Jeff: Thanks for the great info. I called the number you listed below and got a similar response. We'll see if it works but I appreciate the info in the mean time. Enough is enough!!

If you answer and ever get a live person, ask them to please remove your name from their call lists.  Keep track of the date you did this.   Since they aren't selling anything, they are exempt from the DNC, but most companies will honor your request, although I have to ask twice to get it done in the past. When you ask the second time, refer to the date of your first request.  It adds legitimacy to your claim that you have asked before, so they usually get to it quicker the second time.

I just got a call from this number saying "AT T Messaging".  I answered and it hung up.  I understand this is an FOP call.  If they are truly not for profit, they are, in fact, exempt from the Do Not Call listings.  The DNC list is for solicitors who are selling product or services.  Charitable organizations are not included.  Also not included are people calling to collect data for surveys.  By the way, many of those are legit, even if you don't want to participate.  I worked for a company that does data collecting for state, federal and local governments and universities, and that is exempt, as nothing is being sold.

Just wanted everyone to know that there are groups that are exempt.  Also, anyone with which you have even a remote connection to can call you.  So, if you bought a washer at Sears, they can call you to sell roofing.  If you are in a hotel rewards program, they can call you to sell you a timeshare.  If you ever had a credit card with a company, even years ago, they can call you to try to give you another, and if you ever had an account with a bank, they can use that relationship to call you for other sales calls.

If none of that stuff applies, my understanding is they cannot call you if you are on the DNC.  Only charitable organizations and companies not trying to sell anything are off the hook.

Beware-  I just heard on the news that they are trying to pass a law that bill collectors can now call your cell phones if they get a hold of them.  They are using the reasoning that, in this changing world, many people no longer have a home phone, and they need to be able to contact people by other means.

My caller ID, too, says AT T MESSAGING for 1-317-971-2672; sometimes I let it ring, sometimes I pick it up. Today, I spoke with a man claiming to be from the FOP, accepting pledges for officers killed in the line of duty. I've responded to the same "pledge" spiel from the same number a couple months ago-may even have been the same 'pledge spiel officer' calling; only last time, the caller ID was something different...I think recalling it said, "unavailable".

Got tons of calls from this number. Was finally home when they called. It was the Indiana FOP. From what I can see the FOP in this area deserves nothing. In my opinion they harass people. One person I know was pulled over for driving from a bar to his apartment. The reason the police gave for pulling him over. The factory installed camera in his car covered up his rear plate. Another friend got harassed by the cops. The crime walking on a public road at night. I got pulled over for backing up 3 feet before I turned on my lights. They were on before I was on the road. I have daytime running lights. The reason the cop gave he was afraid I was stealing gas and I took off a little fast. I pointed out that to steal gas I would have had to be at the gas pump. I was parked 50 feet away on the side of the gas station. He admited I didn't speed. I pointed out my 8 year old 4 cyl cavalier had less balls than a castrated dog. He really didn't know what to say. They do this to us on the road. Not too long ago a off duty cop while driving his squad car. Ran over someone killing them. The police came to his defence talking about what a good cop he was. They harass us wrongly pulling over people to try and catch a few people out having a drink. But when a cop is either drunk or two stupid to have a Drivers license its ok cause he's a good cop. Give me a break. Don't donate to the FOP and tell all your friends and family not to donate to them.

If you are on the do not call list and someone continually calls you, you can report it at the Federal Trade Commission's website:
https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/

If you talk to someone you suspect of running a scam, this is a good place to report them.  Jot down all the details you can as you talk with them because this complaint site asks a lot of questions.

I used to work for this company a few years back. It's not a scam like you think scams are; shady people working out of someone's basement trying to pull one over on unsuspecting senior citizens. Funds do go toward what they say they do. Unfortunately, it had (and maybe still has) some bad seeds way higher up who never set foot in the calling center.

I understand the autodialing is annoying on your end. It was even more annoying on ours since we had to deal with hundreds a day. Ask to be taken off the list and whoever is working there will gladly do it. It's a job that that someone needs in order to make ends meet at home or to pay for tuition. There is no commission from sales and nobody was taking home a huge paycheck funded by ripping people off. (Well, unless you recently had your cars and mansions seized by the government)

My point is, take a breath and be civil to the FOP worker when asking to get your name removed. They're not trying to take advantage of you and most callers aren't aware of the politics of the company. It's depressing enough working in a call center without getting yelled at.

Scam police dept donation solicitation from 317-971-2672. These people are relentless in calling in spite of my requests for them to stop calling. I would not give the police even $1 after all this harassment. Someone should go to jail for these calls. I answer and tell them to take me off their list and do not call again. Sometimes they do actually wait a month and then call again. I cant believe they find this worth their time and money to keep calling. I wish someone would prosecute them.

It IS a call from a group collecting for the Indiana Fraternal Order of Police but here's what's happening. They called me and began their speil, I told them I couldn't give, ok no problem. That was 4 days ago, now every morning at 8:30 I get a 'robo-call' from this number, I pick up and it disconnects. If you call back you get a recording saying something like "this mailbox cannot accept messages".

I've been getting several calls from this number recently, all of which never produce either a recording or a live person.  So, I took the information from this web-site linking the number to the Indiana FOP, looked up their number and called them.  Here are the results:

The lady who answered was very gracious, acknowleged that (317)971-2672 was indeed one of their phone numbers, that she's aware that "there's something going on with that number" and that she was going to look into the issue.  In the meantime, she asked for my phone number so that she could move it to their internal "no-call" list, but that it could take up to 72 hours for it to be fully in place.  The phone number for the Indiana FOP is (800)793-6746
