I received a text message on my government phone saying, "Thank you for shopping at Best Buy.  To show our thanks her is a $1000 gift card for the holidays.  Just go to www.myfreeofersite.com/bestbuy for your reward".  When I clicked on the site it lead to no where.  I then typed the link into my computer and it lead to no where.  So I decided to call the phone that the text message came into and the female voice stated, "the number you dialed is not receiving any messages at this time" then it clicked over to a continous ring tone with no answer.  I tried dialing it again 5 mins later and it went straight to a "busy" signal.

Be ware of this message not sure what it is doing but I'm glad it was on a government line because they monitor it very closely.

This is a scam. To get the freebie, you'll have to give them your credit/debit card number for a small shipping charge but what they won't tell you is buried in the fine print is authorization to negative-option bill your card for nonsense subscriptions. Negative-option means they keep charging every month until you cancel the subscriptions but the scammers sometimes make it very difficult to cancel. The scammers can obviously also bang a big charge on your card. Your card issuer may or may not agree to stop the subscriptions and give you the money back because you'd agreed to them in the fine print even though you were completely unaware of them. This is a scam.

Text soliciting me to go to a website for a Walmart $1000 gift card, same as the others.

Coincidentally, earlier today I received a call from a scammer in the Austin area, trying to get me to call another number regarding some credit card fraud that didn't happen.  I guess I made someone's list - how lucky.

Same thing just happened to me.

Message reads: Thank you for shopping at Walmart. To show our thanks here is a $1000 gift card for the holiday shopping.

They also told me to go to a website:
www.myfreeoffersite.com for the reward.

Why are they even allowed to text my cell phone?
