This number has called my NYC cellphone (which is a new number and has NOT been given out to anyone but friends and family) at least a dozen times over the past week.  No messages.  Anyone know who it is? I was about to spend $15 for a reverse phone number trace (all I can get for free is that it's a landline in LA).

Telemarketer
Like other posters here, I received a call from this number, from a man claiming to be with the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I have no way of knowing if he is telling me the truth, or a lie. I do know that when I pressed him for information, he said that he would call back, left several seconds of silence. This was enough time for me to write down his phone number from my caller ID.

If he was legitimate, he would have answered my questions instead of saying that he would call me back. This tells me that calls from 323-330-1431 are telemarketers (and possible scammers) instead of from any legitimate non-profit.

I have eMailed and written to the Metropolitan Musuem of Art, with a transcript of the comments from this page, suggesting to them that IF they have contracted out their fundraising, they should get a NEW contractor as the present one is most unprofessional and annoying...I too am a member of the Musuem and I do not appreciate all the calls, at all hours, with no messages.  Here is the Metropolitan Museum of Art contact info:

NY Metropolitan Museum of Art looking for donations

Non-profit Organization
Indeed, it's the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Donor Service (which seems to be based in LA).
I guess they are collecting donations before the end of the fiscal year. A very polite lady immediately offered to put me in the "do not call" list.

I have received calls from this number 323-330-1431 (MET) on my home phone almost every day for the last 3 weeks. Never a voice mail.  I live in Georgia.  Never lived in LA, and never a member of the MET.  My number is on the donotcall list.  How do I stop this caller?

I have been receiving these calls lately as well, just starting in the past week. I have an expired membership at the Metropolitan Museum. I just now wrote to the membership department at the Met and told them about this - we'll see what they say. I find it hard to imagine this world-class museum would utilize such low-class marketing techniques. I am in the museum world and think this is a scam.

?(323) 330-1431 from Los Angeles, CA, keeps calling my phone at weird times. Monday, Thursday, and now tonight at 7:55. Never a message, just a few seconds of recorded air. I called back tonight. A machine answered, " Thank you for calling the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art," then music, then I guy picked up. I hung up on him. I will call back again, I guess. Maybe Wednesday would be best.

I got the same missed call almost daily for the last week or so. I finally called back today, the prompt says that you're reached the "Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art"...funny, never heard of that one before...It's a recording that says a representative will be with you shortly. Someone quickly picked up, and you heard A LOT of background noise, like someone was answering the phone standing in the front atrium of the actualy Museum itself. A woman who claiming her name was "Darcy" from "The Met" said that she was looking to speak with (my name). I told her I was confused about the museum she was calling from, and she lied saying it was the metropolitan museum of art...pushing her on this point, I told her never to call me again.

Getting calls every couple of days for the past few weeks.  This is a California exchange (LA) but I see from the posts that this is either from the Met (outsourcing?) soliciting or someone else using their name.
I was a member of the Met too several years ago. These arts organizations are acting desperate but I'm not sure I believe the Met Museum needs to harass people to get money. Their endowment is pretty huge.
Anyway, just adding my comments so people realize this is still going on--looks like for over 3 years now. Amazing.

Annoying.  I wish they would stop calling and leaving no messages.  I have no idea who they are or why they keep bothering me and using up my voicemail for a hangup sound, over and over and over.  STOP CALLING ME!  I am on the Do Not Call registry and unless you have a real and legitimate reason to call me for which you should actually leave a message, then STOP CALLIING ME!

Solicitation call to our home phone.  We are on the Do Not Call list, and should not be getting calls from this number or anyone like it.  We are not nor have we ever been members of the Met Museum.  The calls come frequently with no message ever left.

this is Met Museum of Arts calling.  called me as well even on weekends and never left a voice mail.  Finally, i called back and spoke with a person at the Met.  Asked them to take me off the list and told then that this is a very tacky and unpleasant way to solicit donations.

we have been getting frequent calls from "the met museum" over the past week or two. the number corresponds to 323 330 1431.  this is a los angeles prefix.  we are not members of the metropolitan museum and there is no reason that they should be calling.  they do NOT leave a message.

Yes. I was a Metropolitan Museum member. I think we solved the mystery. Someone is trying to get money making believe believe it is the Met. I saw someone in the string report them. That's great. Can anyone tell me how to block these calls from my cell phone? Is there a charge? Thanks - very glad to know I wasn't the only one getting these weird calls.

I've been getting calls from this number, several a day, for the past few months.

Caller-ID says the "Met Museum" -- which is located in Los Angeles and isn't affiliated with the Metropolitan Museum in New York.  Called the number and got a busy signal.

Further investigation showed that the number is "owned" by Paetec Communications, Inc, in California which is a "Competitive Communications Provider."

This number has been calling my home number for the past week, at least 3 times a day.  I do not answer and they do not leave a message.  I googled the number and found that it is in California.  On my caller ID it says "Met Museum" and I googled the Met Museum and there is no number there that matches anything listed with the Met.  I, too, used to be a member...I stopped my membership when I retired from teaching 4 years ago.  I am reporting the number to the FCC and to donotcall.gov...I am on the donotcall list and should not be getting telemarkers.  I am also going to contact the Met Museum and inform them of the calls and if it is them to stop calling me.

I have gotten 2 calls over the past few days from this number and didnt answer when the call came in. Calling the number back goes to the Met Museum voicemail. I was a member at one time so I suppose they are soliciting for donations. Was anyone else ever a museum member?
