I nearly lost SGD $1,550.00 today. I listed a Canon EOS 1100D online 2 nights ago. This person by the name of Anne William replied me pretty swiftly. As I thought she was a serious buyer, I even told her of my other products available. Within 15 mins, she replied that she wanted EVERYTHING. I gave her my inventory which will cost her a whopping SGD $305,600.00, she replied after 30mins saying that everything is ok with her.

I thought that she was REALLY a serious buyer, or even an importer / exporter, I didn't think so much of it. Paypal even sent me an email telling me to send the shipper via Western Union a sum of SGD $1,550.00 before they will release the full amount to my bank account. As i was taking down the details of the shipper, I found that the postal code was different. I only found out that I was scammed when I 'googled' the address.

Have since reported the issue to PayPal and have forwarded all the email conversation that I had with this Anne William.

Would like to urge everyone, including myself, to make checks with all related bodies (eg. PayPal) before proceeding to remit monies to some people that we do not know.

We just received the same reply to our ad on gumtree and I have now sent back a reply to tell Ryan that I will be contacting the authorities and gumtree tomorrow, thanks for these posts stopped us from being ripped off.

I sent his emails plus the scam paypal advices straight to Paypal at

I reported this to Gumtree but they did not bother to respond to me.

I took the liberty to send as many emails as possible to people on Gumtree advertising Jewellery to let them know what happened to me last week requesting them to be on their guard.

I advertised a $4000 engagement and wedding ring set on Gumtree last week. I listed the ring for $700.
I received a text messasge on my mobile phone advising they wished to purchase my ring set asking me to email the following person:

I immediately got on the email and sent this person a message. He replied back to me saying that he lived on the outskirts of town in America and that he could not get into town but wanted to buy my ring set. He said he would pay me via Paypal Payment but required me to advise him of the postal costs to America by Australia Express Post. I sent him postal costs and I received an email from a Paypal Website stating that they had withdrawn $1763.00 and was holding the money awaiting for a Tracking Number. They ordered me to post the item immediately and advise tracking number and as soon as I advised the tracking number they would deposit funds into my Paypal Account.
I got suspicious as to: number 1) why pay me a $1000 more for the item, and number 2) Paypal put the money straight into the Paypal Account when received, they do not hold.
The person sent me email stating that he had paid the money and ordered me to send the item immediately. I refused. I could not ring Paypal until the following morning, which I did. Paypal told me not to communicate with this person any further and send all communication ie; emails and Paypal advices straight to spoof@paypal.com.au. Within approx 10 minutes Paypal sent me back an email stating this is a Scammer from America. The ordered me to delete all emails off my computer and not to communicate with this person whatsoever.

Thank you all for this blog!! I was just about to (stupidly)ship a vintage hamilton beach mixer tomorrow to this address from my home in Toronto, Canada. I just decided to type in the address since I was always a little suspicious and this page came up. Unbelievable!! What a scam! When I told the "buyer" that someone else was interested in the mixer, he emailed back and offered me an extra $100, no questions asked about the item, etc. I told him it is very heavy and will be expensive to ship. He replied he wants to still buy it as he has been looking for this particular item for quite some time and please don't let me loose it. Alot of broken english and spelling mistakes made me suspicious as did the desperation in wanting "the item" and the insistence of giving my Paypal address so he can make payment right away. Thanks again. We good people all need to help each other to beat these poor excuses for human life.
