The incoming # was 909-203-7011 in Calif. When I answered it, a "James Settles" claimed to be looking for my son, who has not lived in CA for over 2 years. He then proceeded to tell me it was "confidential", and gave me this # to have my son call him back. The name wasn't correct, either. And a real bad phone line.
Guess I don't have to do that now.
My son is a double amputee and has MS.
He doesn't need this s#!t in his life.
Where is his protection?
Thank you, US gov.

I have been receiving random calls while I'm at work for the last week or so. I received another weird number calling me today which is an off day for me. I answered and the man on the other line sounded surprised that I answered. He asked for me and I told him he was speaking to her. Then he wanted to verify I was the right person he wanted to speak with. He rambled off a birth date and the last four of someone's social which wasn't mine. Then we hung up. What is this? He gave me his name but never told me who he worked for.

Just a follow up on my prior posting re ACT.  There is a website at https://www.accountcontrol.com/ which appears to be a legitimate business.  In spite of the fraudulent representation, I decided not to to file a police report, yet.  In general if someone calls you and lies to you about their intent, motive, or purpose to obtain something from you  (including information) that is fraud.  If you are in another state it could be interstate fraud, which is a Federal issue although some states retain or assume duplicate jurisdiction.  The safest thing to do is to report the call to your local police department.  Be sure to keep notes of your conversation and include those in your report.  If you are having financial problems, go to the library and get a book on fixing your credit.  If you can afford it you can get books on the subject from Amazon.  Try searching for titles from "NOLO" which publishes a series of books on legal issues, including how to fix your credit, deal with old debts, and stop collection efforts, many of which violate the law assuming you do not know your rights.  Since I don't owe anything which would involve ACT (that I know of anyway), this appears to be a call to obtain information from me about someone else under false pretense.

Account Control Technologies uses this number.  They called me looking for a person who did not exist, but the caller ID said the number was from TX so I called back wondering if they were some kind of threat to my grand kids who live in Texas.  Allegedly they were looking for "lasara" but then the caller said they were looking for "Lasara Homes".  Lasara Homes is all over the internet.  When I called back I got "Hello this is Jeremy from ACT" who was a live person, who did not supply any information because he had to get back to work.  He asked for my name, and I said, you have it on caller ID.  I told him I was calling back to check on his call (about 2 minutes before).  He said "just a moment, let me look in my log".  After about 40 seconds he returned, with "I guess I recently called...."  I explained I returned the call to investigate after checking the number on the internet because my grand kids live in Texas.  He assured me he was no threat.  I told him that lasara homes was all over the internet.  They lie about their motives which is fraud.

I have received multiple calls from this number. Caller ID says "Account Control". It rings twice only before I pick up, and when I answer, there is silence, then it disconnects. I have called the number back (hoping to stop the calls)... I get a voice mail that says you've reached the desk of [man's name], "please leave a detailed message including your name and account # or social security #." The company calling is never identified. Is this a scam??
