I also applied for unemployment yesterday and got a call. It rang once, then stopped. I tried to call back, but it just says to check the number and try my call again.

Number called me tried to call back got an message saying this number is no longer in service.

I have been getting calls from this number for the past week now and everytime I answer they hang up and when I let it go to voicemail they do not leave a message.

Same thing happened to me today.....8/22//12...just applied for unemployment!!!  OMG what is going on?

I filed for AL unemployment on Sunday and received the first call from 335-105-2944 this morning. They hung up when the answering machine picked up.

This is from the Alabama Unemployment Career Center, calling to remind you of the appt you were given in the mail to go to your career center for employement opportunities.  It is basically a job fair you were invited to, because you are on unemployement.  It is a pre recorded message, so no one can call the number back.

I received 3 more calls today, 1/6, the day after my first initial call (from 334-105-2944). These calls were from 334-105-2967 (2 times) and 334-105-2946. I answered the last time (from the 2967 number) & it was an automated recording advising me or anyone in our house who is unemployed that the call was from "Alabama Career Services System" (or something to that affect) and we can visit the AL Joblink website at www.joblink.al.gov 24/7 to view jobs, create a resume, and apply to jobs.

As mentioned above, I am on my 2nd benefit year (having about 3 months left) of unemployment & I never got these calls until right after I just reapplied. I could see the state's interest in advising people of this (people on unemployment), however, when I file online, it clearly states this and requires you to visit their site and create a profile. I would assume filing by phone or in person directs you similarly. In any case, calling daily and several times a day is completely overkill. Hopefully the calls will register somehow that I picked up the phone & they reached me and hopefully they will stop calling. Otherwise, wouldn't it be considered harassment?

I usually do not answer unidentified numbers unless I know them and I figured anything from the State of Alabama would be identified as such. This CLEARLY needs to be changed as we screen ALL our calls & normally I would not answer such nor return such a call.

I was this close to reporting them to the Feds for repeated harassment and not leaving messages as I am clearly on the Do Not Call list. Even though this is not a telemarketing call, I would think they would still need to identify themselves in some way & abide by some kind of guidelines regarding the frequency of calls. If not, that needs to be changed ASAP. Wonder how much taxpayer money is paying for this.

In any case, seems odd in response to the poster above who reported it to the AL Unemployment office that they (Unemployment office) could not identify it. It has to be tied to unemployment somehow as that is how they get the majority of information & most of us, if not all of us here, are unemployed receiving such compensation. And if it is tied to the government (ie unemployment compensation, unemployment office giving out our phone numbers & that we are unemployed, us being directed to their website upon filing), they should be required to ID themselves via caller ID with more than just a phone number & leave messages if the answering machine picks up.

I have been on unemployment a year, but I just had to file for the new benefit year, which I did around 6 days ago. Then I filed my first week (under the new benefit year) on Sunday, 3 days ago. I didn't answer. I know no one in that area code who'd be calling me & I always screen all my calls despite applying for jobs. If they want me, they will leave a message. But it is weird the tie that it seems to have with everyone applying for unemployment. I'm in Huntsville. I don't even attempt to call these types of people back. Even bill collectors will leave messages, so it's either a scam or a telemarketer.

I have been on unemployment for 4 weeks now and got a call a from 334-105-2944 at 8:30 this morning.  I did not answer because of the "Name Not Found".  Now I know not to answer.  I wonder what the deal is?

same here, applied for uc only yesterday and this morning, call from this number but no one is on the line--strange, huh?

I just recieved a call from this number 334-105-2944.  Answer the phone and they hung up.  I appiled for Unemployement yesterday.

Ditto this number re day after applying for unemployment. Called Unemployment Fraud Line and it has nothing to do with the State Unemployment Office. Reported it to them and they said they will look into it.

I also began receiving calls from 334-105-2944 and 2953 after applying for unemployment. They don't leave a message and hang up when I answer. I hope it's not some kind of "slamming" scam. That's when you're long distance service is changed without your permission and you'll begin receiving crazy charges on your phone bill.  I really hope not because it's been my experience since moving to Alabama that there isn't much consumer protection here. I really can't afford to get stuck paying for something I didn't ask for. Thank God I didn't give them my cell phone number. It's also very frustrating because I've been applying for jobs so I don't want to miss any calls. I'm going to report this to the Better Business Bureau. Hopefully something can be done. It's also an intrusion I don't appreciate at all.

Receive calls every 30 minutes for 2 days now from 8am until 8:45pm. No message left and I do not wish to burn my phone minutes on unknown callers.  Last four #'s rotate 2944, 2946, 2967, 2947, 2943, 2942. I did apply for unemployment Friday.

Call from this number. They hung up. That is a south Alabama/Montgomery # and I applied for Unemployment yesterday. Anyone else do that? Only guess I have.

call severl times without messages then if answered they hang up

The number calls me from several other numbers as well with the 334 area code, then 105, then several other last four numbers, like 2946, 2944, and 2953. If you try to call the numbers, it says that it is a non working number.  I finally answered one time and there is no one on the other end of the phone, weird. Scam!

Hung up when I answered. Would not allow the call to be returned.
