Officer Alex Johnson, investigating... my name is on a contract created by my son-in-law and they are investigating a fraud...

Total bad deal, when I reverse sourced the phone number that he left for me to call back "urgently" I saw several other people had already ID'd the call as a fraud. jk

Wasn't "Alex Johnson" but rather someone named "James" with a rather thick foreign accent, identifying themselves as "legal investigating officer"

Left message saying to call them urgently.  Didn't seem like a scam outright until he said (with his barely intelligible accent) to call him back immediately - otherwise I will "know what happens to people who break the law."  Dare I say he got his big boy pants on that day and actually TRIED to sound tough, but it was utter failure on his part.

Unfortunately, scamming innocent people with phone fraud and "scare" tactics isn't against the law where ever this "James" comes from...  At any rate, figured I'd post this for the benefit of others.

That is word for word what they say to me and my husband when they are trying to reach me!! They call me too! From all sorts of numbers. Claiming they are an "officer of the law" with some sort of indian accent and that there will be police officers coming to arrest me with all these bogus charges against me on a phony payday loan that I supposedly had... they even had names of friends that I have previously used as referrences on other things. They've even called me back after I hang up calling me a "b*tch" and "stupid lady... that's all you are is a stupid worthless lady" and one even said "i will track you down and kick your a**" I called the FTC and our state's Attorney General and they both said it's a scam and the only thing I can do is change my number or hang up as soon as I realize it's them and not to give them money. They also gave me a list of information that would help determine the difference between a real debt collector and a scammer. A debt collector HAS to send you a written notification with in 5 business days of the first contact. Also, a debt collecting agency and officer CANNOT make ANY sort of threats against you whatsoever... not even to garnish wages. If they do so and it is reported, they can receive fines starting at $10,000. My husband is in the military so we can't just change our phone numbers, there are way too many people we would have to notify, so we contacted our cell phone providers and downloaded a phone number blocking program and add those numbers to the list as they call. They stop calling for a while but eventually find a number that isn't on the list.

Ms. Dee - PROTECT YOURSELF! This is indeed a scam. They have stoeln your information.  They got mine when I applied for a loan over the internet - which I never accepted becuase the terms were so harsh - now every couple of months I get these calls.  They come form different numbers and these crackpots use different names - but always have heavy middle eastern accents with names like "Kevin" "Mike" etc.  They threaten all kinds of crazy stuff they cannot due - someimes even claim to be working for law enforcement or the federal government. One time they even siad they were form the United Nations Legal Dept.  Check out the post from "this just in" under the number 425-905-7100 on this site - it has alot of informaiton about this scam.  You should put a fruad watch on all you accounts and may want to change your cheking and/or savings.  Report ans other calls you get on this site to warn others and alos to you state attoeny general. There is also a website - www.ic3.gov - you should report it there also. Good luck - you may get more calls - these people are theives who need to be kicked off the planet.  Also - beware - sometimes they put up fake posts under thier numbers to make themselves look legitimate - these posts are pretty easy to spot by the wording.

I received a call on my job from someone name Jame Brown and someone name John or James Henry claming I owe them money for a loan I don't know nothing about and threatened to take me to court but gave me no evidence of legal actions.  Who are these people?  They have heavy foreign accents and you can't understand them on the phone.  With names like the above mention are they for real, or scamers.

caller claimed a lawsuit was being processed tomorrow against me and filed with the state attorney.  would not give me his companies name and when I asked to speak to his supervisor he wouldn't let me.  I continued to ask for a supervisor (stating that I could not understand him clearly because of his accent) and he hung up on me.
