number dials my phone multiple times during the day. no messages left. if i answer, no one speaks on the other end.

I have the same problem...really not sure what this would be for, since I don't owe any bills or loans.

This number calls, leaves no message. When I call back the number it disconnects me on the second ring.

It's the Gas Company switchboard, it's not a number you can dial into.

got a call twice in one day from this number within 3 minutes, no one says anything...

They called my cell and didn't leave a message.

They then called my home phone 10 seconds later and when I answered, they went through the collection agency bit.

In my case, it's for a private student loan.

They're using a scam with the utility company switchboard thing in order to throw people off their scent.

Sempra Energy collection call for a move out gas and electric bill

It is the GAS company, not school loan, it does say Sempra something, and cuts off when you call it back...got to be the Gas their the only ones I didnt pay this month! :/

Same story here. My bill is due today and that number rang me this afternoon. This isn't the first time though. My call logs show they also called last January 12th, and before that last year on August 3rd 2010. In august apparently I actually stayed on the line with them for 51 seconds.

Maybe it's not a scam or maybe it is. All I know is that I live in an 818 area code and it seems there is something odd about the phone system they're using. I'm theorizing it may be an automated switchboard that dials a data list of customer numbers while some poor underpaid Gas Company employee just sits there waiting for the call to be connected. My guess is that they get so many non-pickups, voice-mails, and busy signals that most of them have fallen asleep by the time a customer actually answers.

the past 3 mornings around 10:30- 10:45am I get a call from this number nothing but dead air it's gettin old and annoying

I received a call from this number and the same thing happened to me. there was no one on the line when I picked up and it was a non working number from Sempra when I called back. I also do not have service with them and I have never had service with them... I do think that this is a possible scam... I just don't understand how you can get a phone call from a number that does not work...

I too have a overdue gas bill, but it seems odd they are just now doing this?  Never before have they called.  Strange... possible creditor scam?

they called twice and wouldn't speak. when i said, "this is the second call I have receievd from this number and I cannot hear you," they hung up promptly. I do have a delinquent gas bill, so after reading the above, I am figuring that is what this is about.

For what it's worth, I am in LA county and use "The Gas Company" a/k/a Sempra. My bill was overdue-just paid it today. I received the same call yesterday from this number. Was this a courtesy call?

No one on other end of the line.  The message I got when I called back was "The number you dialed is not a working number, please check the number and dial again".

It just happened too me too, wtf is going on?
