got cut off and asked for him to spell his name.  He gave me the phone number 315-636-6210 and said he was calling from Brooklyn.  While difficult to understand, he seemed to spell his last name "Joson."  This seemed like a very odd call and so I concluded before hanging up by saying the call wasn't working out and to send me information about the problem.
