Same thing happened to us in SW Texas. Person calling from Mexico saying they are going to visit my husbands family and he needed picked up at airport. Then he called and said he couldn't board cause they fined him for not reporting cash he was carrying and needed to pay a fine. He wanted us to wire money and said he was a cousin. Beware on the below number calling. Never sent the money ofcourse. Don't offer any extra info, don't offer names. Ask personal questions only that person would know from you, if its a fake person they will hang up cause they can't answer your question cause they don't know, and they are not this person they claim to be!  

I recieved a call today my mom answered and said it was his nephew from mexico and he was visting and was in mexicali and my mom said which newphew and my mom through out a name and yeah he said it was him, but unfornunatley my mom gave out our information! My "primo" from Mexico called me yesterday, so nice to hear he is doing well.....did not get to the asking for money part...the number +5213334703936.....now seriously it is a scam, do not give them ANY information.

It just happened to my parents today.. They called saying that it was my cousin my parents believed it and lost 1400 they wired the money.. So sad how they take advantage of older ppl.. Be aware

I got a phone call from 311-924-5895. He said, "hi this is your cousin Miguel from Mexico". It turns out I do have a cousin in Mexico named Miguel. He said he was driving to USA and would let me know when he was closer. The next day, he called back and said he was in Tijuana and didn't know whether to take airplane or continue driving. He said he would call me and let me know. Next day he called me and told me this crazy story about him being in an accident and that a little girl was hurt in the hospital and he needed $850. By this time, I already knew that my cousin was in Mexico and that all this was a scam. I decided to play along. I told him that I would send him the $850 within a few hours. He wanted it by money gram and sent to the injured driver, Luis Enrique Sanchez Mejia. 2 hours later he called and called around 15 different times. I never picked up. The next day, he called from 5213315523041. He asked where his money was. I said, "I have a special surprise for you, instead of sending you the money, I sent you your first communion godfather, he should almost be there to help you." He then surprised me with information that he had not mentioned. He told me to take care of _______ and _______. I realized he knew more about me than I thought. I then asked him to give me the name of his father in law. I demanded an answer and repeated the question over an over. He then didn't know what to say and hung up. Never called back.

Got the same phone call. Someone saying they were family from mexico and were coming to visit. Didn't ask for money just phone number and address. They sounded very convincing. They were fishing for information about family and had some information already. I reported the call to the police dept. after I felt that there was something not quite right about the call. Spoke to my ex husband and he asked family about them coming to visit. they were not. He also became very concerned and found the information online about these scammers. I researched and found this site. Needless to say I'm not picking up the line for numbers I do not know anymore.

Got a call from this number 331-717-8087 telling me to guess which relative do I still remember living in Mexico.Since I already know that this is a scam I tell him I don't have relatives in Mexico and he hangs up.Do not fall for this and do not give out personal info.

Same scam today 8/29/13  had my mom guess a nephew's name and for sure it was him.

got a call from 331-525-1255 claiming to be a cousin from mexico insisting that we must guess what his name was, and when we gave him a name he said yes that's me, he said he was in his way from mexico and wanted to know if he could stay at our house, when we hung up we started contacting family members to see if it was true that the relative was in mexico and it was a lie because our relative was in the united states,next day when he called back he ask for money and said he got into a car accident and that a little girl got injured and he needed money, but we played a little with him by making him believe that we were going to send him the money by western union to Andrea Anaya Figueroa until we told him off and he hung up on us.Just beware!!!

We received a call today claiming to be a "relative", and he knew our name, and last name, and our city. It sounded suspicious so we didn't answer the next calls from him and called the police.

My aunt got a call today from a guy who said " GUESS WHO I AM TIA" so. My aunt said she didn't know and they said her last name but wanted my aunt to guess the name so my aunt hung up...

Hi, something similar happened to me and my wife today, but it was a guy that called saying he was coming over tomorrow and if he could stay with us. He knew my name though and i live near Omaha. Could you give me a little more information on what happened to you? It worries me that they will show up at my house since my address is in the phone book with the phone number they called us at.

My husband received a call today from a Spanish speaking man who claimed to be a cousin from Mexico. he said, " You don't recognize me, who do you remember from Mexico? Of course my husband named someone and that is who the man was. he said he was flying in from Mexico and then take a bus to visit us. He also wanted our cell phone number but he did not give it.

We have caller ID and seen that the call came from a land line from the OH State University
1-614-292-3202. We were able to contact relatives who gave us the number to the real cousin who lives in the States and he confirmed that he was not the caller.

We will be expecting another call soon from the fake cousin but will not answer the phone from this person.

Almost the same thing, no Disneyland, just that the cousin was coming to visit and that he was in Tijuana waiting to cross. A couple minutes later he called back saying he was in the so called accident like you had mentioned, saying the little girl went trough the windshield. He had checks that could ONLY be cashed in the US. He would pay us even MORE once he crossed. He asked for $1,200 then the supposed police officer said only $1,000. He then said he wanted $500 MORE for gas. Too many red flags. We didn't fall for it. The name they wanted us to send the money to was:

I got a called at home today saying my last name. He said hes last name was just like mine and that he was my cousin. My wife answered and gave them my cell. I knew already because my wife told me and ive heard of this pranks before. I answered in english representing my company and pretend i didnt know spanish. They hung up and called my wife again and threatened her they said they know we own a business and that they are coming for us. Dont give personal information to anyone. They want to gather information and u send money. They might even find out were u live and hold u hostace for ransom

Someone called from 331 205 8765 at 11:11 am on my cell phone. I didn't recognize the number so figured they'd leave a message. They didn't. So then see where in the US ''331'' area code is. It's not it's in MEXICO! Being that I have No friends family or nobody in Mexico. I found THIS site. Read the reviews and knew I'd leave my experience for the wise. DON'T be so quick to reply. To people claiming they're friends or family. When in doubt, check it out. If you see ''331'' on your phone. Just don't answer it. Oh yeah, most important. Tell ALL your friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers. WE ALL can put a stop to it. Tell them if you see ''331'' area code don't answer it. Unless you know for sure who it is in Mexico.

This just happened to me and my dad! Today January 31 2013 we received a call from a person claining to be our relative and needed money fast. Supposely he was in a car accident

ONCE I KNEW IT WAS A SCAM I JUMPED IN AND ASKED THEIR LOCATION, letting them know i had just made the deposit, AND THE LOCATION WAS ON A WALMART IN KANSAS SO I QUICKLY ASKED WHICH WALMART(knowing there are only 4 Walmart locations in kansas) I TOLD THIS PERSON I KNEW WHERE THIS PLACE WAS AT AND I HAD A COUSIN WHO LIVES 15mins AWAY FROM THAT WALMART LOCATED IN WHICHITA KANSAS SO I WOULD HAVE MY CUSIN TAKE THE CASH IN PERSON! Dats when they hung up and realized that i KNEW THEIR SMART SCAM!!!!

My wife got a call from Mexico around 10 30 pm ans it was a girl and she said hi aunt guess who it is is the oldest niece of the SILVAS and my wife said Hi Claudia and here is your uncle Hector talk to him, at this point she alreadry knew I got a niece named Caudia and my name was Hector, and she said I will be In Dallas tomorrow and I will call from there and tell you what time I will arrive in Omaha that way you can pick me up I said sure right my cel number that way if nobody is home you can reach me, and rightawy I called my niece in Mexico and sure enough she didn't call

My advice is to do the same thing I did and call the authotities I called the FEDERAL POLICE in mexico and filed a report this is there number you have to dia like this from USA

My grandma received a called today stating it was her son from mexico and that his wife was really sick at the hospital . Grandma stated they were lieing that it was him hang up and than call of my aunt she staing speaking to and asking about then kids and they hang up SO IT DEFINITLY A SCAM PPL BECAREFUL  and its scary how these ppl get the info

My mom received a call on Saturday from a person stating he was my dad's cousin.  He said he had flown in from VeraCruz to Tijuana and apparently he failed to report a large amount of money when he left VeraCruz so he now had to pay $2,000 in taxes.  He harassed my mom telling her he needed the funds and when he arrived at their home he would pay them the $2,000 plus and extra $2,000 for her troubles.    She ended giving him my number and continued to plead that he need the money.  I then informed him that I had to think about helping him but would need to call him back at the number he called from....Well that was the last we heard from this person.

On Thursday, 11-8-12 my mom got a call from an unknown number, claiming it was a cousin who was coming to visit us from Mexico. He asked if he was welcome to stay in our home for a few weeks. Also that he would come by plane or bus and would let us know. Friday 11-9-12 they called my dad that he was being held at an airport nearby because of some kind of seal/document and needed $450.My cousin is a BORN US citizen that was studying at a major university in Mexico. My dad was at the airport looking for him for 4 hours, being so good-willed and gullible, he asked for help at the airport-- never thought to verify with family in Mexico. It was the scariest moment when my mom's family and cousin confirmed that they never called and were safe at home.
