They are calling to update you about your account. Either a payment failed to process and the collector is trying to recover it, or the collector is trying to update you about your account and how they may need to fax you paperwork that is required with the program in order to get out of default (paperwork that you have/must have faxed to you or you can print it off and scan and email it back to the proper given email address given to you by the collector...or they are calling to let you know your account is about to fund and come out of default...jeeeez pick up your phone to them and just talk! They are only there to help you!

This is a debt collection agency for student loans. They are legit. I called the Department of Education to verify that this was indeed the company that my defaulted loans went to. They have been pretty nice to me, actually. There have been countless calls from so many different cities and states all vying for my business...many of which are actually scams. I had signed up for a rehabilitation program for my federal loans and never realized I was only paying on half of them that whole year. You never know who is calling, get all your information. Now I know the full scope of the terrifying and seemingly insurmountable debt I acquired by going to a top private university...the price we pay for prestige, I suppose.  With this new info, I am working with Coast Professionals on rehabilitating the other half of my federal loans. Hopefully, one day I can get on top of all of this chaos...one step at a time. I would like to add that they will work with you on what you can pay--depending on how much  you make, even if only a few dollars a month. I am one of those people that ignores all calls from numbers I don't know, too, but  hoping by doing this, the calls will start to taper off. I asked why they don't leave voicemails and told her why (bc I screen) and she said that they are not allowed to...se sort of law against it, I think. Anyway, now you know...it's not just for University of Phoenix as so many people have stated. It's for your federal student loans--regardless of where you studied.

What about people you call who have no debt what so ever? I know that I haven't defaulted, but just to be sure I called my student loan company. They said I had never defaulted and they knew nothing about your company and said they never asked you to call me.

Okay you guys are all misunderstanding what's going on. I've been working at coast professional for a while and number one, I'd like to say how incredibly nice every collector there is. We record all our phone calls and have incredibly strict policies that A: ensure we are incredibly polite to every borrower. And B: give 0 info out until we verify the last 4 of the borrower's social according the the FDCPA Guidelines. We work for the federal government department of education not to "collect debts" but to GET YOU OUT OF DEFAULT. We provide incredibly helpful 9-12 month rehab programs that will get you out of default and stop wage garnishment a. Were here to help you. And if you're getting a call from a collector but you don't owe anything, just say we have the wrong number; it's our job to search every number related to the borrower to try and get in contact with them. So try to rethink the collectors as regular people at their job that are actually trying to prevent wage garnishments and CLEAR your defaulted student loans OFF your credit report forever. It's an excellent opportunity for borrowers in default.

Have been receiving calls from this number for several weeks.  Only lived here three months.  Apparently, people who had this landline number were real deadbeats since we've received numerous calls from collection agencies, attorneys, process servers, etc.  Yet, despite my best efforts Coast still keeps calling!  As if they do not believe me!  Now I check caller ID and ignore them.  Let them waste their time - I am not Mark or Christina.

this is a lie coastal financial may have rules against leaving messages for their own twisted purposes, the fact is I have seen no federal law prohibiting a collection agent from leaving a message.

Coastal financial is only calling you to fish for more money. They prey on people in distress just like a thief in the night.

You can contact the department of education directly and ask for a hearing before a judge as you have been paying on your student loan I'm sure the ruling will be favorable.

Coastal Financial are just trying to line their pockets with your money never work with these sleaze artists, talk to a lawyer or talk to a judge but never ever work with a collection agent who just wants your money.

This company is one that the Dept. of Education uses for collecting on defaulted student loans. It isn't a scam and they aren't fishing for ID theft, they are a legitimate collections company.

If you owe the debt, pay it. If you don't think you owe it, ask for proof of the debt and by law, they must provide you with physical proof that you owe the debt. If they call a number that you don't want to be called, tell them not to call that number. Again, by federal law, they can no longer call you there (Federal Fair Dept Collections Practices Act- or whatever it's called).

But as long as they follow federal law and you owe the debt, pay it. Because the next step the Dept. of Education will do is file a garnishment on your wages. And you can't bankrupt yourself out of Student Loan Debt. So, you either pay the debt you owe, or the judge will take your wages to pay it, but you will pay.

Coast Professional is legitimate and not se fly by night scam.

First off... your entire post looks extremelt uneducated!
Second, if instructed by the debtor to not contact anyone at any number except X number the collection agency is restricted to just that number as their only recourse unless legal action and a judgement have been filed.
Third and finally just who the hell do these people think they are to name themselves something like you did. makes you sound like an arrogant j*** off who needs a quick ego check of major proportions.

I don't get why a company with credentials and a file with BBB and a company website would be "fishing" chances are if they are calling you there's a reason and I guess the only way to figure out that reason would be to answer the call to figure out why it is they're calling. Or just not answer let them keep calling and complain on a website about them because that will solve everything.

I just got a call from 318-807-4500 on my work phone after blocking the number on my cell phone the day before.  Since it came into my work number and since I get calls from all over the country at work, I answered it.  They stated that they are from Educational Collections and stated that my wife put my number down as a reference.  I've been divorced for over 5 years and I don't know how on Earth they got my work number.  I told them I'm divorced and that I have nothing to do with her student loans.  Anyway, she's with Citibank student loan corps so her student loans wouldn't be going through collections.  The whole think was a scam.  Don't answer this number.  They are probably fishing to do identity theft.

Unfortunately not a scam just very poor FDCPA compliance. Coast Professional is a collection agency originally based in California that collects on federal and private student loans. NEVER give your SSN over the phone but if CPS is calling you contact your original lender or University to see if your account has been assigned to them..
