November 17, 2013 - a stranger claiming to be a family member said he was stopped by airport officials in tijuana, mexico carrying $ thousands in cash. He knew our last name and ask us to guess who he was. We thought it was, and this guy said yes he was my uncle _ _ _ _ . He told my dad to vouch for his story, his identity and give our home address as a guarantee so the officials could let him free to resume his flight; and when in Toronto he would give us X amount of $ (in the thousands). He told us to expect a call from a custom official in the other room. We got another call and a "custom official" asked my dad questions relating to him, our relation to him, origin of money e.t.c.. We obviously refused to vouch for this person and explained that these types of situations are not resolved via phone with family relatives, but rather from consulate officials from country to another. After the call this "custom official" accepted our explanation and hung up. The funny thing is after doing a reverse search, we found that the area code is from ILLINOIS, USA and having heard about the big Mexican population there, no wonder these people sounded Mexican.
/*Never "guess" peoples names (or have a seniors moment), and ask questions before waisting your time on these types of crank calls.
