This is a company called ACT (Account Control Technology) based out of San Angelo, TX. They collect on defaulted student loans. So, if they are asking you people for your maiden name it probably because that is the name you put down on your student loan application. They work in conjunction with the U.S. Dept of Education to get resolution on accounts that are LONG overdue. When you sign a master promissory note with US Dept of Education, they take you at your word that you will pay the money back. However, if you are stupid enough to think you don't have to pay back your student loans, then you deserve to get calls. Word to the wise...or unwise in this case....PAY YOUR DAMN BILLS!!!!!! Own up to your mistakes! Get into a payment plan and stop bitching! :)

This agency has been calling my cell phone and all the other lines on my account. I am not sure where he got that information. Also asking for me under maiden name, almost 9 years since I have been under that name.

A guy with a Hispanic accent called and left a VM message saying he hoped he'd gotten the right number & is looking for [my current married name] or [my name from a previous marriage]. He said his name is 'Julio', that he was calling from San Angelo, TX (caller ID confirmed that) and that he really needed me to call him back immediately, that it was really important. He didn't sound like a professional person at all and there was an urgency in his voice and he even sounded worried or concerned about something. Very strange. I right away started thinking about any relatives of mine that may be traveling in the area thinking something may have happened and here was just this concerned guy calling me. Decided to check on-line and looks like he's been reported by others. It's a bit unnerving that he knew both my current and previous last name (haven't used that name for 10 years now).
