It's a seemingly legit company offering assistance with the SSA "Ticket to Work" program.  They left a message asking for someone I didn't know; I imagine that person's cell number got reassigned to me when I first activated my phone.

Anyway, I called them back to politely request they put me on their Do Not Call list and the lady I spoke to was nice as pie and very cooperative with me.

My advice is don't be a jerk and be civil when you request to be removed from their calling lists.  It could be that they're just calling you due to a case of mistaken identity, or they may very well have obtained your number from the SSA or public records.

i don't pick up unfamiliar or blocked numbers. they left a voicemail which i've transcribed:

"hi, this message is for [my full first name]. my name is rebecca and i'm calling from "disabled workers", and i was calling to talk to you about the "ticket to work" program. we can help you with going to college or a $500 incentive for working. please give us a call at our toll free number, 1-877-291-9806 or you can visit our website, www.passplanhelp.com and we look forward to speaking with you."

according to my phone the call came from waterloo, IA. the company itself appears to be on the up-and-up, however i'm concerned as to how they got my cell phone number, as i don't give it out to anyone.. i am disabled and on SSI, but the phone number on record should be the landline registered to my grandmother, not my personal cell phone. bit creeped out to be honest, though i do plan to do further research as i am in school and some extra help paying for it would be lovely. just not crazy about their shady methods.. send me a pamphlet in the mail, don't call my cell phone.

It is a social security ticket to work program. The disabled workers is a partnership company that takes part for disabled citizens to go back to work they receive a list of names from SSA they call you and you can decline the program it is not a a scam it is for ssa to find out if your interested in working. The program also helps you with insurance like health and also helps you to get on your feet. The ssa office says it is a option for all recipients to go   back to work but it is not a necessary. They are not forcing you to go back to work but is a choice to do so. The ssa office is aware of this program and this program also has a do not call list just request them to not to call you back and if they do not stop call ssa and explain to them what is happening and who is calling you. It is a ticket to work program to get people back to work....They are lowering the amount of people on the program to get them back to work regardless of what kind of disability you have they claim they can get you suitable work for you to be able to get back to work .... It is not a scam and not a requirement but for ssa to find out if you want to work or not.www.passplanhelp.com/?. Many times disabled americans are scared of being scammed but this is not a scam but a ticket to work ....

Got a call from them saying that Social Security told them that I can go back to work and that they are in charge of the Ticket to Work program and they want to help me get started in the program. I said, funny that Social Security didn't tell me that. And she hung up!

These dimwits must not understand that I can't work because of pain and I can barely walk two steps without tears streaming my face and spasms that nearly cause me to pass out, do they seriously think I would work as a Walmart greeter or from my home for pennies on the dollar  rather then go back to a good paying job that I loved,  was an excellent employee who could work any where, I m not at home because I like becoming impoverished living on less then those who never worked receive. It irks the devil out of me when I see foreigners who are here in the USA collecting SSI, they can't speak English, look very able bodied to me, but had to come here but now can't work, but they get food stamps and their utility bills paid too, I know they lived next door to me,  driving 50,000  dollar cars  and keeping windows open while we were working our hinds to make ends meet and this is also the tale I hear from physical therapist etc, who know I have to pay out while these liars pull the money out of all of us.  Do us a favor and call anyone who has a name you can't pronounce and you will be on the right track.

Got a call today at 5:33 pm...Although I don't usually answer unlisted calls I did answer this one because the number was similar to someone I know. Did not catch the person's name but she asked for me by my first name only. Claims she was calling for a disabled worker program and she would like to help me get set up. I  figured it was just a scam especially since it was getting close to Christmas  they seem to be more frequent and the local news station  just warned a couple of days ago about people calling claiming they are from the SSA and they were just scammers.  So I hung up the phone. After about 30 mins I made a call to this number from my cell phone and got a recording saying I had reached the office for disabled workers but all their offices were closed right now and to call back later. Did not give a time when they would be open. I really don't think this is legit because why did they not address me by my full name . I think it was just a scam and they were trying to get more info which i did not give them.
Going back to work??

I, too, just received a call from this agency/person. I have no idea who it is and why they would be calling me. I am blind. However, I have signed up for VR services through my state recently and I have a sneaking suspicion that SSA is investigating to see if I will say "sorry, i am already working, or I am already in school." I told the man I was possibly using VR services and when he asked if I were on SSI or SSDI I knew right then he only had a "piece" of my information. I began to question him as to how he had my number, my info and who gave it to him. He replied that the Ticket To Work Program gave them a "mailing/contact list". I advised I would contact my local SSA office to verify before speaking further. He referred me to their website to validate their information. Upon calling SSA the Director of the Regional Office stated that under NO circumstances would they give out anyones information, whether they were disabled or private information. She said that she will forward the information to her Supervisor and let them know. She also mentioned that when people sign up for Ticket to Work they AT THAT TIME, are informed of the hiring agency in their local area who they can work with and that someone from Iowa would not be helping someone in oh, let's say Georgia. Please do not give them any information at all! Your local representative will contact you if they need to speak with you and will NEVER ask you what form of SSA you're on, because they will know as will any agency working with them. I am just concerned with how much information these people truly have of him- like SSN! :(

You folks are wonderful. Any time I get a call from some a$$ **** I can come here and wuickly see what's up.  Got a call from this number, it shows up as "unavailable" which I doubt would be the case if this was some Government or goverment sanctioned entity.  I, too, am disabled with a rare immune disease.  The question I have is IF this isn't related to the actual government disability admin., HOW and WHY are these people getting our info and phone numbers?  Who is telling them we are disabled and making this some kind of calling-mailing list? No one has this info except my doctors and the SS admin.  I do not like this breach of privacy.

thank you all for being here!

I didn't answer an unknown call from 319-215-4543 at 9 a.m today.  A 30 second message that was left was a bit mumbled and hard to understand, but after numerous replays, I finally deciphered it and this is the exact wording:

"Hi, this message is for Luther.  My name is Nick and I'm calling from Disabled Workers.  I wanted to talk to you about the 'Ticket To Work' program.  They can help you with going to school or a $500 incentive for working.  Please give us a call; our toll-free number is 1-877-291-9806 or visit our website at www.passplanhelp.com to discuss the options.  We're looking forward to speaking with you and you have a great day."

There isn't anyone named Luther here, so it's either a scam or a wrong number.  After a quick search, and checking the official Social Security site for this program, I checked passplanhelp.com, and although it's extremely slow to load, and is a simple layout, it seems to be okay.  The site lists this contact info:

Home Office:

DisABLEd Workers
1903 W Ridgeway Ave Waterloo, IA 50701
Toll Free 1 877-291-9806 Ph: 319-215-4543
Fax: 888-504-7957

If they call again, I'll ask to be removed from their list, or I'll block the number.

Was just called...didn't catch her name. She said I had been cleared by Maximus, or something similar, to work or go back to school. I asked her who told you that? She said Maximus, a division of Social Security. I told her I can't work and she thanked me for my time and ended the call. I have MS and can't walk more than a few feet and have little control over the right side of my body. I'm deaf in one ear and only have 30% hearing in the other and have osteoporosis in my hips and back. I'm not capable of working or going to school! What kind of job do they think I could handle! I've been on full SS disability for ten years. Do they think my MS suddenly got better!

This could be a scam, don't know, but they seem to be calling people on SS Disability. How do they know that unless they got my number from SS!

i too am getting called by them but theres no one on the other end when i pick up...You can always google the number.  It seems like its passplanhelp.com   Its an employment network with Social Security for disabled.  Are you or someone at your household receiving Social Security Disability Payments?  Or maybe someone who had your # before.

I still dont understand how people like this can call you without your permission

They are with the Ticket to Work Program to help people with disabilities find work or money for school. If they help find work for you they also offer $500 incentives. This is a. Program usually for those already receiving Social Security Disability. Their toll free # to contact them back is 8772919806. Hope this helps.

Called and wanted me to go to work.  I have rheumatoid arthritis.  My hands are totally deformed.  My feet have nodules on the bottom,  put a marble in your shoe and you will get the picture.  If I carry any groceries in, the next day my arms hurt so bad I can;t stand it.  My hips hurt when I walk 15 feet.  I really can't imagine what kind of work they want me to do. Said they would call back the middle of April. I think I am totally disabled to work but you are welcome to call any of the four specialist Physicians that I have.  Blood work every 2 months also if you want blood.  Thank you,  Tonya Burris
