I have gotten at least 3 calls a day for the past week from this #. I usually don't answer unknown calls, but after a few days of this, I started answering and noone ever says anything. Have tried to call the # back, but it says out of service.

I got a call 8/07/07 at 9:21 MST time... Same Number came up on my cell .  I too called this number back and I get the message that it was disconnected.

these people are annoying, they call me several times A DAY and i never answer, i tried calling and it said theyre out of service....how on earth could that be possible.....if you guys have a CHASE credit account, it could be them!  i think theyre comin after me lol

I also get this call.  I haven't tried to call it back. I get the call about once or twice a day.

They call at 8:15 every morning. First at my house, then to my cell. I've tried answering to a hang up and calling back. If people can't leave messages then they shouldn't call!

I have been getting calls from them from 8am until 9pm, but I can't call them back.  Nobody says anything when I pick up.  I worked at a company whose number was similar to a fraudulent collection agency and we got calls from people all the time.  If you think it is from GE or Chase, call your local chapter of the Department of Finance.  If you have a credit card, call the number on the back to find out of they have been trying to contact you, as it will be noted on your account as to time and day.  You may also check with the BBB if you can get the company's location or name, I have not been able to find that information as of yet.  If you do speak with anybody, do NOT give them ANY information, even if they know your name, address, ect.  This is classic fraud.

I JUST got a call from them too!  They've been calling me as well several times a day.  I have no idea who they are.  I don't even have any credit cards!  Same phone # here too!  They started calling me about a week ago!!!  I tried calling it as well and it says it's not in service!!!  I answered it once but no one said anything so I just don't answer it when I see that number.  If anyone can figure out who it is, please let me know.  Thanks!!

Its not a scam. JCPenny's credit is done by GE Money. I worked for them, they have people from India and Ohio calling on accounts. Most likely you're getting the call because you aren't paying your bill. I'd suggest paying it, and you'd be ok, or call the number on the back of your card. The 330 area code is because the calls are coming from lines in Canton, OH, but they cannot take incoming calls.

These people call when I am not available, they never answer ,or the number is not in service. How can people discuss issues with them if, the name they say in unclear, then they hang up. I have 3 grown people in my household and neither of us has an indication who they wish to speak to

§ 806.  Harassment or abuse  [15 USC 1692d]:

A debt collector may not engage in any conduct the natural consequence of which is to harass, oppress, or abuse any person in connection with the collection of a debt. Without limiting the general application of the foregoing, the following conduct is a violation of this section:

   (1) The use or threat of use of violence or other criminal means to harm the physical person, reputation, or property of any person.

   (2) The use of obscene or profane language or language the natural consequence of which is to abuse the hearer or reader.

have had 2 calls a day for the past week.  when I call back, number is "not in service"  now I find out it's a collection agency.  Isn't it illegal not to have a reachable number to return a call?

ok, i've read through all of these post. At first, i was getting unknown calls on my cell phone and never answered them, but the number 330-649-7186 finnaly showed up on my phone today.

If it is from JCPenny, why am i getting it? I don't really shop at JCPenny and don't owe them anything credit wise. But i am starting to think it is because i sent someone my number over the internet, but i sent it to them without an area code. So how'd they find out my number?

Today, 8/23/07- this number (330-649-7186) called twice. no message.

This number has called me several times over the past few days.  I have not answered any of the calls.  I have tried to call this number back; however, get a recording that the number is not in service.

this is probaby someone who gets paid for names and numbers that are turned over to telemarketers. wouldn't be surprised if the caller I'd is being spoofed or if the one responsible has made their own not in service recording. record the message yourself and play it back when they call again.

Yep, got a call from them on Aug 14th at 1145am. Like everyone else is stating, I never answered the call because its unknown. I called it back and its "not in service" Must be some scam or telemarketer and there should be a site where we can report this number so that they dont keep getting away with it.

I get calls from 330-649-7186...I believe it is some GE money thing and I THINK they are calling about my JC Penney account which is one payment behind.  They NEVER leave a message, and as everyone else says, when you dial the #, it's not in service for incoming calls.  Guess they don't want to talk to people that badly after all huh?

I am pretty sure that it is from a collection agency for JCPenney.  Or at least they say they are.  I started receiving calls from them a few months ago on Saturday mornings around 8-9 am.  It was a man with an Indian accent wanting me to pay a minimum payment on my credit card.  We had just paid it off the week before and I was very suspicious of them.  I don't know if they are legitimate or not.  I have had this credit card for over 10 years, ususally always paid off, but sometimes I would pay a couple of months first.  I told the man when he called me the first time that I was very offended and was considering cutting my ties with JCPenney.  
I guess I should contact JCPenney directly and ask them what's up with the harrassing phone calls when your account isn't even over due. Or, maybe a day late.  It's very weird.  I leave my cell phone in the car and over the last couple of days they have called about 20 times.  It's the 330-649-7186 and then Unavailable after that over and over.  My bill isn't due until 08-18-07 and this is only the 13th.

Got 4 calls, answer and put on hold then disconnected.  Try to call back and then number not in service.  What is going on?  Is this not illegal?
