Here is an article from the NY times to help block cell phone SMS spam.  Most mobile companies have blocking services you can activate to thwart internet SMS spam.

I agree, this type of texting is  irritating. I replaced my phone's on the DoNotCall list 3 weeks ago and all of the sudden I am recieving telemarketing. I will place a compliant with DNC today.

I put myself on DNC list back in April specifically to avoid telemarketers & now it seems they are just reaching out via text. I got the text telling me to call a # and claim a $200 Target gift card. Didn't respond - Googled and found out it's been happening to other people too. It's a shame! Why can't they stop these people from this kind of harassment/solicitation??

I'm Stupid, I replied!

I called T-moble they don't have this number on there records.

its not shut down, I just got a text from that # about a free trial of VanishAGE and to call 888 407 4847 for my free trial.  Moments before that, I got a text from 702-366-4243 telling me to call 877 232 5147 for my free $140 Gift Card.   Both say to reply STOP to opt out, but I'm sure all that does is confirm its a valid phone# and they sell it to telemarketers.

Got text messages today from 2 different #s, this was one of them offering a $140 gift card voucher if I called another #. The other # was 216-526-8176 offering $1500 cash loan.

I checked the # used to send the text message (330-208-8684) & it said it was a T-Mobile phone out of Akron Ohio. The other # was also a T-Mobile phone out of Cleveland Ohio.

So, Guess what I did? I called T-mobile! I got their Customer Service # (877-453-1304) & when prompted (after saying I didn't have a tmobile #),I said "calling about something else".Got a rep on the phone & explained what had happened.He was very upset & took all the info I could give him & said he would turn it over to their fraud dept. & the # would be shut down,I think he said something about within 48 hours?!

I had forgotten until now that this happened last summer,getting text messages from telemarketers. I did a reverse lookup then & called the company that the phoneservice came from & reported it.Iwas told then that most phone services have fraud departments,& if you report fraudulant or harrassing calls coming from their service,they are very diligent to take care of it because it gives THEM a bad name!
