I received a phone call today which had a similar context to those listed below. I don't have caller ID, so I'm not sure if it's the same number, but I'm pretty sure it's the same type of scam. The scammer spoke in Spanish only (as someone mentioned before, he also had a noticeable Mexican accent), and claimed to be someone from Mexico who I knew very well. I obviously didn't recognize the voice, so I asked him who he was, but he wouldn't tell me and wanted me to guess. By this point, I was pretty annoyed...so I just played along with his game and asked him if he was my uncle [insert fake name] and asked about his [fake] 3 children. Then I apologized for taking so long to recognize his voice because I had LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of family in Mexico (I'm El Salvadorian btw, and have pretty much no family in Mexico).

I guess this made him uncomfortable, so he said that the reception was getting bad and he would call back. 5 minutes later, he called back, but I had my mom answer. He was claiming to be that same [insert fake name] uncle from Mexico. I'm not really sure what he told her, but based on her facial expression and the rolling of her eyes, it was probably complete BS...something about making a stop to Mexico before coming to the states, and needing someone to pick him up. At that point, we just hung up on him. He tried to call back 3 times, then gave up when he realized that the scam was up. Seriously buddy, get a real job.

We just recieved a call from this number. He was asking for my dad, and he was here at home. This was the second time that we recieve a call of this type, first was in december, but the first call was my mom who answered it but thank God she is smart and didn't give any info; this time my dad answered him and told him that he owed us money and the guy was saying that he was gonna pay us from the money that my dad was supposed to send him, then after a while the guy hung up. But after 5 minutes the guy called back saying that he wanted to pay us, but my dad was sick of the charade and told the guy that we were tracking the call and that police would come for them and that they should stop doing this calls.

The same as Arturo, he called saying he was my cousin (my brother called him by name before he could announce himself) he said he was coming to Canada to pick up something for work and if he could stay.  He then said (since nobody old enough was home) he'd call back the next day.  The next morning he says he's in Mexico stuck at the border because he was bringing over $50,000 and we need to help bail him out with $4000 for taxes.  Anyways my dad figured it out and when he was asked real questions he just pretended he couldn't hear us.  Then just started swearing at my dad cause we figured him out and hung up.
I hope these douches get AIDS or cancer really soon.

A man called and spoke to me in Spanish asking for my family and claiming he was one of my cousins.  He insisted that I guess which one he was and wanted me to believe that he would be coming to visit us in Canada tomorrow but making a stop first in Mexico.  He wanted me to pick him up at the airport today and told me he would call once he arrived .This was a dude talking with a mexican ascent and was asking me for a south american relative who always call me, this guy some how knows the family last name...Must be because bell sell the telephone listings or some one else....
I born in latin america and  never trust anyone by the phone without identification or someone asking for money or crap ...Just use  common sense. It's a scammer,Here in canada we have a lot of scammers over the telephone...Este tipo de personas piensan que uno dormido esta en canada....Al agua quieren mojar....Pax tecum...

I told him to speak with my father to make arrangement but he insisted that he wanted to surprise him.  The whole conversation was very suspicious and since I have not spoken to my cousins in more than 20 years it was not too difficult to almost fool me.  His accent sounded Mexican and he asked me for my cell number.  After speaking with the police, they assured me that he would be asking me for money the next time he calls.  Be careful with these scam artists.  They can be very tricky and convincing.

My daughter received today a phone call from the same number.  He spoke in Spanish, with a Mexican accent, pretending to be a relative coming to visit as a surprise.  He promissed to call tomorrow, now from Mexico, asking her to be ready to go to the airport to pick up 4 people coming.  He was cheerful and trying to look friendly as a true family member who hasn't been in touch for years.  Definitely the Facebook was his source of information.  BE ALERT!!!

Guy called me up claiming to be an emissary from my brother who is in the military. He said he was involved in an outo accident in Tijuana and while he was carring an11k check to be cashed in the US. He wanted me to send him a substantial amount of money to pay off the other party, and of-course he'd pay me back once he got to San Francisco...I think these scanners ate getting much info from Facebook, then finding the phone number; sice he appeared to have basic knowledge of my family
