Hi, i just got the same phone call. I could tell the person was mexican and i couldn't recognize his voice so I said i didn't who it was. he wouldn't give me his name and laughed saying he just said what other family do you have that does'nt live in Canada. I felt the guy was just trying to get information out of me so I said to him "oh Uncle Enrique, knowing that it wasn't my uncle. the man replied saying "yes of course! how are you" right after that i hung up the phone because i knew it was a scam.

Be Aware of this calls don't fall for it. ITS A FRAUD!!!

Morelia, we received the exact same phone call, unfortunately we did send the money, because the caller seemed to know about the life of the person he was impersonating: he told us he was going to cross the border and come to Canada with his wife and his kid.

He told us he had an accident and needed money because if he didn't reach an agreement with the man involved in the accident (whose 2 years old daughter had been injured), he would press charges against him.

It's only later when we talked with someone else in our family that we discovered we'd been victim to a fraud.

I found your reply while searching this same number on the web. It's the Marche 3rd right now, and you posted on Feb 12th. If they are always using the same number, perhaps there is a chance the Mexican authorities could trace the number and get a grip on this fraud.

We received a phone call this morning too from someone in spanish stating that they were our nephew in spanish.  They spoke really fast and their mouth was very close to the mouthpiece making it alittle difficult to completely understand.  I asked who it was and the caller said in Spanish. Aunt you don't know who this is? and I handed the phone to my husband who also said the same thing.  The caller knew our last name as well then my husband asked who it was exactly and the caller hung up.  Please be aware!!!  We have had these calls last week too on our cellular phones asking for money for family members in Mexico and said they were actually persons of the family.  We immediately called Mexico to make sure that there was nothing going on and it was a scam.
