I receive calls from this group daily. Most of time, once I answer the phone, there's no one on the other end. (I've waited as long as 30 seconds for someone to respond.) Today, someone actually attempted to have a conversation with me. The woman would not tell me why she was calling. She insisted that I give her my address. When I told her that I do not give out personal information, especially when I don't know who the caller is or why they are calling me, she read my address and asked if it was correct.
If I owe someone money, I am happy to pay. However, I won't operate in code - give us your address and maybe we'll tell you why we called. That's ridiculous. State Attorney Generals spend a lot of time and money telling citizens not to give personal information to unsolicited callers. These companies need to find a new, more polite and professional way of doing business. Maybe start with:
- I am calling on behalf of _____________________ (company or organization).
- You did business with this organization in __________________ (date range).
- This business or organization's records show that you have an unpaid balance on your account.
- We would like to discuss this matter with you.
Now I have some general idea of why I am receiving the phone call. If I want to verify that there is an issue, I can call the named business or organization. Point being, there has to be a way to give me enough general information to be able to identify who is calling, for whom they are calling, and why they are calling.
I have been the victim of identity theft. It is not an enjoyable experience. In today's world, when someone calls and starts the conversation by refusing to tell you why they called, you'd have to be a complete idiot to start verifying personal information.

CBE group for more than 2 months every morning call with automated system requiring debt payment. Never had a chance to talk to a live person to explain that this is wrong number they are calling to. Legally it is intentional infliction of emotional distress and this company has to be sued and reported to BBB.

I just got a robocall from CBE asking for someone who was not me. It left a number to call, so I immediately called it. I explained nicely that I received a call from them for someone who is not me. She said "Okay, if you give me your number we'll take you off the list." I said, "Before I do, who are you?" She said "We're a company." Me: "Well I gathered that. What do you do?" Her: "We call people." Me: "Okay...well I'm sure I'll find you online." I thought, well they obviously have my number already, so I gave it to her. She said she would take me off the list. I just thanked her politely. Sooo we'll see if I get any more calls.
When you get a call like this, you need to quickly write the number down and respond asap so that they know you're quick to respond and that you mean business, but courtesy always gets a much better response, I've found. This has happened before from a company looking for my neighbor. It took a while to get someone on the phone, but once I did, the weeks of calling stopped immediately. Stay on top of these guys.
And if it's YOU they're looking for, the last thing you should do is avoid them. Most of these agencies will work with you, but don't agree to pay anything unless they send you, at your (polite) request, a statement with the information of the original handover from who you owed, to them. Ask for proof. They must send it. If they don't, then they could be scamming you.

I recently moved from the west coast to the east coast and from day one I have received numerous calls from this "collection" agency asking for "Ms Joyner". I have explained to the callers that I'm not Ms. Joyner. I do not know Ms. Joyner. And that my home phone is a new phone number for me. They say "thank you", sometimes. However, most of the time they just hang up on me "mid-sentence". I realize that there are some that will pretend that the caller has reached a wrong number and that's unfortunate not to be truthful in all of your business. But what am I to do? Yes, I can call the phone company and ask for an uncirculated phone number, call all of my family, friends and business associates and give my new number--but why should I, when I'm not Ms. Joyner! Now, I've started receiving automatic calls from them instructing me to call them back on a toll free number. This is all nonsense. There must be a more ethical way to do business.

SO if you owed money why didn't you pay yours??? Using the excuse of a prepaid card is not an excuse. You could have withdrew the money and sent it via money order. Take your own advice next time!

CBE group Inc calls a business wanting to talk to an employee on company time. The employee has a phone number so please quit calling the business and contact the person on his personal time-personal phone.

I am getting calls every morning at 8:05 am. When I pick up the phone, they state that they are a debt collector and they are asking me to call them. The number that they are asking me to call is inaudible. When I call the number that appears on the caller id, I am told to leave a message an someone will get back with me. It is so annoying and harrasssing.

They just started calling us last night....but they were calling when it was almost 9 pm! How is that legal??? I had a migraine and was about to go to bed since my kids were asleep and suddenly the phone starts to ring. At that hour of course I assume it's an emergency, nope it was them. They called again just a little bit ago.

Actually it is...calling anyone, whether they owe the debt or not, to the point it is harrassing, that individual is a violation...and I am quite sure these days people can show judges and juries how often a company calls.

I disagree!!!!
I was walking home from work two years ago where I was mugged and beaten. A person who saw this going on called the police. I woke up in the hospital with some bruises and cuts but nothing serious. They had me hooked up to all kinds of machines and told me I needed a CAT scan because of the lump on my head. I told the doctor no, I don't have insurance and I'll come back if I start experiencing concussion symptoms. Two weeks later I got a bill for a little over $7,000 dollars that I couldn't pay nor I felt I needed to pay. Yes I received medical help but I never asked for an ambulance ride (the hospital was a couple miles down the road yet still cost over $4,000) or their medical services, I felt fine besides being pissed my money on hand was stolen. I refused to pay and shortly after started getting called and harassed by CBE employees treating me as though I'm a degenerate and inferior.
you say grow up and pay the money, well after what I experienced, you are utterly wrong. If you did your research you will find the ugly truths behind CBE and the millions they collect from people that already paid or are tricked much more than they owe. Please loose your positive notions of this evil company.

I work for a dentist office. We get a call from "CBE" as is says on the caller ID at least 4 times EVERYday. Everytime we answer whoever is on the other line hangs us. This is a place of business and we do not have time for this. Please take us off your call list. Thank you.

This group keeps calling me too. I don't know how they got my number becayse it is a cell phone and they aren't even calling for me. If you fill a class action suit please let me know because I am very interested in joining it. These people need to be taught a lesson and bringing a suit against them seems to be the only way they will get the message.

I keep getting automated calls on my cell phone from a CBE group asking if I am some other person. I cannot even tell the machine not to keep bothering me, waking me up and interrupting other phone calls because they have the wrong phone number.
