Oh, what I don't understand is how that went to collections so quickly. The call started within 1 month of going to the hospital.  There was not much of an opportunity for me to pay for the bill before it went to collections.

It is the schumacher group. An ER staffing company trying to collect an unpaid medical bill.  Tell them to call Barak Obama at the oval offfice.  He will pay your bill.

Schumacher group.  A nationwide ER staffing company who essentially plays middle man between the ER physician and the hospital.  They collect the all the ER physician fees an then pay the physician a miniscule fraction of the total bill.  Still don't understand why hospitals choose to use them rather than employ their own ER physicians.  As usual, use the cheapest alternative rather than staff the ER with dedicated, competent, home grown physicians.
