I received a phone message at work taken by a co-worker with this number and a name of  Matt Collins. She said he wouldn't even give the name of the business he was calling from. I was puzzled but figured I would call as soon as I got off work. When I left work that day, I listened to a voice a message left on my cell phone from this same person, demanding that I return his call or it won't be good for me. He spoke in a thick middle east accent and I couldn't understand most of the message with any clarity. I don't owe any money, haven't been receiving calls or any kind of mail regarding law suits or owing money or any kind of issues. It was starting to feel kind of creepy. Before I even reached home, my friend called and said this same person had called her, saying I had used her as a reference and that it would be in my best interest, if she contacted me and gave me his name and number and insinutated it would not be good for me if I did not return his call. Again, she said he would not even tell her where he was calling from. Well I decided this was too creepy for me, I have no idea what this could even be in regards too, but decided before I call him back I'm getting on the internet and researching this phone number, I needed an idea of what this was all about. It comes up on every reverse phone # website I've been on, but of course I must pay for the info. I've even looked on the white and yellow page websites for Los Angeles, where it comes up unpublished. I did learn that it is a landline in  an L.A. This man knew how to contact me at work, had my girlfriends phone number and yet I have never heard from him or the company name he works for but won't reveal or a piece of mail  from anyone addressing any kind of debt or issue. I'm not comfortable calling him until I can get to the bottom of this.

I got the same calls and messages. First an Allen O'Conor, then a Bret Nelson, and several others. They wish me luck, say that harsh things will happen to me, so on and so forth. I called the actual CarlSmith Ball lawfirm, last night and they said that this wasn't the first phone call they've got, and that it's a scam. These people are calling from a call center in India trying to scare people into paying them. I notified the FBI in Washington D.C and they are lookinh into the situation, and all of the numbers that have called my cell. I have saved all the voicemails they have left, notified the 3 credit agencies,so maybe this will end soon.

I suggest the FCC or State's attorney but then again depending on what state you live in.  I got six calls last night on my cell and two on my home and today this dude "now steve" called ten times already eight on cell and two on home.  You can tell he is reading from a script and I hear other voices in the background (scam lab).  You know it is bogus.  Hopefully, they will get tired of calling and not getting anyone.  He gives the same spill everytime.

I'm receiving similar messages.  The person calling me says his name is Steve Green and tells me my name is associated with legal allegations.  He says I should call or my lawyer for my safety.  These calls violate the Fair Debt Collection Act.  Does anyone know who to report calls like these?

same thing happened to me.  His name this time is "greg".  Called my cell phone and then I believe my home phone.  Left message about legal actions against me, etc.  He mispronounced my name and had a very thick indian accent.  Scams are rampant out there.  Beware all.

I started receiving calls at my job from someone calling from CIB stating they were a lawyers office and I was being sued for a payday loan I took out and never paid back. I knew something was up because when I spoke to the representative they were rude and would not give the name and contact number of this so called payday loan company so I may speak with them directly. They call me continuously at my job so I came online to see if they were real and I read all of your responses and know they are scammers. How can I go about reporting them and protecting my information because they know my place of employment, ss#, phone  # and address.

Update! The office manager at Smith Ball informed me that this is a bogus call. He stated that this group of scam artists is working out of Indian. He advised us to make a report with our local police department and the three national credit companies.

Hi, My husband received a call from this same telephone number today about 3:30 p.m.(est).  The caller, also with a heavy Middle Eastern accent, identified himself as Lance Morris from Smith Ball Attorney office in Los Angeles, California.  He recited my husband's email address, social security number, and other vital information. The caller said that my husband had an account with a certain bank last year (untrue), that he took out an online loan with Cash America in Los Angeles (untrue) and that he had an outstanding balance of $400.  My husband was so upset, so I decided to place a call to the office. Lance Morris said he was only calling to collect the outstanding balance. He moved his mouth from the telephone and started chatting with someone in the background. I picked up that he was getting his information from that person and only repeating it to me and I let him know it. He told me that he is going to sue me also with my husband for $8,000.  I knew this was a bogus call because of his lack of professionalism.  I called Smith Ball Attorneys office in Los Angeles and asked for Lance Morris and, of course, no Lance Morris works for the firm.  I was transferred to the office manager's voice mail and stated the reason for my call and asked him to call me back.  Thanks to everyone for posting. You have helped us tremendously.

It is a scam google #718-709-5956 they also use this number.  They are trying to scam you out of money.  Do not fall for it.  I have received several calls stating they are calling about a payday loan I had.  I have never had a payday loan. If you tell them you know it is a scam they get mad and cuss you out but the calls stop

I received the exact same phone call. About the exact same thing this man has all my information so i would definitely look into it. I am now in the process of changing everything because I do not want anyone having my ss number, my address, my bank account information. I would be careful and really look into it. I had a thick middle eastern accent man call me as well telling me I'm being sued for a loan I never received and have bank statements to prove it. He asked me for the statements and I won't send them to him because he won't tell me his name or where he's from. My lawyer called and he cursed my lawyer off and then hung up on him several times. Just a heads up that it IS a scam and be careful with what info this man has of yours!
