I got a call from "Jim" who had an Indian accent. The number came up as "unknown". Jim told me that my computer had downloaded spyware and malware and was now sending error messages. I told him that I hadn't received any error messages.

Jim then told me that my computer was sending the messages to their server and affecting their company.

I was at work and asked him to give me information about the errors. He did not answer my questions. Jim then asked whether I was using a desktop or laptop. I did not answer him, but asked for his phone number.
He gave the 321-355-6949. I asked for a follow-up call later in the day and hung up.

I just got a call phone a number that showed up as private number but same message. Calling from microtech support and saying that I have a virus on my computer. I told him that I dont have any software that would call me for a virus alert and that this was a scam. He said no its not a scam and then he eventually hung up. But he had a very thick indian accent.

Got a call from them indicating that I had a virus that Microsoft detected on their server and they were
their rep to fix it.  They gave me this number.  I entered it in after refusing and found that this was
indeed a scam.  Voice was Indian; luckily very hard to understand.

Prank Call
I got a call from "Microtech". He said his name was Matt Williams (but had a very heavy Indian accent). He said my PC was putting out error messages and asked me to turn it on. Unfortunately, my computer does have a problem. When you turn it on, it boots up to an error message. I played along and he gave his number as 312-355-6949. He said I needed to completely reinstall the operating system and that his technician could do this with me for only $179.95. He said that the person would be a "certified Microsoft technician". Although I selected "Prank Call" as type of call, I think this is more serious than Prank. I call it "Scam Call".
Is there any way to report this (e.g., to Microsoft) or is it pointless?
P.S. "Matt Williams" does a severe injustice to all persons from India.

Prank Call
I just got the same call from "Michael"  he had an Indian accent.  My daughter told me about a similar call last week so I immediately took my laptop off line and tried to grill him for information.  He also gave Microtech and told me to check Microtechsupport.com and gave the same phone number.  He was going to have me run some things on the computer and I told him to get lost.  Sounds like a huge hacking scam.  BEWARE.

Got a call from the above number, from "kevin". Said I had a virus going to server. This is on a new install of xp. Know that there is no virus. Gave me a number to call back. 321 355 6949, which appears to be a mobile number. They confirmed my number, from caller id? However, there was a lot of weird noise on the phone, so I hung up. Sounds like a total scam to me. I checked with a friend of mine. He runs linix. Says he got the same call, same number, same name. I am going to stay away.

Telemarketer
Called my mother at her home (in a different state) and told her my computer had a virus. Totally a bogus and unwarranted call. I have not lived at my parents house for 10 years.

"Kevin" called to tell me he represented Microtech Support and that my computer was sending error messages due to a virus.  I told him he was trying to scam me and hung up, and he called back to give me his name, company and phone number to verify.  I referred him to the MicroTech Support website which states that they do not call people and hung up again.
