I just received a call from (315) 789-9672 on my home phone at 10pm. A woman on the other end said she was calling from Microsoft Support and the for the past couple of weeks they have been receiving error messages from my computer. I told her that I do not have a computer (even though I do) and she was snarky and said, "Oh, really!". She went on about how I need to resolve these errors. I told her that I didn't believe a word she was saying and that this was all a scam. I told her not to call me again and that I was going to call the police. With attitude, she said "Go ahead!".  

I'm not sure where it would have went, but I wasn't willing to wait and find out. My kids were sleeping and the phone ringing woke them up! I was pissed!

This number just called me +1 (315) 789-9672 from Geneva, NY. I let it ring for 3 or 4 times as I was suspicious because I live in the UK and it could have been a number that charges you loads just to answer, and why would anyone from the US be calling me?? How do they even have my number? I'm glad I didn't answer, and I hope they don't call me again! Luckily it was only 11:40am here, but I'll be extremely angry if they call back at night.

I received a call from this number - Man with an Indian accent said he was calling about my lost dog.  He left the call back number of 281-763-0484.  I thought it seemed suspicious so I googled the phone number. I didn't call him back.

Be aware of this scam that is going on - it literally just happened to me on my house phone and the person knows my name and everything  called me "Mrs. W"

I had a suspicion that this was a scam when the person sounded really weird, with a weird accent. But the way he was saying "Okay" was really off - almost automated... only that one word.

He claimed he was from Microsoft saying that my computer had some malicious software and he was going to try to help me fix it.

I asked him where again he is from - and he repeated I am from Window Office Technologies... etc...etc.

I then tried to ask different questions to throw him off.

I said, I do not use Office, I own a mac computer.

"Do you own a laptop?" - I said NO (even though I do)

Then he said... oh yes, we have detected malicious software on your Mac too.

I said - "I thought you JUST said it was a MS office problem." and then told him I want to speak to his manager.

He then HUNG UP.

BE CAREFUL. I am glad I was right... and glad I was able to google this post after to confirm.

i just got the same call off the same number my caller ID showed up as New York, i never answer these type of calls and now i know its another scam, i certainly wont be answering if they call back. the scumbags

Am on the do not call list.  It doesn't seem to work.  I got a call from this number and he was rude.

On this date of February 1, 2014, I got a call from this number.  He had an Indian accent and ask who was the house computer owner.  I told him there were no computers in my house.  He just hung up on me.  No thank you, goodbye or anything.  That's indicative of a scam.  

Kind man from windows support offered to clean viruses off for me. Of course I accepted because its flu  season and my windows are pretty dirty. When he asked for my credit card I just said, young man, I deal in cash only except for my  Diners Club card from my dead husband. He seemed like such a nice young man, a welcome newcomer to our great country and apparently using his imagination to stay off the government support. Now back to my macrame.

I too have jsut received a scam call from the 315-789-9672 number and was told that this fellow (with a strong accent) was from the Windows Support Centre and that my computer was broadcasting my Windows Authentication Code out onto the net. He informed me that someone had captured the ID code from my computer and was now using that information for illegal purposes. I said I don't believe you for one second but he went onto say that it is true otherwise why would he call me.

For starters, my phone number is not associated with my windows ID in anyway because its first: unlisted and second: not the number used when I registered Windows...in fact I don't recall anywhere that windows requests a number during activation. Next I wanted to see how far this guy was willing to go so I asked what he wanted me to do and he had me open a Command box and asked me to type in ASSOC and then the enter key.  I SAID NOT A CHANCE BUDDY!!!!  He got really angry and put his manager on who also eventually got real angry with me after I told him I wanted to verify everything with Microsoft before I would do anything else. At that point he hung up.  About two minutes later he called back from a completely different number which was 607-722-9687 and said that if I didn't verify my ID code that he had no choice but to deactivate my windows ID which would make my computer stop functioning and that if I called their service centre back at 347-468-9607 to verify their call and confirm that I had run the ASSOC command and verified my ID, then he would reactivate my Windows and that would be the end of it.

Long story but can you believe the lengths these guys will go to to compromise your life. This is a complete scam (verified through Microsoft) but they could get their hooks into you with Malware if you proceed with the ASSOC command while they are on the other end to receive any bits that might sneak out onto the net. He even told me to disconnect my computer from the net if that made me feel better but I instantly thought, yeah sure....the second I reconnect, you have some little file that gets blasted out directly back to them for whatever purposes they have in mind.

Caution out there.....it's a dangerous world we live in now-a-days.

Thank you very much for your story.  I got a missed call from this number.  Thanks God I missed the call, otherwise I would be wasting my precious time with this nonsense scam.

I have been getting calls from this number and several others.  Why can't the FCA do anything about all of these calls, why do we have to keep reporting it and them not do anything about it.  We pay our taxes but can't seem to get anything done about these scams or stupid calls we keep receiving all the time.

I believe the police forces should actually make an effort and arrest these guys. They call from a phone which can be traced and disconnected, they have money sent to banks which have account numbers that can be traced. The fact that noone does a damn thing, and these guys are left to defraud innocent people who are not so sharp, says a lot for the useless idiots that claim to be our politicians and our law enforcement. A law amnesty would be nice as then we could genocide people like this from the human race, just sayin.

I picked up but quickly muted to try and trick them into thinking it was as dead number.  I've tried blocking but the number they are showing "315-789-9672" is not the number they are actually calling from, just what they've plugged into the caller ID information field.

omg!!! this has been going on for years, i can't believe it. I'm in England and I've been receiving different calls from USA, what the hell is going on here!!!!!

One year later and the same old phishing calls from this very number. Phone companies do nothing to stop the crooks.

Guy with the thikest mid-eastern accent called himself David Smith and said he was from Microsoft Scary Department. I fooled with him for about 5 min at which point he got really frustrated and told me to go f**k myself. Oh well

Got a call from this number asked for a call back number he provided me with one, didn't copy it down though.  I called back his number and got the message this number is not in service.  The same scam they are from microsoft and they wanted to fix my computer, no chance.

Missed a call from +13157899672 this afternoon in Ireland. They left no message on the machine.

I have had several calls from these numbers +1(315)789-9672 &+1(607)767-0115 mainly through the afternoon and sometimes at night the first was from Geneva NY saying i had won an i-pad the second was from Canada i didnt answer that, just keep declining the calls .

I received this call ~ Same scenario ~ what I want to know is what happened the DO NOT CALL I signed up for last year!!!
I told the lady I wasn?t interested and not to call this number again ~ all I heard from her was Wait Wait as I hung up?

I just received a call from this number (1-315-789-9672) at 12:47am. It showed up on my Caller ID as "New York". I said "Hello", but there was no answer and then they hung up. After reading the comments above, I am furious. Not only are they trying to scam, they're doing it badly. What kind of Lawyer or Tech Service would call after midnight?

Well they seem to be at it again. My friend Sam calls claiming to be from the Windows service department and needs to help fix my computer. I told him I did not have one. Then he said it must be my laptop, told I did not have one of those either. But he claimed that my ISP provider told him I did. I asked what that was, he said the internet, I said I did not know what that was. He got mad and hung up.

I just got this number on my fax machine so I did not answer, but get this: I'm in the Netherlands. I guess they switched continents to find new victims.

Received a call from this number today (Dec.6, 2012). Same man, it sounds like. He said he was from Microsoft and that my computer has been reporting error messages to them (obviously a scam but I wanted to see where it would go). He immediately insisted that I follow his directions to get to the Run window. So I pretended that it wasn't working, he was getting frustrated, then I handed the phone to my 3-year-old who was having a screaming tantrum. I thought that would be it but he called back! This time the number was 1-130-344-2929. I still had a screamer, so he said he'd call back tomorrow. Great! He thinks he has a live one.

01.11.2012: Woman with an Indian type accent called and the number came up as 001 315 789 9672.   I could not understand what she was saying and I disconnected.   By the by, I have received many, many attempted calls, none taken by me, and identified as 00 99 99 99 9.   No message left and immediate disconnection following my recorded outgoing message.   I wonder is there any connection between the two numbers?   I received these calls at County Dublin, Ireland.   Take care.
